Lol, yeah edits can get funky. Honestly I stumbled into it just because the irons I bought were used and had no GW. I already had a 52-56-60-62 wedge set so it was order the matching GW or get creative. In the end I blew it all up, ditched the 62 and 3-6 in favor of 4-6 hybrid irons and went with the custom 48*. I didn't realize how handy it would be to have a 48 with a shelf grind for longer bunker shots and open face pitches near the green.

Sorry for the derail. I'm not even going to bother posting distances. I live in CO and the rest of world, most of it anyway would doubt how far balls fly here. The long iron distances would make the imaginary 300 yard internet length seem anemic.

Dave :-)

Same for me with the following differences. My driver is about 235 to 245, and when I can hit my 4 and 5 irons they go the same. I also use a 4h and do not have a 56. The million dollar question is, do you think these distances will allow you to get to the low single digits?

These seem to be very realistic with what I see on the course if being in the fairway throughout a round of golf is a goal.

I do drop off about 15 yards when getting to my 5 iron, it's always been a 150 yard shot and I could always count on it.

My 8 only runs out to 120 and throughout my higher loft clubs ( 9 through my 3 wedges ) my yardage is 20 yards short of these.

It's nice to see other golfers reporting what seems by most golf club pros and teaching professionals, the actual averages weekend golfers hit.

My hat is still off to those of you that crank the driver out there 270 to 300 yards on average. Those must be and feel like amazing shots when you hit those.

I find that if I swing well within myself to control trajectory and accuracy it is not a "full swing".  Do you usually smooth  the next club down?

My drives are usually carry 250-265, and then depending on conditions seem to roll out between 15-30 yards . Driver is a 8.5* with a custom stiff, low kick shaft. Swing speed consistently around 112mph. Most people that I play with who claim to be 300+ have a hard time keeping up with me on the tee box. Now I don't claim to be a long ball guy but....I track my stats very closely with gps and keep the numbers. Avg distance is not eye balling a drive you catch absolutely pure and guesstimating it at 300yards and calling it your avg. A few rounds ago hit a drive on a 402yrd par 4, that just so happen to nail the 150 marker on the fly, launching it towards the green and ending up 75yrds from the pin. Does that mean my avg driver distance is now 270-327? This thread should have left out the driver distances. Testosterone is smudging the numbers.

Clubs made all the difference in the world to me.  I upgraded from a set of cheap irons to TaylorMade Burner Plus 4 - Gap, and I'm hitting every iron shot 15 - 20 yards further.  I've also seen a couple of people comment on here that the lofts are a little more generous on these particular irons, which would make sense.  In all reality, my 5i is probably equal to someone else's 4i.  Nonetheless, I still play with guys that are a club ahead of me.  I pull a 5i, they pull a 6i.  But these are big, consistent hitters (with low handicaps).  I try not to compete on distance because I don't consider myself a long ball hitter, but it does give me motivation to keep working on my stroke and accuracy.  Seeing as how I was shanking half of my iron shots about 50 yards to the right last week, I need to work on consistency, not distance.

Couldn't agree more. Who cares if you can drive 300 yards if you can't even make a par with that 300 yard drive.

Yes, I believe that these numbers will allow anyone with great control over the golf ball and a good to great short game to reach single digits.  Although I'm pretty sure that you could not be able to get below a 5 or 6, just my opinion.

All of the above are full swings; I would definitely trade some distance for a better short game. There is nothing like bombing a drive 100 yards past your buddy, only to 3-jack the putt and lose the hole. Unfortunately, I'm pretty familiar with that feeling!

    • Day 206 (24 Nov 24)  - An easy session with the 54deg wedge and hard foam balls / one simple goal - distance control thru backswing length while not decelerating.  Had a playing partner comment they noticed me decelerating on a couple short wedge shots in last round.  Hit from distances from close to 40yds down to 20.
    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
    • Day 55 - 2024-11-24 Did five levels of Operation 36 on GSPro (different courses). 🙂 Was -4 from 200 yards (32) intentionally laying up on each hole (i.e. not hitting a 5I or something). Shot… 22, 24, 26 from 25, 50, and 100 yards. I forget my 150-yard score, but obviously it was < 36. Putting was odd… (and I did it with the wedge or a 7I or whatever was in my hand).
