Okay so just in case you haven't seen any of my other threads... I am VERY new to the game, so sorry for the stupid questions

Anyway I've been getting blisters almost every time I go to the range AND except for the first time I went to the range (and went through 2 large bags) ALL of the blisters are on my right hand.

I bought a glove for my left and I cut back on the amount of balls I hit (only 1 large bag at a time)

Thoughts?

In my bag....

1) your grips are old
2) your gripping the club to hard

You're wearing a glove on your left hand, and now you're getting blisters on your right hand? Yup, that'll happen.

Once some calluses develop, you'll be fine. Pack some bandaids and put them on were you get the blisters - in advance next time.

i saw a competitive golfer playing in a tournament on the golf channel wearing a glove on each hand, it was quite wierd. Always keep some bandaids or tape in your golf bag. You ever seen how tiger has tape wrapped around some fingers. Im sure he gets some wear in those spots

Posted
I've never gotten a blister on either hand since my first lesson and I hit a LOT of balls. My Middle finger on the middle joint has a slight callus though...

Some guys get them, some don't. Just depends on how you hold the club and how much grip pressure you have...

I got blisters when I first started, too. I'm not an advocate of the dual glove method - just tape 'em up when you're hitting. They'll heal by themselves in a couple of days and no more blisters after that.

They could also be caused by cord grips.

I have full cord (GP Softie full, GP Tour wrap full, and Lamkin crossline) on a my irons - the Softie full cords are easier on the hands than most non-cord grips I've used. The Lamkin aren't quite as good and if you're talking about 1/2 cord, yeah, those are murder.

Yeah I used to have a GP ND half cord grip on my driver (bought it used) and I didnt really like the feel. I use the GP DD2's on my Woods and irons, and the GP tour velvet on my wedges.

I'm thinking of moving to the DD2 grips also. I have the New Decade Multi-Compounds now and I got huge blisters on my right ring finger and base of left middle finger. I love the feeling of the grips but I'm not sure if it's the actual grip or my grip. I've had blisters before on my old clubs that had wrap grips (stock leather that got really slick at one point).

To the OP, maybe put some sport tape on those areas where you get the blisters and try that. People say "it must be your grip" or whatever, but not everyone's hands are the same. Some people are just easily prone.

Once they callus over they shouldn't been a problem. A question though: where on your hand are they?

Right between ring finger and middle finger on the top of my palm and on my pinky, however those were from the day that I hit the 2 large bags and I just keep reopening them... not in a serious way.

The one that I got today, and is why I posted this thread, is in the middle of middle finger. Good to know that the simple answer is to get some tape, I play guitar so earning callouses is nothing new to me. In answer to another question posted in this thread. Yes my grips are old... as are my irons ;-P

Tiger puts tape on his hands so he has a difference in feel in his fingers, this allows him to keep a constant grip, it has nothiing to do with blisters and all to do with feel.

I like Tour Velvet, the best grip in golf.

I also play guitar, and have to "earn" my calluses after an extended layoff. But what you're describing is not the same. I think in general a blister is a sign that you're doing something incorrectly. It is not something that everyone goes through when they learn the game. I have only once ever had blisters - I was at the range showing off, trying to hit harder than my skills allow. Gripped the club too tightly and ripped up my fingers.

I don't think you should ignore these blisters and what it says about your technique. You should be able to hit a large bucket of balls (or two) without blisters.

    • Day 22 - 2026-01-11 More mirror work. Back outdoors tomorrow.
    • Day 11, 1/11/26.  Today was putting, along about 6' of carpet, with coins on the ground to keep me cognizant of what I'm doing.  I think this is the at-home drill from LSW. (Ugh, missed two of the last four days -- 1/10 and 1/8)
    • Day 9: 2026.01.11 Hit some balls at the range, concentrating on weight distribution at address, got some on film.
    • Day 468 - 2026-01-11 Loooooong day. Did some work in the patio door (as a mirror) when I got home.
    • I caught a video on this driver; the face tech seems crazy. Looking at the heat map for ball speed, hitting it basically anywhere on the face only loses a few percent ball speed. The surprising and counter intuitive part to me was that for flat faced clubs, ball speed loss is directly proportional to distance loss. For clubs with bulge and roll this is apparently not true. The surprising part of that story being that the max distance potential looks to be a tiny pee sized area for this driver, and I feel in general for drivers. The counter intuitive part being (the myth?) that blade irons have a pee sized sweet spot and missing that tiny spot causes dramatic losses. And that modern drivers, maybe 2017 on, have massive sweet spots and are ultra forgiving. Where in reality, if this heat map data is valid and reliable, it might be a bit of the opposite. This insane tech driver appears to have a pea sized "sweet spot" while Mizuno Pro 241 irons are 28% more forgiving compared to the average of all clubs measured. Not compared to other players irons, compared to all clubs from all categories, players to SGI! The Pro 241 being essentially just a solid chunk of metal with no "tech" at all. Which for me devolves into a whole mess of what is forgiveness really? And in measurable and quantifiable results how many yards, or feet, does that translate into?
