Have you ever noticed that certain trees around the golf course seem to go out of their way to block the shots of high handicappers?

Just the other day I hit my drive into the right rough and it settled underneath one of these evil trees. Now, I know that a tree is 75% air and this one looked even more so. All I had to do was go under or over a 2 inch diameter branch. If I took a bucket of 100 balls and tried to hit this branch, I wouldn't be able to do it so I thought the decision to go for the shot was an easy one.

Well . . I didn't realize this was one of "those" trees and it basically lowered it's branch and swatted my ball out of the air like a NBA point guard. I swear I even heard it say "DENIED" . .under it's breath.

I'm coming back after dark with a chainsaw . . make that stupid thing into a deck chair.

It's not the tree branches that like to attack my ball.. It's the ball that's attracted to the trees. I hate trees on the right, since my ball keeps seeking them out. Then again, I have a slice issue.

I ran into one of those yesterday, only this one used its hip (you didn't know trees have hips?) to try and wreck my day. I hit what seemed to be a great tee shot on the long par 5 9th hole of the Ridge 9 at Pole Creek. The ball drifted a little bit left, but still in the fairway, landed on a small mound and of course kicked dead left into the trees. I had about a 6 foot opening to punch the ball through back into the fairway and advance it a little bit into range of the green. I hit a little punched 7I almost perfectly, then the tree stuck its hip out and swatted the ball straight left.

The only good thing is that I then had a clear shot at the green. hit it close and got up and down for a weird par.

I hate the pine trees that sit really low to the ground..

My little trick i learned is take a 3-wood and just it it like a hard putt, the ball will travel about a foot off the ground. I used it a few times, its a nice little shot. I got pin high from 150 once ;b

Uggh the other day I was hitting from an elevated Tee down to a lower fairway where I hit the top of a huge Oak Tree about 190yds away. I was using my driver and the ball flew like another 180yards back and landed right infront of the tee box

Does it count as 370yd drive?

I think its amazing how you can just flat out nut a dive and the second it touches the SINGLE leaf sticking out it knocks 60 yards off of your drive.

Not only do trees deflect or stop your golf ball, they occasionally eat one, leaving no trace. Plus, evil trees will get together and start waving their branches and cause a big wind effect that blows you ball off course. On a hot windless day you can stand out of the sun under one, but they can also beckon lightening to come strike them so don't get under big trees when there is a lightening storm.

Now, I know that a tree is 75% air

I tried to use that thought process while playing with my dad and he countered my logic with, "and the human body is made up of 75% water, so go stand in front of me and let's see if we can slosh one through you!" :)

I hit a fairway shot to right in front of these trees once and a hanging branch snagged my club on the back swing 5 times once i got to it. It was hillarious. there was a marshall there or i woulda pulled it down( it seemed to be hanging dead and i think someone might have been in that position before me )

If I'm hitting under a tree, I have a 90% chance of hitting the bottom branch. I don't get why I can always get the ball get 10 feet off the ground after traveling 15 feet forward with a 1/3 swing, hooded 4 iron, but I can. I've had several occasions where I hit a great low pitch, it strikes the very most bottom branch perfectly and bounces back to a point behind where I started. It was funny the first time that happened to me because the ricocheted ball almost hit a duck. The second time it was annoying. After that, it's really annoying.

Trees are truly a menace. Besides torturing golfers, it seems every year a number of them jump out and kill skiers - I recall one year in California we had 3-4 skiers killed by trees in a several week period, including Sonny Bono. They are also the leading cause of air pollution, at least according to Ronald Reagan who said they cause more pollution than automobiles, and we all know Reagan was never wrong. Trees are sentient beings, placed here by space aliens intent on destroying mankind. Everyone should be armed with a chainsaw anytime you go outside your house, just in case.

I hit moer trees monday then I ever have in my life. Seriously I must have hit a tree 15 tiems on one round. I jsut coudnt catch a break. the tee boxes were lined up way left and lately instead of trying to correct it I've just been playing a fade, slice. EVery damned tee shot almost hit a tree with about half of them hitting trees and then about 8 of my 2nd or 3rd shots hit trees too. I could go on and on about the ridiculous tree shots I hit that one day.

    • Imma throw a dart in the dark as no one can tell what is happening once every fourth iron shot per your OP. This might sound counterintuitive but if ball position is too far back in the stance folks are known to throw down clubhead steeply. Could be happening. And yes, @billchaois not wrong; clubhead tends to bottom out wherever your pressure is. So slide forward (not sway), then hit.

    • Day 24: Missed my weekly round due to a last minute little league makeup game this morning. Managed to get in some backswing rehearsals while grilling sausages for dinner, and then putted around the office/laundry room after dinner.
    • but I don't understand how that's possible you still want your head to stay back you don't want the upper body coming forward and plus I've tried feeling that and it made my fat shots worse and I then tend to pull and sky all my shots especially with driver because I get in front of it dont need force plates to see i finish on my left side
