the best course i've played is bethpage black. they are stepping up the course for the upcoming event. it is absolutely beautiful in this fall season right now!

easily the best course i have played is the club at isleworth, where tiger lives. my uncle is lucky enough to live just 2 streets over and i was able to get on and play when i went down to visit. it was amazing. i also played the golden bear club, at keene's point in florida where my uncle owns another property.

Has anyone played Sand Hills Golf Club in Nebraska??? It's 60 miles north of North Platte. It's only open for four months of the year. It's a true links course laid out over a crazy-windy expanse of sand hills. It's said to be good enough to host a British Open. I have not played there, but I've played with people who've played there and they both said it was the best they'd EVER played. (They both have played Pebble).

I've played Torrey a few times (I'm a local) and love it - you will not be disappointed. I want to play Pebble before I die. I visited it (and Spanish Bay) a few months ago with my wife and was very impressed, some pretty amazing holes.

My best course would be Silvertip in Canmore, Alberta (Canadian Rockies), on a business trip. Gorgeous views, tremendous altitude changes. It was early days in my golfing career and I shot well into triple figures. So did most of the others in the group though so I didn't really care. Speaking of wasting a round big-time, I played St. Andrews as a teenager (decades ago) who barely knew which end of a club to hold. Living in England at the time. Total fiasco .....

Have had chance to play Many great courses. Comes down to connections, money and desire. I have actually bought teetimes off ebay for great private tracks. In states, my favorite public access is Ocean at Kiawah. Better than Kohler, Pebble and Bandon. Best place for a trip is Bandon. Great group of tracks, great facilities and priced at Great value. Have made 10 trips to Scotland/Ireland and can advise St Andrews a must for true aficionado....But best bang for buck....Bandon. Jones Trail is great trip too.

Galloway National is the best track I have been on. Awesome course.

Another must visit for everyone to add to their list to visit would be Atlantic City Country Club. It is one of the oldest courses in the US and was the birthplace of the term Birdie. Spectacular course and clubhouse with a bar that was rated by Golf Digest to be one of the top 19th holes.

Dakota Dunes. I'd be as bold to say that if it was in Ontario and not Saskatchewan it would be one of the highest rated courses in Canada. Just take a look at the pictures on the website:

1. Augusta National
2. Pine Valley

Deciding one and two is a bit of toss-up, but I've played Augusta many more times so I tend to like it the best. I think the more you play a course, the more you can appreciate the little special things that make a course great.

Then there are many other great ones -- but these two leave me in total awe, so the rest are sort of a blur by comparison. Pine Valley is the most precise chess match of golf I can imagine -- miss a key shot and it can crush you. Augusta is so magical but a lot more open. However, when the the greens get a little quicker than what they play the at the tournament, it can be terrifying. Yes, there are days when the greens are quicker than what they shoot for at the Masters.

I've been very lucky to play some great courses - but I doubt if I'll be lucky enough to play Augusta!

For mortals who have to play public, I suggest Arcadia Bluffs on the shores of Lake Michigan. It is absolutely beautiful and a real test of golf. I have a group that I play with almost every year in October. We get the cheap rates ($75) and play. You never know what kind of weather you get in October so it is always fun. For me, if I can walk off a course and not care what I shot and still enjoy and remember the day for a long time, that makes it quite special. It is also is a strong testament that I feel full price at $180? would be a bargain. Just look at the pictures:

Not much chance that golf4him will see this but on the off chance he/she does, I am curious if you have played Cottonwood? How would you compare the two? I am sure that Dunes is a superior course but I have been very favorably impressed with Cottonwood.

I love my high school home course. Kettlebrook Golf Club in Paxton, MA. Was voted on of the best courses in Massachusetts.

Another favorite was Whitinsville Golf Club in Northbridge, MA. Absolutely stunning course with amazing views. It was voted that it had the best finishing hole (#9) in all of New England.

Then there was Carnegie Abbey Golf Club in Portsmouth, RI. Tough course due to the breezes from the ocean, but insane views all over the course.

The Old Head in Ireland
Bandon/Pacific Dunes/Bandon Trails

Did some caddying at both these places...The Old Head pretty much ruined any other ocean course for me forever. Which probably explains why of the 3 courses in Oregon I preferred Trails

Twin Rivers golf course in Port Blandford, Newfoundland, Canada.

the course is built around two Atlantic Salmon rivers, that run into an beautiful inlet. Four of the five par threes are over water, the 8th and the 18th, (Check out the small photos), are over rapids. Pure beauty. The highlight of my summer holidays is the annual Mahogany Place Open Classic which we hold every July there.
