I also believe it's true that the average golfer hits his driver 220 yards or less, however because of that I do not automatically assumer everyone here is fibbing. The reason being I do not think that sandtrap members are average golfers. Average golfers, in the US, anyway are weekends warriors with offbrand clubs that are a decade old....the average golfer does not break 100. I think sandtrap members play on weekly basis if not more, and take the game a lot more serious, serious enough to join an internet forum dedicated to it. I would argue that the average sandtrap member is better than the average golfer.

I agree with this statement but still believe there is a lot of exaggeration going on. Many people go with their best distances instead of averages and are more likely to round up than round down.

I know I have alot to change in my bag currently. To this day I have never used a any woods/hybrids. ( Been playing since my first set that my cousin gave me when i was 7 ) If I couldn't hit a shot in length I would just lay up. My dad always told me that the extra stroke would improve my short game. I am now 23 and I currenty hit ping g2's 3-PW, Yea I know old school. I am thinking about moving to mizuno mx200 4-PW and switching to a hybrid. Either way I have always had the ability to hit long shots.

7I: 165-175
8I: 155-165
9I: 145-155
PW: 120- 145
I do want to mention that when I ordered these irons I got graphite shafts which may be why I achieve a longer range.
52: 110-130 ( Depending on the shot I prefer a less than full swing with this club so i will usually use my pw almost down to 120 and then switch.)
56: XX-110 (plus anything around the green, the angle is perfect for my swing)
60: up to 80- For me this is only a club I will use if I need more loft. Otherwise I feel my 56 gets more control for precise pin shots.

If anyone has comments on the mx200's or any other forged Iron to consider I would really love some help. I have been testing so many clubs in the last week and so far those have felt the best. I am just a little upset no one has a lefty cobra s2 forged to try out.

This is basically for your amusement. These are my estimated distances for my average shots. (You don't need to actually measure when you suck this badly)

You probably all think I have a Grandma type swing speed but I don't. I recently measured my driver swing speed at 105 on a simulator. I just have terrible technique. I tend to hit really high and 30-40 yards right.

Seems like an honest response, rather than another Internet player who somehow exceeds the PGA Tour average distances.

I've yet to measure my averages consistently / accurately, but estimating: 3W - 230 off the tee (not even in double-digits from the fairway!) 5W - 205 3i - 185 4i - 175 5i - 165 6i - 155 7i - 145 8i - 135 9i - 125 No idea about the wedges yet, since I don't often use them for full shots.

Very interesting thread. Take a look through the thread, find some folks with similiar Driver and 8 iron lengths, and compare your numbers. I would suggest it is an unscientific, but maybe useful, point of reference. For example, if you hit your 8 iron 150 and your driver 250 or less, way outside the average on this thread, then you might be better suited for a new driver. On the other hand if you hit your driver 290 and hit your 8 iron 135 something is wrong. Gross generalizations of course and probably based upon inflated ego driven numbers,,, but still a good thought process.

12 handicaps 310+, that is almost impossible because to hit such long distances you have to have a good launch monitor stats (launch angel, low spin rate, ect.) an to get good launch moniter stats you must have a great swing.

Incorrect, to have good launch monitor stats you have to have correctly fit equipment. I do not not have a great swing, I have a driver that was fit to my swing to maximize my launch conditions. I AVG. 290 off the tee. If I really go at it I can get some well into the 310-315 range, and have been doing so since I was a 12 handicap.

    • Day 314 - Putting some things together. Better grip/setup, fuller backswing, better finishing position. Filmed some swings, happy with the progress.
    • Day 130: did a stack session.
    • Day 206 (24 Nov 24)  - An easy session with the 54deg wedge and hard foam balls / one simple goal - distance control thru backswing length while not decelerating.  Had a playing partner comment they noticed me decelerating on a couple short wedge shots in last round.  Hit from distances from close to 40yds down to 20.
    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
    • Day 55 - 2024-11-24 Did five levels of Operation 36 on GSPro (different courses). 🙂 Was -4 from 200 yards (32) intentionally laying up on each hole (i.e. not hitting a 5I or something). Shot… 22, 24, 26 from 25, 50, and 100 yards. I forget my 150-yard score, but obviously it was < 36. Putting was odd… (and I did it with the wedge or a 7I or whatever was in my hand).
