I have just purchased Callaway x-forged irons from RBG and now that I look around the price almost seems a little too good to be true. Does anyone here know how they are 50% cheaper than other Online stores and have legitimate clubs?

I've been hearing some stuff about counterfeit clubs coming out of there.

Only from people who are telliing lies. RBG is obviously one of the most reputable golf stores there is.

Obviously? Why, because their rep posts at The Sand Trap?

You don't think that over 366,000 positives on ebay means anything?

You've just posted that they have "366,000 positives on ebay" (where coincidentally negatives are no longer allowed), so I have more information that I did before your first post. This isn't ebay - obviously - so thanks.

Actually just left feedback right now for a different seller, and negative is allowed. (My understanding is that a buyer can leave neg. feedback for a seller but a seller can't leave neg. feedback for a buyer) In this case, all that would matter is the feedback they received as a seller which is what that 366,000 number is.

I've had a few transactions with RBG and for the most part have been very satisfied. I've bought two different clubs from them and they were in new condition, just as promised and were cheap. Also bought shoes from them, also cheap and new (although I ended up not liking them, not RBGs fault). My one bad experience was with balls... bought something that was labeled as "Mint" and they weren't. I wouldn't buy balls from them again, but anything else I would. They do seem to have a good reputation on both this forum and on eBay... and while it may not be obvious to everybody, they are a good seller, both through eBay and their own site.

It strikes me as virtually "obvious" that the OP's concern (negative feedback flitered and the balls are not as "mint" as advertized) may be valid.

Well no site is 100% perfect. Its their customer service when something goes wrong is what you need to look at.

No, not really. Sure, that's great that they make good on problems they create, but it's better if a consumer has an idea *ahead* of time if they are going to experience a problem.

Case in point: used ball grading issues. This is what I posted about in the first place. They chose not to publish my review because they filter negative reviews. Now another poster also experienced the same. If their customer service will take back the old balls, refund money, send replacement balls, etc., good. But then again, they're SUPPOSED to! Reminds me of a Chris Rock line: http://splicd.com/Ui6-Wc0PDc4/130/150 Anyway, who wants to go through all that? Wouldn't it be better to know that the ball grading issue is an iffy proposition from RBG (from reading reviews) and just avoid the purchase? I don't want to be a shipping and receiving clerk, I want to hit golf balls. The problem with filtering negative reviews is that they don't advertise that is what they are doing. They says "Here are the customer reviews!" And, since there are no negative ones, you buy with confidence. What a surprise, then, to find out you got some crap balls and that someone before you did also and his review (that would have helped you) wasn't posted. I'll add another thing - posted bad reviews give a company a chance to fix whatever is wrong and then write about that fix, as "The Caveman" suggested he was contemplating (read his post above). That's customer service with transparancy, something that gives me as a consumer more confidence. As it is now, you can read the good reviews, but you have no idea if there are bad reviews and how many there might be. That's bad business and I hope RBG changes their policy.

Like I said before, my one bad experience with them was with used balls. Considering that I've heard others, including the OP with the same complaint, I'd say that they have an issue here.

However, they don't filter reviews. I followed the link that was in the OP and the one review that was there wasn't exactly glowing. It said that only 50% of the balls were in the condition promised. In addition to that, when I did receive my balls in poor condition, I did post a review on the site ( http://www.rockbottomgolf.com/callaw...ree-dozen.html ... click "Item Reviews") and it got put up.

I'm not sure what people are talking about not being able to see bad reviews, because I can see them just fine... bottom line is that RBG is a great site with the exception of used balls.

Well it looks like they changed their policy, then. Earlier in this thread RBG posted themselves and admitted to not posting bad reviews as a matter of policy - that's what the talk was about.

I've had nothing but good luck from RBG. I think they are a very competitive golf retailer who brings us equipment at a lower cost than many other golf merchants.

"Contact my Customer Service Team", says Scratch.

Just exactly how do you do that when you don't have a customer service phone number and it is difficult to even find an email address on your web site, for service?  When you select "contact us" you are taken to a FAQ/Search page and the "Ask a Question Tab" referred to there doesn't exist, at least I couldn't find it.

I had a problem with a split shipment, sent an email to the scratch address and never received a reply.  Sent a second and it bounced.

At RBG price point there are good alternatives that actually have prompt customer service options.

As with any company that is selling a product that can't easily be contacted for service (not particularly picking on RBG, I have had only good service over the years).... I always call the sales line. Bingo! usually a pickup pretty quick. THEN ask for the service department. It works especially good with Cable and phone companies.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
