It helped my back problems.  My back used to hurt bad all summer because of my old swing, but since i added most of the S and T pieces my back feels great.

I would give it a go.

I watched the video and it helped me a tad bit, but i think it destroyed my prior swing style. Sadly now everytime i blast an iron, i come down very steep and dig a two foot whole in front of where the ball was. I still get a solid shot, but feel like im loosing distance and enery expenditure?

Thanks for the input...after going back in the thread and reading a bit more about it, I think I'm going to give S&T; a try. I have about six weeks until my knee surgery (filling a joint divot that previous microfracture surgery didn't fix), so I should be able to have a good idea whether or not it's for me.

Man, I wish I could get this move right. I'm convinced that's the part of the "intro" chapter that I'm still getting wrong.

Well, it could be many things, but a wide back and thru swing, and tuck/flex that right butt cheek at the right moment - re-read the parts in the book explaining this -- I know, having had the book for about 10 months -- I continue to re-read and learn more details.

If you are making monster divots also make sure that you are not moving your head forward in the downswing.  That will steepen your downswing and make it hard to make good contact.

I was considering trying S&T; because of my back problems, but I always thought S&T; was supposed to simplify the swing process. Now what I'm reading is that it has its own faults and nuances and I can trade one set of swing faults for another set and it's gonna take me years to learn S&T; just like it took me years to learn the old one. I'm 69. I don't have years.

At the risk of sounding harsh, what have you got to lose at a 20 handicap and aged 69?

Find a local Golf Evolution teaching pro near you (or if not then a Stack & Tilt teacher) and take one single lesson to see if you improve; if you do then keep with it but if you don't all you've lost out on is a lesson and you can go back to your current swing.

Note: Golf Evolution is pretty much S&T; but from what I know it's more tailored to the individual player rather than a generic 'one swing suits all'

The simple fact is it won't take you years to learn because you don't need to do all of it. You simply need to do the one piece that's most important to you at any given moment. If your contact is lousy you might work on a piece that cleans that up. We've taught plenty of older players, and we don't do it (to anyone) by completely rebuilding. That makes no sense. You work on one piece at a time. You improve the entire time. You might never get past working on the first piece, or the second, if they're that important and you have a lot of room to improve upon them.

I wouldn't go that far, no, and he's not going to find a Golf Evolution nearby unless he's near Erie, PA. :)

I owe the place some feedback on my S&T; experiment.

It didn't really work for me TBH. I was doing OK with the short irons but just couldn't do it with long irons and woods. I am not saying S&T; is bad. I did it all on my own and I was probably doing some stuff wrong. But  overall it just didn't feel right for me.

I'm in europe so it would be hard to find specialist instructors over here.

I might read the book and see if anything in it might change my mind.

I started with the book, look at stackandtiltgolfswing.com, look at vids posted here, and go to youtube to find Bennett and Plummer -- but read the book several times. You pick up more detail each time as you read and do, read and do.

Question: if you extend too early on the downswing, does a toe hit usually result?

    • 26 Nov 24 -  It was not a record breaking round by any means, but rather a simple walking of the back nine today playing TBWB (two ball-worse ball) where the challenge is to play the worse of the two shots played - could be an errant drive from the woods, a tree knocked ball that is 100 yds farther back down the fairway, a nGIR ball as opposed to a GIR….the goal today was to stay no worse than bogie thru nine.  Managed to achieve that goal - bogied 7 holes with one dbl and one par to counter the dbl.  It’s about staying focused and not letting a bad shot or lie derail, but rather be an opportunity.
    • Day 208 (26 Nov 24)- Opted to walk 9 today (was the back nine as they had a huge group going off the front) but instead of it being persimmons and blades, I had the regular gamers but made it a TBWB (two ball-worst ball) round.  This really challenges on several fronts - ball striking to be as consistent as possible, course management from non-optimal lies and keeping your head in it as it can be depressing to nail a shot on line-on target and the second rattles the trees right and it’s over 50 yards back and that’s the one you have to play.  The goal was to be no worse than bogie overall (+9).  Finished the round exactly on the number with some solid recoveries, no penalty strokes and only one 3-putt.
