Can anyone recommend a set of irons that might be good for me?
Here's the rundown:
15 yo male, 5'8"
Average score (don't look at the handicap, its wrong) is ~82
Looking for a set of split cavity irons or forged irons.
Thanks,
Varsity

Right now you cant get the vr blades pretty cheap(got mine for 390). Alot easier to hit than most and they are forged. Otherwise the bridgestone makes some good, cheap irons currently(cant remember exact name).

I like Mizunos just as much as the next guy, but you should probably also have a hit with the Titleist AP2s and/or CBs.

I'll throw in another suggestion in there..

Callway X-Forged is going on sale around various shops for cheap. I play with it because its one of the best I've hit. Of course its all personal preference so I can't say its the best for everyone but as far as irons go, I'll put this set against TItleist AP2's, the CB's, as well as the Mizuno MP's.

Try Mizuno Mp series, my friend had mp-32 and it is forged, best club I ever tried. Great feel. But it was just too hard to hit for noob like me. I see your are still young. Why don't you try R9 TP? Or even Callaway X series. They tend to last longer also has great feel to it. One thing I didn't like about Mp 32... My friend took it to the pro shop every season to get check his loft, angles, and etc. And it also gets easily dinged up. Just my 2 cents

If you've looking at blades (not judging), don't limit yourself to brand new irons. If they've been well taken care of, an older set can be in great shape. They haven't made any real advances in steel shafts, and it's ~ $50 to get your lofts and lies done.

My Mizunos are 19 years old and they don't look too bad and a lot of guys take better care of their forged blades than I do. Here's a recent picture of my irons (taken 2 days ago).

    • Feeling a tiny bit more upright, more width, and a slightly faster tempo. Still not enough confidence to bring a square face set up to the course but will get there one day. Interestingly, it didn't take this long to bring the driver square set up to the course. Its is like rehabbing my ankle all over again. Slow, painful and wanting for patience. I guess this is how you fill this bucket - one spoonful at a time.
