At the Players through 3 rounds....

incidentally, Fred Funk is in contention today, and Tiger is starting 10 shots behind. How you play off the tee is important at Sawgrass; that's why Tiger's only period is success here came during his invincible "Tiger Slam" streak. You'll find the same names near the top of the tour's total driving and driving accuracy standings near the top of today's leaderboard.

Tiger withdraws. Supposedly with neck injury. Stevie is loading the car up now. I'm getting all of this from PGA Tour Network on XM Radio. I'll update as they say more.

Update: Michael Collins says Tiger pulled a muscle in his neck during his warmup this morning.

I dunno, he'll have to shoot 66-67 and all of the guys above him will have to go backwards. Not saying it won't happen or that it's not possible, but it's gonna be tough. I actually think Westwood holds on to this one. He's been knocking on the door for a while now.

I agree 100% CJ, if Phil does win, that'd be great too, but I'm going with Westwood

Westwood could easily go backwards today. He can be a world class bottler on occasion. But there's so many other players in contention it'll be hard for Phil regardless. He'll need to shoot a very low round.
A great shot is when you go for it and pull it off. A smart shot is when you don't have the guts to try it. ~ Phil Mickelson.

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP)—A 36-year-old man attending the second round of The Players Championship was subdued by a Taser on Friday. Travis Parmelee, of Jacksonville, was charged with disorderly intoxication and resisting arrest without violence, said St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Dave Messenger. Messenger said course marshals notified officers that Parmelee was yelling at players and being belligerent near the 11th hole. Officers responded and attempted to calm Parmelee down, but they said he became more combative. They tried to take Parmelee into custody, but he resisted and was Tasered once. “He was at the point where it was time for law enforcement to step in,” Messenger said. “Our goal is to escort people off the property, but it was clear he wasn’t going to go with us.” Parmelee pulled away as officers tried to put him into a golf cart, Messenger said, prompting one to touch him with a stun gun. Messenger said it was clear Parmelee had been drinking. “Most people really want to watch golf, and others came out here to drink,” Messenger said. The PGA Tour said in a statement that its position “has always been that anything that disrupts the competition or the enjoyment of our fans will be dealt with accordingly, as was the case today.” The arrest came four days after a Philadelphia Police officer used a stun gun on a teenager dashing through the outfield during a Phillies game at Citizens Bank Park. It also followed an odd incident Thursday night at TPC Sawgrass. Course superintendent Tom Vlach found a car parked on the par-3 No. 8 shortly after dark. According to a report filed by the Sheriff’s Office, Vlach found William John Rinaldi and Brianna Lynn Borelli inside the car with the engine running. Rinaldi refused to turn the motor off and get out of the car, so Vlach called 911. Officers responded and found no damage to the green. Vlach declined to press charges as long as the two were issued a trespass warning.

Just goes to show how many idiots are in the world.

IMO, they also ought to be tasering everyone who yells "IN THE HOLE!" at the top of their lungs, but this is a good start.

I'm rooting for Westwood but I could easily see him throwing up a 74. Despite the shaky first, I think Glover might do something today.

BTW, Tiger's ineligible for the Vardon Trophy now.

By withdrawing on Sunday, Tiger Woods will not be eligible to win the Vardon Trophy this year. Woods has won the award, given to the player with the lowest adjusted scoring average, eight times in his career. In 1988, a rule was instituted that no player can win the Vardon Trophy if he withdraws during a round.

Interesting. Unfortunately for Tiger I don't think it mattered. I'm not a huge Tiger fan, but I hope he sees this as an opportunity to really fix everything wrong in his life with his physical health, his game, and more importantly his personal issues. All competetors want to get back in the game, but to be truly competetive I thnk he needs to get his life in order. I just saw the story of Allenby and his mom. After seeing that I'm pulling for Allenby.

Probably not.

He has five weeks until the U.S. Open. Good luck there - bad driving kills there... and Pebble isn't Torrey Pines. And Johnny just said (I DVRed the coverage) that stress is when injuries occur. I believe it.

Luckily, Tiger has already demonstrated that he has little interest in the Vardon Trophy: he didn't enter the 2006 Walt Disney World Classic (just a few miles from his house) when two rounds there would have given him the minimum 60 to qualify (and win) the prize.

If you are not mentally fit it will affect the physical. Tiger would be well served to fix his life and mental issues before he further hurts himself.

Come on, when did everyone start listening to Johnny Miller? Stress can cause a tremor or soreness, but it can not cause a pinched nerve, a pulled muscle, or a bulging disk, the 3 things Dr. Johnny said he thinks Tiger might have. It is much more likely that constant swinging of a golf club at over 130 mph caused what ever Tiger does have.

Swinging a club over 130mph while your muscles are tense and tight CAN cause those kinds of injuries. I'm sure Tigers usual stress releif activities have been curbed here recently....

But Clark has put up the number, and I doubt either he or Allenby can match it.
