I was certainly prepared for a “left field” selection, but this has really shocked me.
It will either be the first step in Scott getting his confidence back or the beginning of a very sad end for him.

This is why I was hoping that Sim wouldn’t get picked, as a poor Presidents Cup could have knocked the wind out of his sails.

If Scott does well, people will claim that Norman is a genius, if he doesn’t it will be seen as the most bizarre selection ever.

I mean, seriously, is there a player in the top 100 with worse form?

I really like Scott, but this is very odd stuff.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Does Scott even want to play? hahaha.. But yeah, it was a terrible pick. So was that japanese kid, but i can understand why he was picked. Norman's starting off with a big ole wad of PHAIL.

We talked about it in the podcast (which will be up tomorrow). Head scratcher to be sure.

I agree. I didn't see this one coming. Has he done anything this year? He needs something to boost his confidence but this could really send him downhill with a bad performance. I actually hope he does well as I have always liked watching him play.

I love it. Adam Scott is my hero. Our favorite drinking game through college revolved around the Tiger Woods games for the playstation and for 4 years of my life I was Adam Scott. At least once a weekend. Compounded by the fact that my roomate was Jim Furyk every time, and now they can play against each other for real makes me thirsty already.

Call me gay if you must, but I can honestly say that Adam Scott was responsible for some of the best nights I had in college.

Plus, I want the US to win...

Normans friendship with Scott has got in the way of good judgement. All the better for the US team. Norman will take some serious flak if this doesn't work out for him.

Even those who generally support Norman will find plenty to complain about with him picking Adam Scott. At the same time, he's the Captain and they are his picks.

Thought he could have chosen more wisely, but he's being loyal to a friend and hoping to motivate him, good enough reasons.

Anyway, who will even watch or care? I schedule activities around the Majors, love Ryder Cup, watch golf endlessly, BUT the President's Cup has never captured my interest. If it's pouring down rain and I can't golf, I may watch.

I was hoping for a steady, tested pick like Jeev Milka Singh. The Scott pick puts a lot of pressure on both Scott and Norman. Not sure I understand why Norman would magnify the tension Scott must be having right now. Were I Scott, I might decline until the wheels get back under my game.

Exactly.

In fact, this may even help Scott, knowing few will see him.

I think you nailed it with that comment. Adam is Greg's Australian protege' and Ishikawa will bring tons of Japanese viewers and attention they otherwise would not have. So Adam Scott was a personal choice and Ishikawa was a monetary choice.

BUT, I LOVE Adam Scott, but I would have had to see more out of him to make him a pick. Just my opinion.....

I agree 100%. He might get lucky and Scott has a good week. But certainly not a sound decision to pick him.

Ha! You guys crack me up, talking about Adam Scott's "confidence" and how a poor performance in the President's Cup might cause a downwards spiral.

Maybe if he would take a few moments, stop relentlessly pounding Ana Ivanovic, and work on his game...

Might help Ivanovic as well - the Queen of the Early Exit from Major Tennis Tournaments...

I, too, was happy with the selection of Adam Scott, for just this reason.

I didn't think it was as bizarre a choice as most golf sites are insisting. Current form is often overstated as opposed to base ability, i.e how good are you, not how good are you playing?

There was one sportsbook in Las Vegas that didn't understand that. The guy who made their golf head-to-head matchups invariably put up the hot middle of the road PGA player against a top player who was in bad form. The top player won time after time, to the point it was a joke. Finally they lost so much on the matchups they dropped them and offered win betting only.

Frank Nobilo said today on GC it was a coin flip between Scott and Sabbatini, and implied that Sabbatini would not have been a good team player. Sounded a little defensive to me, but if that's the choice, I could see Norman picking a friend.

Yup....Norman is certainly throwing him a bone. Maybe the team aspect and team pressure will spark him into playing to his potential. The guy can do it when he's on.....question always is, when will it happen?

Anyone can be sparked into playing to their potential by being picked on the team, but why would he take the risk when he can choose among many others which have been playing well lately?
