I watched you come in with your brand spankin new set of Taylormade irons, driver, FW, wedges, with a scotty cameron putter...in your brand spankin new giant Taylormade Staff Tour bag...brand new TM gloves on, brand new Adidas shoes on, and you were dressed head to toe in matching Adidas clothing. Oakley sunglasses. You even had a TM marker clipped on your hat.

Impressive.

It became evident after your first swing that you have never golfed in your life. I am not sure if you borrowed all your clubs from a friend but you seemingly have spent what I'm guessing would be over $2000 on golf gear.

After 20 balls or so, it also became evident that you may have completely underestimated the difficulty of golf. You were frustrated...VERY frustrated. You started slamming your golf club into the matt as you could not hit a single ball in the air.

You made a big scene at one point by slamming your driver into the wooden booth divider thing. Followed by slamming another club into your brand new bag and you went on to shove all your clubs in your bag, knock over your bucket of balls (which spilled everywhere and we had to pick up) while you stomped out of there like a petulant child.

Please sell your clubs and never golf ever again.

Sincerely, fellow golfer.

PS. you left your Oakleys on the wooden divider thing. You can find it at the pro-shop.

/end rant.

Too funny.

This leads me to a thought I have had for a while. I can take one look at a person's golf bag and tell whether they can play or not. I don't even have to see them swing.

And I am impressed you returned the Oakley's to the pro shop. Very stand up.

funny you should say that

I played this weekend w a couple + index's and another dude who was about a 8 or so when asked whay my index was, my asst pro said "about an 8 or 10" and i was on HIS team for our best score match play......hehhe! dude looked at my bag, saw my gear and said" no one w Titleist blades is an 8 or so......" (could only see my 8-Pw at the time) hahahaha!!!! thought is was funny.... but i get what ur saying about looking at someones bag and being able to tell if they can play or not...not ALWAYS the case, but most of the time u can tell my mixed up bag looks like i bought it all at a garage sale!! hahaha!

If your gear looks like a garage sale, mine looks like the dumpster behind Value Village.

I golfed with three hackers this weekend (four if you count me). Mrs. Random bag-o-junk outplayed Mr. bag-o-Taylormade and Mr. bag-o-Callaway. Mr. Taylormade had the TM logo on every single club (all 17) and article of clothing. I actually asked them if they were sponsored - jokingly - they thought I was serious and explained where they got everything. OMG - why'd I ask!?!?!

Reminds me of when I used to play racquetball and guys would walk in dressed in complete Ektelon, Spaulding or E-Force gear bagging a top of the line racquet but couldn't hit the front wall. I admit to being a gear geek but only after I've accomplised a level of proficiency in the sport and want to eliminate equipment from being any cause of the problem.

HAHAHA!

Gotta love the poser walter mitty. Why they spend 2 grand on clubs and not 2 grand on lessons is weird. They gotta go for the magic pill.

I like to guess the hacks and scratches based on clubs....it gets more difficult when you judge based on clothing/style. I played with a guy that was smoking a blunt on half the holes and he shot 1 over....crazy.

    • Day 303 - Long travel day, so just some mirror swings. Still trying to find that special combination that doesn’t induce hip pain.
    • Day 54 - 2024-11-13 Played 18 at Tobacco Road.
    • ..maybe 1 shot HC change might be a good starting point..
    • Yeah, I have a similar view. I was in the team of 2 and we got down 5 after 5. Get 1 pt if win the hole - whatever that game is called. We lost it 3 down with 2 to play so almost saved it. After the first hole when the single did a putt, then dropped a second ball, made a slight adjustment and sunk it, we thought it wasn't right. We couldn't do anything with handicaps etc so we just made them wait between putts - usually just one of us to putt. We were a 23 and 25 handicappers (probably playing to about 28) and the single was a 16 handicapper, but somehow had a HC of 20 (so that is 1 HC pt already). In terms of making it fair, and changing HC (HC1 + HC2 / 4), I think maybe adding 2 HCs to the double (or taking 2 HC off the single (after the adding and div by 4) might make it fair. Also maybe making a rule that the single couldn't change clubs for the second hit. Hard to say from that one game but possibly: - 2 shot HC adding - can't change clubs for second shot - need to have other team putt in between their 2 putts   Not sure. Do you think you'd still win or have these rules made it unfair the other way? Cheers for thoughts..
    • In that case I double down on my comments - I'll take the single guy and I know if I'm in that match against two similar players I'm pretty confident that I'm the favorite.
