I found a pretty nice course around 20 min from my house that has full memberships for $185 a month. However, to get there, I pass roughly 6 different courses. Just wondering how far others may drive as I'm quite sure I spend close to this playing golf in a month.

are any of the courses you pass on the way there courses that you would rather play?

I am not going to be a member of a course unless there is more than one course to play. I did it for 3 months and dont plan on going back for a long time. IDK how people can play the same course over and over and over. That being said, it was the closest course to my house.

My membership is about 50 miles away from my "week" house, but about 12 miles from my "weekend" house, but then I joined it because it was most convenient from the weekend get-a-way.

In my opinion, 20 minutes is no drive at all. My home course is a 15 minute drive most of the time, and I consider that to be right around the corner. So I don't even know what we are discussing here.

I'll gladly drive a half hour to play. I've been known to drive up to 2 hours one way for some of our mountain courses (and pay $95 and up to play), and I'm driving more than 10 hours next month to Idaho and Montana to play. So 20 minutes is peanuts....

I would easily travel 45 mins. for a good deal at a great course. It seems silly to pay more and gets less just to save so gas money. Seems not many like to commute.

At 21, you haven't learned the value of your time yet. It isn't the gas money. It is that my time is valuable. Every hour I spend driving to and from a golf course is one hour less I get to spend playing, working, being with my family, etc.

I will pay an extra few dollars to play a course that is close to my house if that means I can save an hour worth of frustration sitting in traffic.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

lol. what a condescending comment.

Growing up, our membership was at a private course roughly 1 hour away. My father and I made that drive almost every weekend.

Mine is bout 30mins. away at $44 a month, free range, free 9 hole, and discounted at the other 18 holes, plus it is a top 10 ohio Pete Dye course. By far cheaper than any closer course, and by far the best course. Worth the extra drive.

I do understand the value of time, and I would rather spend it at a good course.

1/2 hour is about max for me. Right now its 18 miles / 25 minutes to the course I have a membership at. On the weekend I'll drive an hour or better to play at courses where I'm meeting friends (a different one every Sunday morning).

I pay £1100 a year ($1657 approx) and I play here http://www.southwinchestergolf.co.uk/

but I can play 33 courses for nothing on the same membership Monday to Friday and after 12 at weekends http://www.southwinchestergolf.co.uk/Showpage.asp?p=394

So to me it doesnt matter as there is always one close by
