At least you'll have a chair close by to sit down after you get tired ;)

You guys don't know anything. This drill clearly helps with key #6 - steady ass throughout the swing.

Yeah the drill makes it kinda hard to get the weight forward at impact, among other things.

At least he's getting that back leg straight! :-P

So…

Pointing your feet left and right is needlessly difficult.

Trying to change your "hand action" is how you curve the ball.

Got it.

Is that Marc Leishman? Funny thing is he aims left and hits a baby fade ;-)

I saw an article on Golf Digest's website (http://www.golfdigest.com/golf-instruction/2014-06/sean-foley-the-secret-to-lower-scores) where Sean Foley talks about compressing the ball and I cringed after reading the thread on Compression vs Deformation.

To be fair, Foley (and the editor) aren't going to use a term that people aren't familiar with, there is a "common" understanding for what compression means. Good to know you know the difference though ;-)

And the first couple paragraphs have some pretty good info about Tiger and his approach shots.

To echo what Mike said, "compress" the ball is just the word people use. My initial joking with the other instructor was just that: joking around. He knows the proper term is deformation, and I use it where possible, but that's rarely with a student let alone in a mass market magazine (though I probably would try to get them to let me say "This will help you compress, or more accurately deform the ball more."

More from the same issue. What do they mean by "overspin"? I certainly hope they don't mean topspin.

I think that's what they're implying there. I suppose topspin would make judging distances difficult, but I don't have the slightest idea on how you could actually put topspin on a ball while still getting it airborne.

The only time I ever put top spin is when I literally "top" the ball.  At time, with the driver, it will actually start somewhat airborne, and then quickly dive to the ground.  Definitely not a shot I would call playable, and I certainly don't think it comes from swinging inside-out.
