Had a couple of these today ...

1. 135 yds out an set up to hit a smooth 8 iron. Caught the ball thin sending a screamer toward the green that never got more than 3 ft off the ground ... result was it hit, bounced and rolled to within 10 ft of the pin. 2-putt for a par (not a bad result from such a bad shot).

2. 195 yd Par 3 - I hit my 3 Hybrid - again, catching it a bit thin and sent it rifling down range - again, bouncing and rolling it to within 10 ft - again, 2 putts for a par.

So - is this what it means when they say "getting better at golf is about making your bad shots not so bad", or was I just being smiled on today by the Golf Gods?

I'll take the results, but it doesn't feel nearly as satisfying as a well-struck shot!

I've had a few that were going deep into the woods just pop out from no where, but for every great result I have an iguana eating my ball or hitting a sprinkler head (that was on) and having my ball come straight backwards. Or clearing the entire tree except that last branch.

Yeah I have had a few woods shots like that as well. Last time I played I hit one a little short but it was short of a sprinkler that was on so I figured hey I will take it, at least I dont have to get wet. Sure enough as I was about to hit my ball the sprinklers right near my ball turn on :(

The absolute best i have saw, the guy hit a huge cut to about 50 yards left of the green on a par three. It hits the top part of the tree solid and lands 10 feet from the pin on the green, that was just crazy.

I've had quite a few of those exact same shots. On one 150 yard par 3 I skulled it so hard it pretty much looked like I putted it from the tee box. Ended up a few feet from the pin and I got a birdie. :3

I had a bad shot today lead to a good shot. I hit a bad, bad slice into the next fairway over. The drive only went about 190 yards on a 420 yard hole. I then hit my 5 wood, struck it pure and straight. Ended up about 6 inches off the front of the green with a front pin location. Almost putted that in for a birdie, was just an inch too far to the right. Managed to get par even with that awful, awful tee shot.

Had another a few months ago on a 170 yard par 3 where I took too much club and hit it into the trees to the left behind the green. I heard it bounce no less than 4 times and it ended up about 15 ft from the pin on the green. That was pretty awesome. I think I made par.

Boyd----Had a shot like yours last year. I was playing Mascoutin CC. My son and I were playing through a 5some on a 185 yard par 3. My thinned 5 iron was 8 feet off the ground max. I immediately turned in disgust hitting such a poor shot in front of the gallery. As I'm retreating to my bag the 5some starts hooting and hollering. The ball was hanging over the lip of the cup. 1/8 more turn and it's hole in one.!!!!

I've never had a hole in one so in way I'm glad it stayed out. I'd like my first to be a most excellent stroke!!!!!

About two years into playing golf I was on a short Par 3 that was downhill. The course wasn't very good and had a lot of rocky bare spots in various places. I hit my tee shot and it went about 50 yds. to the right. It wound up hitting some rocks and bounced hard towards the green, rolled up to the pin and bounced off, ending up about six inches away from the hole. Like the last poster, I'm glad it didn't go in either because I wouldn't want that to be my only hole-in-one.

I pulled one left of the green, it faded back a little & i lost it in the shadows on the green.

152yd par3. It ended up being my first ace.

lol yeah.

Like some other posters ive completely skulled balls and had it roll 180yds onto the green on par3's heh. One in particular was on a par3 where I skulled the ball but the green was elevated with a big trap right infront of it. The ball managed to like roll along the rim of the trap perfectly pop out and land in the rough about 10ft from the pin I was like "yes!"

I wouldn't be so lucky at my course....all the Par 3's have some sort of carry over water or marsh lol. I have skipped a topped ball across the lake to where it was sitting up in the mud short of the green tho.

My tee shot on a 350-yard par four was this gigantic hook. About 180 out I hear, KNOCK!. The landing area is blind so I hit a provisional. Another hook, although not as bad. Same area, I hear knock, knock, knock, knock. Tee up one final ball, and hit a slice. You guessed it, KNOCK! Finally, I said the hell with it and drove forward to see if I could find the last ball because it was in an area I'm used to being in.

As I clear the top of the hill, I see ALL THREE of my balls sitting in the fairway. I could not believe it. Picked up the two provisionals, and hit hit a beauty of an iron right at the stick. Came up a tad short, and it stopped right on the lip of a deep bunker. Chipped on, putted for par, and said thanks to God!

That was the extreme, but it's how my whole day went. Wierd, ugly shots that came out OK or better.

What i call a strategic lay-up, taking a 3-wood and topping it 130-140 yards down the fairway. Ending up with a perfect wedge distance.

Hitting the top of a bunker and having the ball bounce to with in 3 feet of the pin.

Hitting the top of wood retaining wall to the lake infront of the par three and having the ball bounce to 5 feet in the pin.

Hitting the cart path and leaving you 50 yards from the green on a 400 yard hole

Hitting the pin from a scoulded sandshot leaving a 3 footer for par (that was a funny day, almost fell over laughing at that one)

Bounding the ball off the clubhouse onto the green of a par 3

I'll take a hole in one however it comes. No issue here. It seems that for every lucky bounce received, I get about five going the not-so-lucky way. An Ace would even the ledger for me.

When I first started golfing last year their was about a 205 yard Par 3 that I was playing which would've been a 3 Wood for me at that time. Crushed it way over we're talking a good 50 yards over if it doesn't hit a pine tree and bounce back 4 feet away.

My favorite was on a 350 yard par 4 when I had first started golfing. I duffed my tee shot and left myself about 190 yards to the green.

I hit a 3hybrid absolutely horribly. The ball went about 2 feet off the ground and started skimming down the fairway.

It rolled up to about 2 feet from the hole and I tapped in for birdie, pretty awesome.

Oh, and one time I pulled a tee shot on a 145 yard par 3. It was going way way left and I thought it was a write off, but it bounced off a rock or something wayyyyy high and dropped to within 15 feet of the pin. Made par.

Had a little chip this morning that was totally buried. I got the front edge on the ball, hopped out like a wounded duck, skidded around on the green and rolled in the hole. Ugly ones count too.

When you 'get away with' a bad shot, it's called an O.J.
