Which courses have you played where a PGA, Champions, or LPGA event has been played?

Over the yrs I've been fortunate to play several courses where a PGA, Champions, or LPGA event was played at sometime in the past. Curious to see how many and where anyone else has played.  I've played at:

Torrey Pines South

Harbour Town in Hilton Head, SC

The Greenbriar in West Virginia

Las Colinas in Irving, TX

Kapalua

Champions Golf Club Houston, TX

Trump International Puerto Rico

Breckenridge, Pecan Valley, La Canterra, TPC San Antonio The Oaks all hosted the Texas Open at one point or another

I've played at TPC Deer Run.   It's a nice course, and I can see where the Pros could go low.

Many times, though it's almost never an actual goal.

Heck, I just played Erin Hills and Brown Deer Park in a few days at the end of 2025. 🙂

Firestone North (I think it was the world series of golf at the time, but it was held on the North course one year due to maintenance needed on the South Course.)
Firestone South (Bridgestone Inv)
TPC Sawgrass (The Players Championship)
Pine Needles (U.S. Women's Open)

There might be some other ones I am not aware of, but these are ones off the top of my head.

I am probably scratching off Whistling Straights and Erin Hills later this year 😁

How far back are we talking? Like I've played Inwood on Long Island and that held a US Open back in the day (nearly 100 years ago now). Courses that have held big events recently:

Shinnecock Hills

Merion

Bethpage Black

Winged Foot West

Kiawah Island Ocean

TPC Sawgrass

Walton Heath Old

Royal St Georges

Royal Liverpool

The Old Course

Turnberry

Muirfield

Kingsbarns

Royal Porthcawl

Phoenix Country Club

A few others that have held European Tour events relatively recently, and then these ones that held big events a long time ago:

Royal Cinque Ports

Prestwick

Princes

Inwood

Just the Plantation course at Kapalua. Not like I didn't know it, but it was a visceral reminder of how ridiculously good the tour pros are. That course is f***ing *hard* playing it from ~6500 yards. From the tips!? Then if there's wind?!

In March of 1978 I got to play Pebble Beach GC. Played it from the back tees, since I knew I'd probably never play it again. Oops, shot 102.

Three weeks later, I played Torrey Pines - South, again from the back tees (maybe 6,700 yds in those days). Shot an 87, and missed a birdie putt on the lakeside No. 18 green.

In 2021, I played TPC Deere Run in the Quad Cities area. This is site of the John Deere Classic. It was early October and the course was undergoing renovation, so I got to play the front nine twice for $110, lunch included. The course was great and the driving range was unbelievable. Hint: you need to pay attention to the wind drafts before you try to challenge the cross bunkers! BTW, Deere Run is a public course.

Norwood Hills Country Club is site of the Champions tour event, the Ascension Charity Classic, now the Stifel Charity Classic. This classic layout has 36 holes. This summer I hope to play the West course where the Champions event is held; Missouri Golf Association is sponsoring an amateur event there.  I have played the shorter East course three times - it's quirky but quite fun.

Also: Circa 2000 I played il Picciolo, a course at the base of Mount Etna in Sicily. The volcano was spewing ash that week. The course frequently hosts European pro events. Lots of elevation change and gently rippling fairways. Left a 7i shot 10 yards short of green on one par 5. Turns out the hole had a 12-foot high alpine flagstick, and I was not as close to the green as I thought I was (bad perspective).

Focus, connect and follow through!

oops, forgot Pebble Beach and Spyglass.  And two more of the original Open rota, Prestwick and Musselburgh (with hickory shafted rentals).  And Muirfield.  And maybe a few more, I'll check my list when I get home.

Lets see, Kapalua, and any other course played on Maui, Hualalai, Koolina and the course where the LPGA now plays the Lotte, Poipu, St Andrews, and Ballyliffen. I think that's it, never chased it but sure do enjoy playing Kapalua, Koolina and Hualalai.

Disney's Lake Buena Vista Golf Course. Which I believe used to host a LPGA tournament.
Fantastic course, compared to what I typically play.

So fantastic I carded a 115!
in my defense it was 90 degrees by 9 am in late July. Not to mention whatever grass they had around the green was absolutely foreign to me, I could not get my wedge through it. The entire grass came up like it was a piece of shag carpet.
Suffice to say my short game was a mess.

but good times!

    • Range again today. A few freezers and a few smoothies. If I add a little speed I swing further arms go deeper and lower and more across again. Really like where this freezer got to on backswing:   This is a smoothie (ish). Clubhead tracks up the hands nicely but the things go a bit wrong: At normal speed: Lastly one shortish pitch shot. Pitching some days I come out and can drop it on the flag. Other days it’s going sideways. Like missing right or left by 10 yards from 50 yards and nothing in between. I suspect it’s from the hands coming out and the cut across. If I release it on that line it’s going left. If I hold it off it’s going right and then it’s timing. When it’s off it’s off. Feels like if I can get that under control it will tighten up a lot.

    • Nice Berger choke job to the Anchor Man who putted well.
    • The most important thing in my mind was Akshay responding all day Sunday. He was 2 over and five back at the turn and just get grinding. bridies galore and then on the fifth he bogeyed and on the sixth he played it far enough right that if he missed a little left it would be right by the hole. It was and he made the eagle. Stayed in it, kept playing great and kept getting pars. He very much deserved the win.
