A couple new Mizuno irons on the way - an MP63 and MP53 to replace the 62 and 52 respectively. Images are from a European retailer.

Last few in the MP series went:
MP-57/67, MP-52/62, MP-58/68
Thought the 53/63's would replace the 58/68.

Any pictures of the MP-63? Always loved the look of their blades.

Mmmm, pretty. I'm going to a demo day on the 11th, and I believe Mizuno will have their new ones there then. I'll try to get pictures if I can. Step 1, find my camera.

The 53 and 63's replace the 52 and 62's.

Seems Mizuno has abandoned the MX entire or at least some it also and replaced it with the JPX 800 pro and JPX 800, the latter being cast and the former forged.

going by pictures only, I think the 53's and 63's look hideous compared to the 62's and 52's, but maybe i'm biased.

I agree. I think they look cheap.

That's exactly what I thought, but it also looks as a way to minimize the difference between their game inprovement vs. game enhancement.

I do not like them at all. They do appear to blur the line between the MP and MX line though, which may be a good thing.

I just held them at the golf store. Those pics dont do justice at all, they are alot better in person. I agree I dont like the triangle shapes on the mp ones but they were pretty darn nice in person. As far as the JPX 800 pro, those are much better than the mx series in my opinion. They are forged and they arent as bulky as the mx line, I think they will be the best game improvement iron on the market. I want to see the new blade line though. Guys this is mizuno, dont make your judgements until you hold them, they back up the name.

While I understand withholding judgment until you hold the clubs in the store, based solely on the photos here, I think the clubs look terrible. One of, if not the, best part about Mizuno clubs, IMHO, is their simplicity of design. Mizzys aren't busy and don't seem tricked out; they are just good, classic-looking golf clubs that are beautiful to play and look at. Personally, I think the ideal look for irons are the blade look, but obviously I (along with a lot of other people) can't/don't play blades. I like to think that Mizzy blends the blade look with technological function (i.e. bigger sweet spot, perimeter weighting, etc), but it appears that the 53/63s are getting away from that.

Again, this is just an opinion, and I look forward to checking them out in person. But based on the photos, I'm disappointed in you, Mizuno.

i think they look nice actually... its not like they have random plastic parts plastered in the cavity... its just a unique way in which they created the cavity. I personally like it.

I guess they are somewhat reminiscent of the old King Cobras I used to have:

The triangle just looks so huge and pronounced on the MP's

Those are bad pics. There are better ones out there, just search google. The MP 63's are a blade actually even though some pics look identical to the 53's. Also the diamond pattern has a purpose. The cutouts in the sole remove weight from the center and extends it to the edges for more frgiveness and the other half actually raises the cg for a more penetrating ball flight.

Looking at both ..... it is like Mizuno kind of focusing on mixed sets of short irons in the MP63 and mid/long in the MP53 having matching looks ..... I wonder what the design of the "new" MP 59/69 will be like ....

I like the 63s, but don't think I'd trade my 57s for them from a looks point of view.

    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
