Long time creeper, but had to join today to ask a question. Today was playing in our clubs Sunday money group. We played all 18 holes and was settling up after the last hole. The groups about 9 guys. Most I play with every week. A few I play with once a month or every other month. 

I shot well and was owe a small 3 digit amount from a few players. That's when the guy I don't play with often walks up and says he isn't paying because I had too many clubs in my bag. We walked to my bag and I counted my clubs and I didn't have too many. He then states look at the back your bag there is another club. Low and behold my 7 years daughters putter is in the umbrella hole as its been for the last year when she stated coming with me and wants to putt on the greens. All the other guys looked at him but he refuses to pay me out but pays everyone else. Whats your thoughts. All the other guys paid me out.

I would have paid you. I think it's a reasonable assumption that the extra putter was not in play. 

Having said that "Did you declare the extra putter out of play?" 

This person seems like a bit of a weenie and he is also setting a dangerous precedent. Let's say he wins next month. Then when it's your turn to pay up, you could refuse. Telling him "I timed you on hole 8 and you searched for your ball and found it at 3 minutes and 1 second. So, you should have taken stroke, plus distance and didn't." You could then show him your stopwatch feature on your phone where you timed it out to 3:01 and say "See." 

I actually would just let it go and assume the guy is a weenie. Because doing stuff like that takes the fun out of friendly bets. If he can't afford to pay up, he shouldn't bet. 

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs. 

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

Couple of added points. 

It was pink and maybe 18 long. 

I am 6 1

 

And he waited until the round was over to say something when he was in my 4 some in the other cart.

I say this in believing the guy should just pay you and he's a d**k for not. 

Do you guys play by the USGA rules strictly? If so, then the claim is valid. It sucks, but it is. Again, he is a d**k for being that nitpicky over it. If he wants to play the game of waiting for you to finish to have his ah-ha moment, again he's a d**k. Though, if the putter is non-conforming, you maybe able to claim that it is not a club? 

Just talk to your group and don't invite him back.

Did the 'club' conform to the Equipment Rules?

This was something that came to mind as well. Would it be, if it didn't conform then it could not be a 15th club?

I didn’t think of the non conforming aspect. 
As for the strict following of the rules up until now we play “by the rules” in a relaxed manner. We have never held another accountable for their actions. Until yesterday I can’t tell you of an instant that something like this happen or even a disagreement. The guys that play every week told me they really thought he was joking at first when he told me he wasn’t paying me. 
As of 30 minutes ago one of other members in the golf group text message who wasn’t even at the course yesterday removed him from the group. The group message has about 30 guys from the club that we just use to know who’s playing and what time. The text message doesn’t have any club employees it doesn’t have anything to do with scheduling tee times. 
A couple guys some who were there and some who were had a private conversation thought it was bs and don’t want the drama. They all said it was bs each one said didn’t care since most sundays my daughter is with us as well as other players kids.

Not a good presedent, I wouln't let him participate anymore until he pays you. Is a stupid argument from his side and not the rigth person to enjoy a friendly match for money in the future.
This should be supported by all the group, if not maybe you are in the wrong group.

After I reread my last post i realized I  wasn’t clear everyone agreed he isn’t welcome back to play with us. The group felt like his actions were bs and he won’t be back playing with our group.

Non conforming clubs still count towards the maximum number.  

But to the OP, the maximum penalty is a match adjustment of two holes in match play, or a maximum of four strokes (the general penalty applied to the first two holes) in stroke play.  Its entirely possible you would have come out ahead even if the penalties had been applied.

The equipment rules say a club is an implement designed for striking a golf ball, and consists of a clubhead and shaft, possibly  a grip.  If it doesn't fit that definition, it's something else, perhaps a training device.  But a 50 inch driver is still a club, non conforming.  A club with stickers on the face is non conforming, but counts as a club, and may be made conforming by removing the stickers.

.... Although technically I believe he referred to me as an "ass-clown". ... Which at the time seemed like a compliment. 🤷‍♂️

      Day 24 (4 Dec 25) - Spent about an hour working with the new 55° wedge in the backyard.  Kept all shots to under 20yds.  Big focus - not decelerating thru downswing and keeping speed up with abbreviated backswing.  Nothing like hitting a low flighted chip with plenty of check spin and then purpose to float a pitch of similar distance.

      Day 114 12-4 Put some work in on backswing, moving the hips correctly, then feeling over to lead side. Didn't hit any balls was just focused on keeping flowy and moving better. I'll probably do another session tonight and add in some foam balls.

      Didn't say anything about your understanding in my post.  Well, if you are not insisting on alignment with logic of the WHS, then no.  Try me/us. What do you want from us then?? You are not making sense. You come here and post in an open forum, question a system that is constructed with logic, without using any of your own and then give us a small window of your personal experience to support your narrative which at first sight does not makes sense.  I mean, if you are a point of swearing then I would suggest you cut your losses and humor a more gullible audience elsewhere. Good heavens.

      Yes, but you don't live in the UK, so you have no idea what we think about it here. It's a very different mindset here, to demonstrate the fact you should consider 9 out of 10 games we play here are Stableford, whereas you you almost solely play medal. Neither is right or wrong, it's just different  I'm trying to avoid swearing here. Once again, and for the 1000th time, I understand the system, I just don't agree with it. Is there anything wrong with that? PS, I do not have the time or patience to post my results, especially as they prove nothing  That's because 99% of the posters are Yanks
