In the San Francisco Bay area we have relatively mild winters so I usually play 3 out of 4 weeks.

I play year round here. Only on days where the wind is not blowing 60 mph. Only down fall is there are no cups on the green but they do leave a small stick out for aiming purposes.

I plan on setting up a little "heated" driving range in one of our empty garages for that time and also want spent a couple of weeks abroad in warmer climate.

My pro lives just around the corner (like 5 mins from my place) so i guess i will have a lot of time finegrooving my swing with him this winter getting him on a discount basis, since he wont be very busy during winter...

Dont plan to play too much on the course though unless its a warm dry winter.

If the greens are open I'll play. If we are on temps then it's driving range.

In Ohio, as long as it is above 32 degrees, and there is no snow on the ground, we play on a course (lots to choose from even in the winter).

If there IS snow on the ground, then we just go to the range, and hit balls off a mat (from the heated covered stalls) out into the snow.

Black Sabbath's song "Snow Blind" always comes to mind that time of year...

I play year round here in Portland, OR, but last year it was so wet in December/January you couldn't hit an iron, so I took them out of the bag and added more fws and hit a lot of partial shots. I actually scored really well that way.

I live in NJ, so playing in the Winter is no easy task. Last year I hit golf balls/played once or twice only. It REALLY hurt me when Spring rolled around. I couldn't find my feel, touch, or my swing. For the entire H.S. golf season, my scores were extremely high. It was quite depressing actually. I considered giving up the game I was playing so bad. I'm going to make sure that doesn't happen this late fall/winter. I will play 2-3 times per week. If that means I have to just go to the driving range in 25 degree weather, I will. I also found a 'heated, indoor' range...It's not great, but it's better than not hitting any golf balls during the winter!

I really don't play much in the winter since I live in Connecticut, but I go to the range when I can because they have heat radiators. Also, this year I'm thinking about setting up a mat and net in my garage so that I can practice throughout the off season.

While there aren't as many days suitable for golf, especially at the course, I certainly play in winter.

I hate hot weather, and I'd much rather play at 40 degrees than 90+, with high humidity. As far as the range, you can comfortably hit balls with the temp well below freezing.

Just out of curiosity (since we are of close proximity to one another) - ever consider thermals? They are awesome for sports in the winter. Sometimes I even sweat!

Yep I still play or practice everyday. Two years ago it snowed here and we couldn't play for almost 2 weeks.

Here in Monterey CA we don't really have what most people consider "seasons" It's pretty much 65-80 year round with maybe 10-14 days of rain mixed in at various times. I get to play golf year round and never have to winterize my motorcycle

    • Day 33 (13 Dec 25) - Worked on weight shift and resetting the left heel during downswing (after listening to a discussion on Golf School this morning on PGA Tour Radio).  It centered on how Jack Nicklaus lifted his lead heel and how long driver champs do as well.  Taking cues from that discussion, worked an exaggerated feel of the left heel working doing some swing drill in the backyard using the 7i.  Wrapped up the session by hitting a few low bump and run shots in the backyard - keeping the process slow and exaggerated.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
