As far as i understand it, he could receive the prize money if he gives up his amateur status, but he prefers to stay amateur to play the Masters, which he probably wouldnt have the chance if he turns pro immediately.

He wants to play in the Masters.
Obviously one win in Europe wont give him enough WGR points to get him into the top 50, he won't get this money, but he will get the other money when he continues to win after April.

I saw Danny Lee play in the US Amateur. He was really good, but he seemed very aggressive in his game. He should be good eventually since he's only 18.

Yep, would have been nice to watch later tonight after the kids go to bed. No sense in having a DVR if you can read who wins in the TITLE block.

It would be nice if a mod or admin could change to title so others don't find out before they want to.

In the tent he was sitting with his father and a representative from IMG. By not taking the prize money he probably guarantees himself a larger payday right after the Masters, when he will secure large equipment and clothing deals.

Taking the money now would have a significant opportunity cost.

What???? You go to a golf forum website expecting not to stumble across a tour result somewhere? What are the chances, particularly when you look at what this guy has achieved. Looks like a definite case of "golfwebforumitis", (an addiction to golf forums). Isnt this like watching the news and not expecting to hear the result in the sports?? I think we know who has the problem here!!

Whoa there fella….there is a difference in "stumbling across" and a blatant "XXX wins" in the title block. I intentionally stayed away from the "Tour Talk" portion of the forum but the main pages last post preview showed "Danny Lee wins Johnnie Walker classic". The SPOILER feature is there for a reason, is it too much to ask and is it really that difficult to use? "golfwebfourmitis?"….brilliant. And yes we do know who has the problem here.

It appears that he is the "real deal". He is the youngest player to ever win a European Tour tourney.

It's not too hard, if you want to watch a tournament later in the day, to avoid spoilers. Don't watch Sports Central, and for sure

don't visit golf forums . I avoid the news during the day and am sure to watch the tourmanets in the order they were broadcast (i.e., dont watch the PGA event braodcast after the European event is finished). Otherwise, you will get too much information too early. As for Danny Lee, he is the first "young gun" to have serious Tiger-like potential. He has amazing skills and composure on the course are WAY beyond his years. SubPar

Danny Lee is the real deal.

I watched him win the U.S. Amateur to become the youngest ever winner of the event (breaking Tiger's record by a couple months), and now this victory? He showed incredible composure down the stretch.

The kid is something like 6'1", 145 lbs. He has skinny arms, but can create an incredible amount of torque with his swing. He's like a human rubber band. I wonder how many majors this kid eventually wins. I love his entire game. Go Danny!

I think Lee and McIlroy really showed themselves to be great golfers this year. Maybe one of them will challenge Tiger one day, but they still have a lot of experience left to gain.
