Which tour pro's swing?

I really want to focus on improving my overall swing and thought it might be a good idea to almost "mimic" (for lack of a better term) a tour Pros swing. Just wondering, which tour Pro you guys would recommend that has a nice smooth tempo and a pretty orthodox swing to analyze and practice their technique? Thanks.

You should pick out a pro that closely matches your body type and mimic that swing. If you're 5'7", choosing to mimic Ernie Els for example probably isn't the best idea.

Good point. I'll give you guys a little more info about myself. I'm 24 y/o 6'2" 200lbs with an athletic build. I have a fairly aggressive swing but it has a pretty decent tempo (it's not like I'm swinging for the fences). My handicap isn't a fair representation to my abilit though. In highschool I averaged about 7 over per 18 holes but haven't golfed much the past few years and that is why my handicap is about 15 now. I like the way Els swings but he makes it look a little too effortless lol. I'll have to watch some more tour pros to figure which ones have similar builds and swings.

Don't try to model your swing after someone.

If you hit the ball solid and have a consistent shot shape then you have a good swing.

LongballGer has a good point. I think the two exceptions where its OK to imitate a pros swing would be their setup(depending on build like mentioned above) and tempo.

I like how Tiger sets up to his driver and irons so the past couple months ive been using that upright posture and it hasn't done me any wrong. If anything my driver accuracy has gotten better.

I agree. Just put the club in the right positions. Furyk's swing is goofy, but when you break down his swing, his important positions are impeccable.

i try to emulate Vijay. hes all tempo and feel and thats how i want my game to be.

I think you should take a look at the article in Golf Digest (the Masters Issue) where they discuss ground up swings (Lorena Ochoa, Jack Nicklaus) vs. center down swings (Anthony Kim, Michelle Wie)

Personally I think Anthony Kim has a great swing to mimic. It looks really clean and simple with a shortened back swing and the fewest moving parts; i'm extremely impressed with how strong, stable, and centered his swing is as well.

I don't think you should "mimic" anyone's swing if you can help it...but if I had to pick I would go with Vijay or Geoff Ogilve(sp?) Both of those guys have really good tempo and are very smooth. Fred Couples would be another good one.

I guess the word "mimic" is throwing a lot of people off. What I meant was I want to take components from a tour pro's swing (setup position, backswing - clubhead position, how they initiated the downswing, hand position throught swing, etc.). I don't want to completely copy a swing but want to take components from it and adopt those into my swing. I guess the better question would be, are there any sites that breakdown each aspect of the swing and illustrate where you should be at during any certain point in the swing?

I think Fred Couples easy flow is a good one to mimic. Also, I think Boo Weekly has a very simple swing that would be good to mimic.
