I finally broke 100 after starting at the end of last season I thought that it would be at least the middle of this season before I broke 100, but I did today, shot 52 on the front and 43 on the back, only had 14 putts on the back 9 :) Super excited now, but I know that I just gotta keep at it so I can eventually break 90 and hopefully even 80!!!

Congrats man thats a good accomplishment! I have yet to do it myself, hopefully some year i can say I have. Keep at it and soon you will be breaking 90.

Congrats man! I know this isn't what you want to hear, but it's harder to get from 100 to 90 than it is to get from 110 to 100 and it's harder to get from 90 to 80 than it is to get from 100 to 90. Just my opinion. But enjoy getting in the double digits right now, you can worry about those others later. Double digit golf is good golfing.

Yup, I was so excited that I 3 putted the last hole when in all honesty I should have two putted it haha. I'm the first of my three golfing buddies to break 100 so they were all pretty excited(I only played as a single today though). Hopefully next time we go I will have a repeat performance so I can show them haha :)

The avg. golfer's score is 100, so keep working at it and you will soon be an above average golfer. My advice to you is to really focus on your putting, chipping, and shots from 60yds and closer. You get better at these shots and your scores will really start to go low.

Well done mate, I broke 90 the same time I broke 100, I had never shot under 100 before and shot an 89 so killed two birds with 1 stone, that was in June 2008.

To date I still have not broke 80, my lowest score is an 85 at my old club and an 86 on my current championship course.

Some people say that breaking 100 is easier than breaking 90, but I disagree. While I will admit that after breaking 90, it gets much tougher to improve and breaking 80 is MUCH more difficult than breaking 90, I would say that to break 90 (just once, I am not speaking to repeatably breaking 90, that is different) is easier than breaking 100 for the first time.

I believe that you have to have solid fundamentals to break 100. You have to understand the game, and have a somewhat consistant swing to break 100. Many weekend hacks never legitmatley break 100 because they lack the time, patience, effort, etc to dedicate to the game.

Breaking 100 is a major milestone, and I would go as far to say that breaking 90 by contrast is not as important. 100, 80, even par, are probably the 3 major golf milestones (as I see it)

Congrats again.

Thanks guys! And to add to it, I keep score honestly and legitimately scoring everything.(some of my playing partners occasionally take a drop at no penalty etc.), but I decided when I first started that I wasn't going to take free shots because I didn't want to cheapen the experience of reaching these milestones. On a different note, went to the driving range today and was skulling the ball and sending it either hurtling left or right...oh how golf keeps one humble :)

Hey congratulations that's great. My first major goal in golf is to break 100 as well. I guess my second is to go a round without losing any balls! I suppose the two might go hand-in-hand!

Congrats. I was pretty pumped when i shot my lowest round last month. I started out Birdie Birdie Par. Ended up shooting 37 on the front, my best 9 hole score yet, with only 12 putts. Then my back 9 was a 45 with 19 putts lol...

    • Context:  I am on vacation, so I don't have access to my indoor practice room, and I won't for about a month. Day 12 (August 22).  Today's weather was not one where even I was going to be outside.  For whatever reason, I didn't do the putting drill today.  There was a drill I remembered from this site (the article was something akin to "five things you can do to improve that don't require talent") that involved having an iron along the back from stance, moving to backswing and holding, then moving to forward swing and holding.  So I did that for five minutes today. I also spent 90 minutes at the gym;  my main motivation for getting stronger is golf related (and I really should get back to Fit For Golf  specific workouts;  I'm not sure when I lost that habit, a poor choice on my part that I did).  Funny story, I spent 20 minutes on the Stairmaster today at the gym (the rest was weights and rests), a device I started with shortly after I took up golf because I read something about it in a Butch Harmon book.  I should be following FFG Mike's fitness advice though, not some memory of someone else.
    • Day 8 8-22 Worked on backswing length and getting some speed in backswing. Recorded swings. Was happy with practice session tonight.
    • Day 325 - 2025-08-22 Practiced for almost an hour after cleaning my cabinets to account for the new GEARS cameras and helping @OBlum for a bit. Exaggerating the same old things.
    • Yea, faster greens = shorter putting stroke. You can be more accurate.  Really, I think people who struggle with distance control struggle just as much on slow greens as fast greens. I've seen people blast putts 10-FT past the hole on 8 or 9 STIMP as much as 11-12 STIMP.  I prefer faster greens. Usually means the putting surface is better and again, shorter putting stroke.
