...I know this is hard enough with a video and basically impossible with out one but anyway....I hit my irons, and even my rescue club pretty darn straight most of the time but all the sudden I have a pretty nasty slice with my driver and I can't for the life of me figure out what I am doing. I know I just need to go take a lesson and have someone look at my swing but any suggestions or things to try to fix this??? Thanks!

Are you trying to really "go for it" with your driver?
Without seeing your swing it's difficult to pinpoint anything, but I'd say if you still hit your irons and hybrid straight, then try to shorten your backswing of your driver, and don't go at it 100%, try 3/4 swing.
If it's only with the driver, I'd say your timing is a bit off and a long backswing makes it difficult to transition properly (at least in my case that's what happens.)

No not really. I actually tell myself to slow it down to try not to "kill it" But I do have a pretty slow, deliberate backswing that I'll try and shorten up. Thanks for the tip!

Where's the ball position for the driver? Where's the ball position for the hybrid? Are you hitting push slices, pull slices?

Does your driver swing vary from your hybrids swing? Hit several shots of both, alternating, and see what differences you can find. I've thought that I was using the same swing for different clubs before and been totally wrong.

Can you hit a full swing driver, say, 160 yards straight? That requires some effort, but not much beyond solid contact.

I make sure I do a full release. (do a full shoulder/hip turn on the downswing)
Do it too much and you'll get a hook but it's better than a slice at my course.

If it were a consistent fault with all clubs then I would think it could be the swing itself, but the OP says it is only with the driver. As clubs get longer, the tendency is to make a longer backswing, which in turn makes it more "tricky" to make a downswing "in the correct order" (i.e. easier to get out of timing). I'm guilty of that fault, it's easy to feel confident hitting a crisp and easy 8 iron, and then taking the driver and all of a sudden the backswing takes the clubhead way past parallel at the top, and that translates into the arms/shoulders pulling down instead of the hips sliding forward at transition: the result is an over-the-top swing that slices the ball.

Unless the OP shows a video, I think it's better not to give too many different tips. If shortening the backswing doesn't work and if as B-Con suggests, by alternating shorter and longer clubs the OP cannot narrow down the differences, then a video is what the specialists here need to diagnose what's happening and how to correct it.

Hit a few balls with the ball further back in your stance, let me no how they go.

If not try to hit a hook, closed stance and tell me how they go, I might be bale to give some help.

My problem under pressure with the driver was to start lifting and quit turning (thinking I was shortening). This makes it ugly quick and is something that I have to guard against.

I have had a similar problem. You could try a stronger grip with your driver and see if that changes anything for you.

At this point I'm guess'n your doing the old OTT (over the top) move, which in turn can cause a fade/slice.

I've been there as well.....CrazyXGolfer is right...

Hit a few balls with the ball further back in your stance,....

Look at your setup.....very possibly you are setting up with the ball too forward, whereas with your irons you are setting up in the middle of your stance and getting a straight shot.

Another thought you want to try is....Imagine that your right bicep has been duct taped (from the elbow up to the shoulder) to your rib cage. This will straighten your swing path to eliminate any outside-in path that can also promote a slice. A third thought to correct this slice, use only a 3/4 backswing. sometimes when you try too much backswing you end up with an open clubface at address. Hope this helps......these are the thought I use to get back on track during a round....and they work.

Wow thanks for all the responses guys! Right now I always have the ball just inside my left foot (I'm a righty juts to clarify) with my driver and more centered with all the other clubs. I'm going to try shortening up the backswing first and maybe moving the ball a little further back in the stance. I do struggle and feel much less comfortable with longer clubs, I'm not a very big guy, only about 5'6" and the wedges and short irons just feel so much better to me. I hit balls yesterday and won't have a chance again until Saturday, I'll try and report back and see if I can work anything out. Also planning on taking my first lesson ever in the next couple weeks because I really want to get this figured out the right way. Thanks again!

tee it up an inch or two further back and work more on hitting down on the ball even with driver. That helped me stop A LOT of slicing when all my other clubs were going straight too. Now I need an 11* driver cuz my 9.5* is hitting line drives.

I know it's probably a bad idea too but I close my stance more for the longer clubs and get more straight or draw from em and open my clubs more for the short stuff and get baby fades. I swing around my feet and that's it. I can't control my swing path any other way. I've tried. So if I wannt hit a straight drive I aim straight and then close my stance some and it usually works out better. If I need a fade ill open it some.

Set up with your right shoulder lower than the right, take the club back nice and smooth and make sure your grip and arms are relaxed like spaghetti.
Stay down and through the shot while keeping your head still.
