All year round golf?!

What's the best place in the USA for all year round golf?

I assume California and Florida will be in the running?

Now year round golf, that has to mean that you can stand to play in the summer heat as well, right? Some people forget the off season in places like Florida and Arizona is summer because it is to darn hot to play in the middle of the day. I still say Albuquerque has some of the greatest golf weather around. It does get cold on the winter but it rarely snows and we have over 300 sunny days a year. In the winter it stays around 40-50 degrees so chilly but in the summer it stays under 100 with little humidity so you can stand to play in the middle of the day. True year round golf!

Last year, I played during eleven months of the year in Central Ohio! I only missed December, because there was snow on the ground every weekend. My friends and I play down into the low 30s as long as the wind is reasonable and it's relatively dry. I think our record low during around is about 28 (degrees).

Hmmm ... how's the job market in Albuquerque?

im 16 but currently scouting for D1 colleges to play for them but im hoping to make golf a living after... its a must to be able to play year round how far north can i go before its not realistic to play year round... (eastern side of usa) ...im from eastern canada

I'm in the Seattle area, and I play year-round. I'm not saying this is a great area for it, I'm just addicted and not afraid to get rained on.

In most cases I prefer to play in less-than-perfect weather as the courses are deserted.

Here is the GHIN revision schedule website. Click on it and check the states that have seasonal handicap revisions or year round revisions. If they revise year round then you can bet there is golf to be played truly year round. If they are seasonal you can bet they put the clubs in the closet in December, January, and February. It is a good place to start. Really and truly you'll need to go pretty far from home in order to play all the time.

It was before I played golf, but Mobile is one of the rainiest places in the country. December and January especially. Cold snaps are brief but the rain is a downpour often not light rain or drizzle like parts of the northwest.

Its early but check out the trends already. The numbers indicate the golf weather index 0= terrible 10=perfect. Notice where all the high numbers are!!! Albuquerque is a 9 tomorrow good thing I have a 8:40 tee time.

I love the dry heat of Arizona for year round golf...

I can speak of experience from growing up in Alabama. Anything north of Montgomery will freeze during the winter at some point in time. The Gulf Shores or Orange Beach area and through the Florida panhandle might offer milder weather during the summer and winter, but I'm not sure.

Living in Orlando now, the heat isn't bad during the summer if you're used to all of the humidity. If you're not, then it's pretty horrendous. Also, it rains nearly every day in the summer around 3 p.m. The 5 months or so from November - March is usually very nice with little rain...and no hurricanes.

I can also speak for Southern California. I was stationed at Ft. Irwin, CA doing some work last year during the summer and winter and it was great. Low humidity and mild temperatures during the winter. It's about halfway between LA and Vegas, and is adjacent to the South border of Death Valley. The high desert can get hot, but as long as you keep hydrated and shaded, then you can still enjoy a nice practice session or round during the August and September months.

Play is pretty much year round here, except, when there is actually snow on the ground. Snow normally only lasts for a day or two, so an odd weekend may be missed from time to time. Sure, the temps are chilly, but that's why we have sweaters, jackets and such. Right?

BTW: We do see rain in late winter, but not 24/7 like the Northwest. LOL

Are you saying poeple can actually golf during the winter???
I broke a wedge one winter here in Ohio. I was behind a bunker, elevated green, trying to land it nice and soft, plopped it right in the middle of the bunker then slammed my wedge at the ground in disgust, the darn thing snapped into pieces. haven't played during winter since.

Not to be too defensive of my home state... but relative to the Northeast and Northwest, it doesn't get too horrible here :) We play 11+ months a year, and having had lived in So Fla for 5 years where it truly is miserable in the summer, central NC and SC are year-round golf places with some good D1 schools (Duke, Clemson, UNC, NCSU, USC, etc.) that have great golf programs. In the winter, the only thing we encounter is morning frost delays, and since we usually only see snow on the ground once a year, it's not too often that play is cancelled due to snow.

And I couldn't help but noticing on the weather map that NC had a bunch of 8's for December...and yes, I did get out yesterday to try out the Christmas present wedge :)

Florida is definately a great place to play year round but there is a big difference between north and south florida. Having lived in both extremes of the state I prefer N. florida due to the milder summers and cool winters despite how cold it can be during winter in the early morning by afternoon its nice in the high 60s to low 70s. South Florida though comfortable in winter is miserable during the summer no matter what time of day.

I must agree with you Pez. Summer in South Florida is INDEED MISERABLE any time of the day. High heat along with the humidity is brutal.

You can play year round golf here in Idaho....... I'm not saying its the most pleasant experience but sometimes you just gotta swing the battle sticks!!
