balance

Recommended Posts

1. Set up balanced.
2. Swing more slowly if need be.
3. Take practice swings in which you lift your right foot off the ground immediately upon reaching your finish position. After you fall over a few times, you'll start adjusting your balance during the swing so you have it at the end.

Try swinging and hitting balls on the range with your feet quite close together. If you don't use good tempo, you will fall over in a hurry.

Try to get a video and post it. There are lots of things that can throw you off balance, it's hard to say without seeing the swing.

i usually fall to the toes, i slowed my tempo way down last night at the range, it helped me to get a feel for maintaining my balance, i will try and get that video up asap, thanks for the advice!

I use to lean forward while driving. I did hit some mean drives but alot of the time I was falling to my toes and uffbalance on the follow through. You could be leaning forward and need to stand straighter and slightly closer to the ball. That was the fix that worked for me.

I had horrible balance back in the '70's...took a few years of karate and fixed me..any martial arts training is excellent for body awareness.

Falling to your toes means your setting up with the weight on your toes at address. Because if your own your toes, you will fall to your heels in the backswing and to your toes in the downswing. The force of the club will bring you further forward as well.

A nice practice drill i found was get a small wedge (wood block angled to a point, like a door stop), and place it under your front food to prop up your toes a bit, swing with this and get the feeling of finishing in balance. You will find it strange, but it helps out a ton. Remember 50/50 on the heels and the balls of your feet. Most people think to be on the balls of your feet and end up being on there toes.

I used to have the problem of falling forward. I traced it back to my setup and general swing concept. I started swinging where my swing path was closer to my feet - more upright in other words.

I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but I'm pretty new so I'll suggest it again since it could be a real help in your quest for better balance.

I'm talking about the Titleist Performance Institute, which has a Golf Fitness Academy, which has several segments relating to balance.

I found this site after while doing some reporting and talking with one of the people in the Tour's fitness van. I think this link should work.
