I am having a problem with topping the ball with the driver and three wood off the tee. This is a problem that I have not had except for when I first started to play the game. I can not figure out what has happened. This is not only a problem it is quite embarrassing. Any ideas?

In the bag.

It's possible that you are thinking "hit up with the driver" too much. Try hitting some shots hitting down in the ball.

Haven't had the problem with driver...YET, but do it occasionally with 3-wood from the fairway sometimes.

I find that's when I'm overswinging and not maintaining my posture. I'll be tense and the club doesn't release as planned but on a higher path.

My cure is to take an athletic stance but relax my left shoulder and watch the imact.

Good luck...it can be really frustrating

When I get into this rut, I tee up the ball a bit higher than usual; lately I have found a slightly higher tee is working well. Only one change at a time though....

Is it a New driver by chance???

The reason I ask is because your subconscious is saying, "Bogeyman68 don't sky this thing, don't put a sky mark on your brand new driver..." So you end up swinging the club about 3 inches off the ground and catching maybe the top quarter of the ball.

retexan599 tees it up a bit more. I do the opposite. Teeing it up more is not going to quell your subconscious fear of the sky mark. Tee it slightly lower - to trick yourself to stay down on the ball through impact.

Tee it lower, take the club back by lifting it off the ground right away, don't drag it along the grass. Swing down on the ball.

Just maintain your spine angle through the shot...you are likely just coming out of your swing.

When this happens to me, I try to make sure I maintain my spine angle through the shot, keep my head down and still and don't come up and out of my swing. Good luck!

Practice swing with your feet together with your driver. I suspect you are swaying and moving away from the ball changing the bottom apex of your swing back thus causing you to hit the top equator of the ball. Also, try teeing the ball higher. This will help you hit over trees in some fairways that are protected by trees.
