Your thoughts advice-- traveling

Ok guys... appreciate your checking out this post and please give me your thoughts on the following situation.

Just some background info to help give an idea/background.
Ive been playing golf now for about 6 months......Im playing ok...shooting in the high 90s, low 100...been taking lessons every week and play 18-27 holes per weekend. I am committed to getting better as im hooked on this game..

I have been invited to play in a golf tournament in Germany for a company outing. Will be my first tournament.. they will have two categories by handicaps--- so ill be playing with other golfers in my level...
1 day event... nice place.. since its a company outing... some will play serious while others will just drink and have fun..


Finally my question.... if you were in my shoes-- :

1. Should i bring my own clubs?

Pros:
1. I have a hybrid Bagboy Travel Case that is makes traveling easy with the clubs... ill probably take my driver, 3 wood, 3H, 5-9 irons, pw, sw, putter.--- so 10 total clubs..vs my regular set of 14..

2. I get to play with my own clubs...having more confidence with my equipment-its what im used to... vs whatever the club may have to rent...

Cons
1. its only 1 day..
2. I might feel kind of stupid bringing my clubs and playing like crap.....



The only other happy medium:

If i could have my 3H... then i'd feel alot better about playing..since i tend to use this club alot--- especially if im struggling with the driver.... ill take less distance and go with accuracy.

2. Could you take 1 club as a carry-on in a plane? eg. like a 3H? Ive seen people take tennis rackets and canes--- but never seen anyone take 1 club... is it possible?

what if its a driving range bag...can that go as carry on? something like this..

Im leaning towards taking my bag....i think it would be fun to be in my first tournament with my own stuff... if i play bad.. i play bad.. whatever.. more motivation to get better... but i need to be realistic and practical too..

I say if it's not a hassle to bring them and you think you'll enjoy yourself more, then go for it. Who cares if you're not a pro? Everyone's been there and I doubt they'll hold it against you. You'll probably get a lot more congrats than nay-sayers.

If I were you I'd just rent clubs, save money and hassles, and have fun. You're a relative beginner and you're traveling halfway around the world for 1 round of golf. They'll prob charge you $60 minimum for the baggage each way. So not worth it to me.

It sounds as if your baggage fee is covered by your company? If so, take them. If not, take them. It's better to play with your own stuff. I don;t think you can take a club as a carry on. The length and/or width rule would eliminate that I think. You might be able to check it plane side without a fee. And feeling stupid for bringing your clubs? Don;t even give that a second thought. Hey man, you're doing great for playing 6 mos. Awesome in fact. Take your clubs, feel good about yourself and play well. I bet you will surprise yourself.

For one day, I'd rent them. First, no, you cannot bring a golf club on a plane as a carryon. Second, if your clubs are even moderately expensive, the airline may not be liable to cover anywhere near the actual value of the set on an international flight. Within the US, they're responsible for something like $3,000 of damage; internationally, I think it's more like $400. Plus you get to deal with foreign customer service when trying to sort it out if it happens on the way over, which will compound the difficulty.

I recently went on a trip and during the trip I was getting 1 round of golf in. I am a new player also and was trying to decide whether or not to bring my clubs. It didn't cost me any extra to check the bag and my thought was, since I'm new and new to my clubs it was another chance to get used to them. if it doesn't cost extra just bring them. Since you are going for a short period you can check that bag and use your carry on for clothes since you probably wont need that much. Might as well make the experience as enjoyable as possible right?

For one round I would rent, for two or more, I would bring them.

If you check the TSA web site, you'll find that a golf club is not allowed as a carry-on item. Save yourself expense and worry and just rent a set when you get there.

I'd say take your own stuff. Any chance you could take a couple of days vacation while there and play some more? Several big-name courses were being built in central Germany last time I was there (2003).

I have brought my clubs from the UK to the US for one or two rounds many times, and never regretted it.

I'd take them. A good travel bag will keep the clubs protected... And I hate playing with other people's clubs! I don't think it has anything to do with level of talent, for me it has to do with comfort.
