I absolutely have given up on top flite. There was so much hype regarding the gamers, most saying that the balls spin a lot. They do not. I played a whole round at a par 3 course, where I was hitting pitching and sand wedges into the greens, and i would land the ball a couple feet past the hole, and the ball would release to the back of the green, and roll off. Half swing wedges had absolutely no check, even when hit cleanly. My conclusion: Top Flite sucks. Your thoughts?

My thoughts are the same as yours. A Top Flite is a Top Flite. They can't get a player on any tour to play them even for pay so why would anyone want to buy them?

Nobody on tour would want to play the E6, or B330RX, or NXT which you seem to like so much (which is the same ball as the V2 but lasts less and costs more). That's because they aren't meant for the tour. They're cheaper and designed for amateurs who lose balls all the time, so they have a different set of properties. Lower costs, for example, are a higher priority. Not everyone wants to be a wannabe pro.

Being able to take twice as many balls in the bag for the same cost can get people to enjoy their rounds more because it costs less to play and maybe they won't run out on the front 9, the same way a +4 capper's flop shot with his proV1 to save par on 14 and shoot a 66 can make his round enjoyable. Why should either of them care what the other plays?

And if you don't think they could get a few players to play their ball for money, you're dreaming. John Daly would probably do anything for money these days, for one.

Lol Dave... I'm absolutely horid at golf but can still manage to get my Gamers to check up... Except when I'm 40 yrds out and skull it 30 yards past at about 3" off the deck.

Didn't mean to step on any toes and make anyone mad. They do play Bridgestone and Srixon balls on many tours and I think I have seen Volvik or whatever the Korean ball is called. Payne Stewart and Lee Trevino might have played Top Flite. You are right about John Daly.

i think his point is that the Gamer V2 is just as good (IMHO its better) as the NXT/Tour, which you happen to like.

you cannot get a better ball for under $20.

I prefer the Gamer to any non-premium ball.  I have absolutely no problem getting it to check up within a few feet with a low iron.

$15/doz at Dick's right now. You simply can't beat that. They are much better than NXT Tour, for half the price. I'm stocking up before they disappear. This may just be coincidence, but since I have been playing the Gamers I shot 82, 80, and 77, and dropped my hc by 0.4

I was dissapointed with the performance of the GV2 also. I am surprised with the good performance of the Wilson DUO. I have no problem playing NXT and X-OUT/Recycle/Reload ProV1 or ProV1X sold at Academy Sports or Walmart.

Oh, and one more question. Does Top Flite still make STRATA Balls? I had some success with those too.

Last week I played a local course on a chilly day and did not expect to see much out of of the Wilson Duo, well I was wrong, I was a amazed at the distance off the driver and irons with this ball, can't wait till next year to give them a run again.

Correction - Golf Galaxy had them on Black Friday week for $12.50/doz, plus there were $100 off $400 coupons.  So <$10/doz.  I bought several dozen!  :)

For me, coming from Slazenger Raw Distance, 3- 16packs for $35 specials, this is a huge upgrade for even money.  They are durable balls too!

So I tried the major back of suck today. I thought the V2  was pretty good. Though I really must reserve judgment until I can play it in summer conditions. I couldn't get it to stick on the rock hard frozen greens. The few flops I played sounded like the ball came down on concrete, actually bounced around. The ball seems long but the frozen fairways could have something to do with that. It did feel good coming off the clubs and it flew straight but I had a few that flew higher than I'd prefer. I hit it over a few greens and rolled it off a few despite clubbing down one. Hit a big high cut with a 7i on a 177y par 3 with tees at the very back of the box so it played about 8-10y longer than that and it landed about 4 ft from the pin before scurrying to the back of the green and through the fringe before rolling a few inches into the rough. In normal conditions that would be impressive distance for me. Usually hit a 6i from there. For $15 it felt great.

Just curious where you played?  I am in Lochbuie and I played the back nine at the Knolls at Riverdale today.  It was pretty frozen in some spots, especially the tee boxes.

I played Coyote Creek. I wanted to play Riverdale Dunes but I called and the pro shop said only walking Sat-Sun so I decided against it. There was a lot of snow on CC but I managed to avoid it, some of the traps were completely filled with snow. Was surprised the course was even open. The greens were frozen within an inch of the surface but the tee boxes were somewhat soft. Didn't have trouble get a tee into the ground or anything.

I have been wanting to play CC.  I have only been out here about six months and have only played Riverdale and a few courses in Denver. From Wisconsin so I can deal with a little snow while playing as long as I can get out.  Golf season is officially over back there.
