Question: For fairway woods, should one setup similarly to the driver as shown in the golf evolution video on the stackandtitltgolfswing.com website in terms of presetting an axis tilt at address?

In other words, hips pushed forward a bit and hands forward resulting in a pre-set axis tilt to the right with the ball position about a ball inside the left heel since this is a longer club.

Ahh, found the answer on p. 91 of the book - the Stack and Tilt Swing.

Fairways need positive loft... move the ball forward and widen the stance.

Just getting into the details of the downswing after one month of intense backswing study, and there it is -- the answer -less experienced players should push their hips further forward at address.

Better players will slide more to create the necessary tilt.

Hey guys,

im hope to get out to course today and play a round, maybe get a few clips of me hitting the ball, trying the stack and tilt......

i wanted to tell you all im taking the dvds and getting snapshots of certain things Andy and Mike say and do, and will probably make a facebook page to archive them.......

i will probably start on the page today....

More Troy Hands also forward, make sure not to get the ball too far forward.  Off the left heel.

Hey guys

i went and played yesterday and also played this weekend....i done real good on friday using s&t; but on saturday i think i was trying to over do it......

anyhow yesterday when i was playing i noticed all my hit were goin to the right.....but my divot is pointing left which mean im either hit OTT....or what can it be.....also im hitting alot of fat shots.....but my major concern is my divot going to the left.....can someone tell me the cure to take care of this?

I was talking with an instructor and I think he's a good teacher - he put some time in the mini tours and worked with some well known MORAD teachers, I forget the names and I've watched him teach.

Anyways, he said he attended an S&T; clinic and had alot of good things about it and said that P&B; really knew their stuff.

One thing he noted though was that the pattern requires an aggressive hip action and not everyone has that.

I personally don't find this to be the case, while I can work on my hip action I don't think I have especially fast hips and it's not impeding me.

Any thoughts? Is what he said a salient point?

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

If you look at my handicap index, you'll see that I clearly am no expert, but I don't find that the hip action is aggressive.  What I do find is that S&T; allows (encourages even) me to get my hips involved.  My old swing had very little hip action, and was much more of a sway.  Now, by straightening my right leg, I feel like my hips are sort of "pre-set" and ready to "fall through" the proper motion.

Quick question as -- I guess -- a fully engaged student of the system. Is there a rough prescription for foot flare at setup? Elk (I know he's not orthodox) says 45/20. Grant and Troy look like a bit less, maybe 40/20 and 35/15 respectively. My playing partners actually call me "duck foot", but I could give a bean because I hit it way better than them.

One of the many nice things about "s&t;" is that it is adaptable and allows for variety. Take a look at Matteson's hip action, Charlie Wi's, and Waite's. They are all different, adapting to each player's particular build/strengths/rom while following the same principles of centered turn on inclined plane with hips forward at impact. You don't need fast hips for "s&t;". Try this, keep the hips forward, squeeze your glutes and RAISE the handel

I like 30* for the lead foot and 20* for the trail.  Book says 10-20*.  Most foot flare I've seen is Grant, super Duck feet!

Congrats to fellow Golf Evolution Instructor James Hirshfield for becoming an authorized S&T; Instructor ! Great to finally see it be "official" since James is one of the best.  Very few have as much experience with the system as he does, almost 8 years of being around MORAD/ST& information.  Funny thing, James was giving me advice when he was still in college, sent me a video from his dorm room!

About James:

James studied extensively under two coaches who learned directly from David Leadbetter and Mac O’Grady. Following his time as a student, James decided that he wanted to pursue a path helping other golfers better understand THEIR own games. He continued his study and research of the Mac O’Grady/MORAD philosophies on golf instruction and over the past four years has had the opportunity to work and learn directly from Mike Bennett and Andy Plummer. Congratulations. Took a lesson from James in the fall and he is very good, made alot of progress.

8 years. That's like 2 or 3 Bachelor degrees or 1 Bachelor and 2 Masters.

Some one recently asked the question about right foot flare.

This is hopefully illustrative of how it can effect certain pieces.

The right foot was adjusted from 5* to 25* and an understanding of what the hips and right knee should do.

    • Day 332: worked on my grip while watching pasta boil. Then did some mirror work later at night.
    • You start pushing forward at P2. You start visibly moving forward at P3. Waiting until the top is way too late, yeah.
    • 100%. I've been guilty my entire time golfing of trying to fit everything imaginable into the .25 second downswing. Sometimes I think it's partly influenced by my backswing length and that if things were slightly longer on the way back, they'd be better synced up on the way down. I also kind of lack a transition. Was doing the practice swing drill today a decent bit where I was feeling like as the club got to the top, the feel of the weight was shifting me forward and initiating the fall into the lead leg. I loved this drill before for this reason and because I need to stop thinking of the golf swing as backswing and downswing.
    • The bold is very late.
    • Angle isn't perfect. Just found my TST alignment stick, so will make sure video angles are better in future videos. Focus right now is lower body and lower body only. If I make a single post here for the foreseeable future about anything NOT lower body focused, I need to be slapped (I will make an occasional note on unrelated stuff I might be seeing). It's not perfect by any means, but there is a decent bit I like about this swing. Lower body is definitely better than it was pre-TST meetup instruction. There are some things that are tough to see I think I'm doing better like where pressure is going into the trail foot and keeping that trail hip internally rotated. Need to keep feeling those. I think I do my best work when the trail leg keeps its flex on the backswing or at most loses a degree. Keeping the flex (but obviously not adding any) seems to help feel like I'm loading the right glute and to keep the hip internally rotated. Not totally sold on this though. I think my work on adding flow during the TST COVID-19 lessons really helped even though its been quite some time. Shift -> rotate -> shift -> rotate. I just need more out of my hips. It's not drastic, but it's everything. I think it will help sync up a lot regarding my swing and more power to boot. Unrelated note: I hate my negative spine angle.
