It may well have been a good investment but it doesn't alter the fact that it's obscene.

You do realize they get half of it right back, right?

I have no problem with the appearence fee. The tournament and taxpayers probably tripled their investment in Tiger with tickets concessions and advertising oppertunities. Now that he is contention, that place will be rocking this weekend.

And is it just me or do austrialian courses look like scottish links courses dropped into the middle of a desert..

No, I didn't. How does that work?

I've always had a problem with appearance fees in golf. Been around a long time and I doubt they'll go away. Just seems fundamentally wrong to me. I think Volvo, when sponsoring the European Tour some time ago, tried to do away with them and increase the event prize funds.....want to guess how that went down? A bit like a lead balloon I think.

Those greens were acting like a pool table, I did see a couple good pitch marks but mostly just bang and roll.

Thats what makes the Australian "sandbelt" courses so good, the firm and fast putting surfaces, just wait for day 4 after 4 days of 30+ deg temperatures.

"World No.1 Tiger Woods has given a strong indication that he wants to come back to defend his JBWere Masters title in 2010, putting the pressure on tournament promoter ING and the Victorian state government to lure golf's greatest drawcard back to the Melbourne sand-belt."

I'd want to come back too if I was offered $3million!

Tiger could get 3 Million dollars every day for playing if he wanted it. The money which the STATE GOVERNMENT paid him has been widely recognised as being a great investment. The tournament was sold out a few days after his entry was confirmed. The interest in Tiger, the tournament and the amount of money being spent in Victoria in relation to it is huge.

Victorian taxpayer backing paid the fee http://news.smh.com.au/breaking-news...0611-y2co.html , If this happened in the USA our GOVERNMENT would catch hell from us! and I'd be first in line to give it to them! I'm not against Tiger getting paid to appear, just in the way it is done Via the Australian government, when that money could be helping 100's of other people who really need it

You'll be surprised how by just Tiger being there stimulates the Victorian economy. It's a sound investment. We rarely get to see Tiger, so golf fanatics fly from all over the country to get a glimpse. You never know if it will be the last time. I'm going.

You're talking about a country who does a very good job of taking care of its citizens. The United States wastes more money on crap that doesn't help anyone than any other nation on earth. %10 of every tax dollar goes to pay interest on debt. 42% goes to military spending of some kind, and our military has more money than every other military on earth, (including our allies)

combined . We could take enough money out of the military each year to fully fund special ed, medicaid, welfare, and several other major projects, and still have more money than all other militaries in the world combined. So, in light of that, this is fairly minimal. It's an investment to get the community more involved in golf, which is good for phsycial activity, and it also brings revenue into the nation.

Only in America baby! but you know that if the US government paid some washed up has been golfer 3 mill to show up at PGA west to play, Heads would ROLL faster than the ball he was hitting, And no doubt straighter

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
