If Tiger "returns to golf" at the Tavistock Cup.....he needs to lose his man card.

Given his reason for absence, I don't think we can justify that loss.

I would have liked to see him in that club tavistock thing, first. IMO, he is going to struggle to make the cut at the masters. Showing up at a major after a soul crushing personal hit and 5 months off too boot? Nobobdy is that good.

Good point... can someone refresh my memory on how Tiger fared in his 1st tourney back after the ACL reconstruction? Different circumstances but I can't remember at all.

From the article: "By choosing the Masters, Woods will skip next week's Arnold Palmer Invitational, which he has won the last two years and six times overall. He also skipping next week's Tavistock Cup, an exhibition played at Isleworth."

Anyway, I don't buy into the bullcrap about rust and "needing a warm-up." Tiger doesn't need a warm-up. It's a convenient excuse. This doesn't compare to the U.S. Open in 2006 - he didn't touch a club for months.

It was the Match Play. His driving sucked. He lost to Tim Clark in the second round. But look at the Match Play in other years - top seeds often bow out early. It's the nature of Match Play. He was T9 at Doral and then he won in his third event back at Bay Hill last year.

Remember, too, the Masters is a major with a smaller field and quite a few ceremonial golfers even still (and I'm including some of the Asian players and stuff they use to bump the "international" appeal). He's won it four times. It's a major, so a lot of others don't have the mental capacity to play well in it.

Smart move.....given all the potential heckling that might have taken place at the Arnold Palmer or some other 'normal' event, the Augusta folk won't tolerate much of that from their "patrons". Maybe that's an intentional/strategic move.

Personally, I hope the man plays well. I can't even comprehend the level of embarassment and shame he must feel. I mean really, I have a hard time apologizing to my wife and/or kids when I've acted like an a-hole, let alone under a global microscope.

With that said, this is gonna be a lot of fun to watch. I can't wait to hear who his playing partner is in that 1st round....

I'm wondering how many interruptions he'll have to deal with during his backswing over the course of a round. Under his normal circumstances, he already gets as many swings interrupted than other player on Tour. Even though it's Augusta, I'm thinking we could a third of his tee shots interrupted ...

Apparently the Masters is also going to be the first event televised in 3D. For sure the most watched golf event in history, perhaps the most watched sports event outside of the Superbowl, World Cup, and Olympics Opening Ceremony.

This is great news and it all makes sense. Augusta is all about golf and that's the way it should be. I just want to watch him play golf and don't care about anything else.

    • I mean there has to be some thought. For eg., something like 'soft knees and wrists' at set up and maybe a dynamic 'left arm to chin' as a trigger to start DS. I have these one or two anchor thoughts and have served me well. In fact, my wildest swings are the one where I have no thoughts or if I forget to walk thru my anchor thoughts. In contrast my best rounds are where I am consistent with the anchor thoughts.    OTOH, if I am running my entire half hour lesson (hypothetical) with some pro that I had last Saturday or whatever before every swing then I'm probably in trouble before I even get over the ball.
    • Two bits. Bit 1 The NCAA's appeal of Brendan Sorsby being granted a temporary injunction will not be heard until February, so there will be nothing to prevent Sorsby from playing the full season and potential CFP.  Bit 2 The Big Ten Conference will hold a meeting and is expected to ban all of its athletic programs from playing Texas Tech in the regular season. Georgia has done the same. The SEC will meet to consider a similar ban. Fellow Big 12 members TCU and Kansas State are spearheading a similar ban, but the conference charter might not allow it. Meanwhile, Big 12 athletic directors are meeting this week to explore what options the conference might have.
    • No, but I'm also in disagreement that golfers have no thoughts over the golf ball, and/or don't ever think I've met someone I truly believe is thinking nothing but "target" or something on most shots.
    • StuM,  I have, in the past, added a left handed club. (Ususally a 7 iron) However, I usually take a stroke penalty and move the ball to where I want it.  I play for fun and in a pinch can use theback side if my club if I don't want the penalty stroke.    RetiredOldMan,  Terry
