is he fully exempt now due to his 2nd place finish? he should have already earned enough $$ to have status or does he have to rely on sponsors exemptions for the rest of the year

Like most things in life, second place doesn't give you anything. Had he won, he would have been exempt for the next two years. As for $$, it only counts towards NEXT years qualification. So while I was pulling for Duval, he still has to rely on sponsors exemptions for the rest of the year--unless he wins along the way, of course.

That's not what they said on TV yesterday. I heard one guy say he may have won enough to get him exempt for the rest of the year. I thought it was odd that he said that, but that is what he said. Not sure if it was on CBS or TGC.

MSDogs covers something (I hadn't heard that, but the PGA Tour has a bunch of weird rules, so it's possible) but here's another: you don't have to qualify or get an exemption the following week if you place inside the top 10. So he can play the next event without needing a sponsor's exemption.

He's 104th in the world. So he's still not qualified for The Masters in that category. Though I think his T2 at the U.S. Open might get him in...?

His 2nd place finish at last year's US Open gets him into this year's Masters and US Open. He is also in the Open Championship due either to that fact or the fact that he is a past champion. He is scheduled to play the Mexico event this week and then in the Honda and Transitions events in FL. He has conditional status because he finished in the top 150 on the money list last year so he can get into some events without using sponsor exemptions.

I think it's great for golf having Duval play well. I know it's only been really two tournaments in a year but if he can build on that it would be very exciting. Jamo has it as far as the majors he is qualified for. It is my understanding that he has conditional status for this year but the 2nd place $$ at Pebble goes a long way to taking care of being exempt for next year.

Yup, he has a little ways to go but I think he wil definitely get his card back next year based on tour winning this year....and who wouldn't give him a sponsors exemption if he asks this year? He is a very bright spot for the PGA Tour right now....and it needs all the bright spots it can get.

The best part of his continued success is recalling all those people that claimed Duval was "done, finished, washed up....and will never compete at a high level again." Sucks to be sooooooooo wrong.

It's great to see David doing so well.....he's my pick to win in Mexico.....got my fingers crossed, the US Open seemed to be his only good showing last year.....truly hope he's headed towards the winners circle, would great to see him back on top....

Tiger's first tournament back, he finishes up about an hour before the leaders, watching them come in on the TV
Duval comes down 18, in the lead in the final group
"Steve, is that David Duval in the last group?"
"Yes Tiger, that's him"
"Wow, how long have I been gone?"

That would be awesome to see Tiger waiting for Duval to birdie the last to beat Tiger by 1 at The Masters

When I first became interested in watching professional golf on television, back in 1995, Duval was one of those guys that I was drawn to. I thought he was kind of cool and began rooting for him. His swing looked really good at Pebble over the weekend. Such great tempo, a smooth transition and terrific shoulder rotation through the shot. I love watching his swing. He has as good a chance as any to win again.

With purses being a little smaller this year I think he needs $100K to make the 125.

Great to hear we'll be seeing plenty more of Duval then.

What an uplifting thread for a change.

I watched him play here in Wichita on the Nke tour, (pre Nationwide), I has aged so strangely, he looks like a fluff-a-lumpagus, or some such caricature. He needs a tailor badly, but his oddly long torso might be the secret to his "core power".
