I thought it may be interesting to see the differences between location and membership cost.

What private clubs are you talking about here because I noticed you were from Illinois, same here.

Cincinnati: Public membership: 1000 dollars. Have to pay for cart and range.

Private: Can very greatly. There is a course that has a 50 K initition and about 600 month.

Player club, not country club. Just golf. 300 month 3000 initionation

One I am interested in. CC for the family. about 265 a month family. Nice greens, ok course, well maintained.

In the Milwaukee area, courses that offer a season pass are typically in the $2,000 - $3,000 dollar range

For a private club low end is $8,000 to $15,000 initiation with $500-$650 monthly fees when you add in the food and beverage costs.

So many good daily fee courses here that membership does not seem to be worth while.

For me full country club membership is $250/month, $18 cart fee per person.

With this we have something like 12 other clubs we can get into at a reasonable rate.

We also get huge discounts on everything in the pro shop.

Its the $5 beers and food bill that kills me.

Most of the bentgrass courses down here are running $1,500 to $3,500 for initiation and $175-$300 per month for family memberships.

Many of them are now charging extra for the range use...separate membership.....and pool....separate membership as well. Not too bad with dining tie-in's as most just have elaborate grills / bars.

I've been a member of Jones Creek when I first moved down here and then Mount Vintage for a short while....it became too much to pay for seldom rounds of golf when other hobbies were wanted.

The deal I have now with Gordon Lakes is simply the best compromise imaginable. I love the course layout, 27 hole rotation, course quality, people that work there, people that play there, club tourneys, pace of play, walkability, etc. The price is very affordable for family membership and the practice facilities are super. I can't see leaving here and paying....minimum....twice to "sky's the limit" difference for somewhere else.

Walkability is a big factor. Many of the residential courses in the area, Cedar Creek, Mount Vintage, Jones Creek, Bartram Trail, etc. murder to walk due to the long distances from greens to the next tees as well as the elevation changes. Gordon Lakes is just about perfect in that regard.....reminds me of the National....leave the green and step a few steps to the next tee.

We have bermuda greens but they are generally maintained very well. The heat will severely damage many of the bentgrass courses down here....excepting The River (unlimited water supply)....and our bermuda greens at "The Fort" will still be rolling true and fairly quick.....9-12 on the Stimp and have no bare spots.

I paid $6000 initiation. Dues are around $4000 per year and include locker, range balls, and club storage. Carts are $15 per round or something like $750 per year. This is for a individual, and this is only a golf club, no pool, but a nice clubhouse.

My previous club was $5,000 initiation and $4400 per year, carts were also around $15 per round.

Both are nice. These are on the cheaper end of the private clubs around here. Although with the economy there may be some deals out there. I'm paid up for the year so it doesnt matter now.

$1500 initiation @ Inverness Country Club in Dexter, MI.
$750 year for unlimited golf and use of all facilities (however it's primarily a 'golf only' facility). The best deal in golf IMO.

A little about the course:
  • 9-hole facility that plays to about 3200 yds
  • 71.9 course rating / 129 slope
  • Small, fast greens with moderate undulation
  • One of the toughest uphill 440 yd holes that I have ever played

Definitely a shot-makers course which has helped me tune in my short game.

Up until a few years ago there was a 5+ year waiting list before they would even consider your application.

There are only 270 members and I have never had a problem playing 18 in 3 hours…walking! Plus, there are a TON of great golfers and money games are always happening.

Im a member at 2 courses. The private CC is free to me :) Its a benefit from my wifes company. Think it is 3k to 4k initiation and $350 a month. The other is the local muni and its $450 a year. Not a bad set up.

Man I gotta move, you guys don't know how good you have it. Around here $50,000-$100,000 initiation then $600-$1,000 a month for the true private courses, if you can even get in, caddies and carts extra. If I want to drive 45-90 minutes there are some that you can get in for a small to no initiation and about $6,000-$8,000 a year, some are all inclusive, some charge for carts.

City of Dayton, OH courses - $850 for unlimited play. Cart rental is $14 per round regardless of membership status. Most muni courses are similar. Private courses here vary greatly.

Because I'm under 23 I payed about 150 of your US dollars for unlimited golf at a semi-private course (not municipally run but they allow greens fee players), no monthly fees on top of that. Full adult membership runs at a little under $400 for the year. Plus being a member at one course gets you discounts at every other course in the country.

Wow, I must be the poorest guy on this site. I could never pay these prices to play golf. I feel lucky to play as much golf as I want, at a nice course for 600 bucks a year.

My course is semi-private (A membership club that is open to the public but not cheap). $205/month for unlimited golf, includes carts, with no spending minimum, no initiation fee, 27 Holes, driving range, practice facilities, (3) pools, tennis courts, workout facility.

It's a great layout and a real bargain. The course plays fast too. Last Monday my buddy and I walked on and got a tee time right away. The round only took 3:30 and it was a nice spring day. It's mostly a golf club and pretty much everyone is there primarily to play golf.

They also are part of a management company with 38 courses that members have access to. There is a sister course across town I am going to play next week.
