Sometimes I wonder why people bother volunteering any help at all.
A great shot is when you go for it and pull it off. A smart shot is when you don't have the guts to try it. ~ Phil Mickelson.

- Learn to hit a 3/4 shot and make that your full swing (especially with the irons). You'll get rid of throwing your hands up and over your right shoulder (both the backswing and downswing) and will force you to learn to get power from a different sequence of moves.
- Right now, everything is moving laterally when you start the downswing (and part of the reason you get in the position shown by Shanks). Move only the hips laterally, while leaving the upper body more stationary.

Here, I think I can help translate golf > English for you a bit.

I'll say thanks even tough the OP seems unsure if he should or not. This is sound advice and something I need to work on myself. OP- the thing I noticed is that you break your wrists at take away, that opens up the club face immediately. I don't know though, seems like some guys who know a lot more about the golf swing have already commented and didn't it bring it up, so...

Alright Shanks, just got back from the range today, did what you said, i was really holding of the release and holding on to the lag. But EVERYTHING was a shank right, it seemed i couldnt get the face closed and i was hitting nearly every shot off the hosel or the heel... Any thoughts/tips on it?

and also, would you say i need to slide my hips more rather than just turning them? cause i can see i get good hip turn, but yours you have a lot of hip slide.. Is the slide the key getting your weight forward, rather just turning that can still keep the weight back and make for inconsistency?

Yes, you must slide them. You want to have that big "C" shape I have. It allows you to get the club through and deliver it to the ball from the inside. If you turn your hips, you'll force the club out, and hello Mr. hosel. That's all it is. Just give it some time to sink in, and remember you won't hit the ball well to start.

This is a really hard thing to do over the internet, i would recommend working with a pro , if you can. Watch your right arm on your down swing, also your wrists at impact.

Kennay..

As someone like you who closes the face too soon, I'll give you something that has helped me out alot. Do what everybody else is saying but you HAVE to FINISH WITH YOUR CLUB POINTING TO THE TARGET. I know I got in a bad habit of not finishing the swing and when I didnt let the wrists cross before I struck the ball, I'd hit it way left (or right in your case because I'm a lefty).

Basically, just make sure you're finishing your swing by having the club face at least pointing towards your target during the follow through. I might even consider telling you to finish a little left of the target. Hope it works for ya pal

You don't want a reverse C. A reverse C has a soft left knee. What you do want is a lot of extension through the ball. Your head will stay back so it'll look like a "C" shape but it's not the classic "reverse C".

Your hands are getting stuck behind you in the down swing (this may have already been pointed out by others). Hank Haney would tell you to keep your hands more in front of your body throughout the swing. Try starting your downswing by letting your arms drop down from the top of your backswing first and then turn your shoulders through. In earlier days Tiger Woods claimed his hips fired so quickly he would get his hands stuck behind him and have to flip the club with his wrists at impact. His fix was to let his arms move downwards first and then fire the hips (at least this is what he claims to have felt doing). You can actually see some evidence of this transition move in his big driver swings from the late 90's.

Why don't you tell us:

  1. What's your normal shot?
  2. What's your trouble shot? The one you'd like to get rid of most?
  3. What's the last thing you've tried to work on?
