Miura irons. Anyone familiar?

I heard about these recently and they look sweet. Made in Japan, forged, etc..

They have a MC-102 model that looks like the most forgiving of the bunch. Not sure how they would compare to my Callaway X20 Tours. Scared to order a set of irons beyond my skill level. Working on Nantucket so would be ordering online. Thought I would ask here if anyone was familiar with them.

If so, any reputable online dealers I can order from?

Anyone familiar with the Miura wedges? Many different types/grinds. Any suggestions on the wedges would be of great use to me as well. I usually use a 52, 56, and 60. Thanks for any comment.

Super high end irons that are somewhat well known as some of the best you can get. Katuhiro Miura has been rumored to being the one who made Tiger's irons when he first switched to Nike.

I think they are wonderful pieces or art. I've seen many sets but have never hit any. I believe Iacas now plays a set of Miura's now and would be a good person to ask how good they are.

I *think* that they have some sort of policy where they very much prefer that you get fit before ordering, which limits their online business.

I'm surprised, no - shocked! - that anyone who's an active member of any golf forum on the planet would not be familiar with the awesome mystical power of Miura brand and generally Miura forged irons.

Yeah, I guess they are quite popular. I don't read about equipment often, except on this forum a bit. Sounds like Miura makes nice stuff. Pricey though. Hoping to get some first hand observations on their irons/wedges. Problem is, folks are quick to recommend what they play. I am guilty of the same. It would be nice to hit some in person, but where I live it will be difficult. If I learn more about the clubs perhaps I will make a trip to a fitter that makes them. Mostly interested to hear if they would be harder to hit than my current irons. Honestly, they are as close to "players" irons as my ability will allow at this point. I still need the forgiveness of a cavity back.

Personally, I think if a person has consistently sound mechanics, they don't need that much forgiveness. Hitting the sweet spot isn't that hard. Hitting it while the path and clubface are on the proper swingplane (in all dimensions) isn't any harder with a players iron. Hitting out of short rough is easier with a smaller, more dense clubhead (imho) and that more than makes up for any forgiveness shortcomings (i.e. your scores will probably be about the same and may eventually be even better than ever imagined).

You make some good points and the point regarding hitting out of rough is one that makes compelte sense.

To piggyback on Sean Miller's point...

My iron play increased dramatically switching from GI irons. The offset and chunky sole messed me up more than I realized. I would try to hit some, though.

I have 2 sets of Miura irons. A set of Tournament Blades (which I would likely part with) and a set of 1957 Baby Blades. Shoot me a PM if you're interested in getting a name of a good dealer. I've been very happy with my club builder. Most any Miura dealer will be quite competent though.

I've been thrilled with Miura blades. Enough so that after I got my TB's, I sold my SB-1's (something I thought that I'd never do) and bought the 1957's. I liked the LE's so much that I haven't gamed the TB's since.

I play the older MB-5002 blades. Love em. I always try my buddies irons, and I think any club can do the job, but I first went with Miura because of the online information I found. Being in Japan, I can get them for great deals on Yahoo Japan auctions. Solid clubheads, beautiful in their simplicity, sweetspot like butter. Getting fitted or knowing your specs will go far in dialing in the sweetness that Miura irons can offer.
Also played the WMF-03 58-12 wedge. Solid with amazing feedback. Bounce contour was great for bunkers. A little too expensive for a wedge tho, IMHO.

Think twice before you do this. Right now you have a club mix that rocks, and switching to the M's might harm the Dan-brand you've established on Sand Trap. Just a thought, go with whatever works...

i nerver should have read this thread...now thinking about going to get fitted for a set of Miura's...i have issues with golf clubs!!

on serious note. i switched from X-20's to MP-57's this year and noticed right away that you have to hit the ball cleaner. i took a full step back for a good month or so. i worked with them on the range over and over...after about a month i found my ball strking much improved and the mizunos to be freakin awesome...that being said i don't believe you want to go from a GI to str8 blade but to keep the progression moving forward will only help your swing. i wasn't aware how sloppy my swing was at times while hitting the x-20's...just my 2 cents.

Hey Lefty, the funny thing about Miura is that, to me at least, the nicest non-blade club they make is only available in left handed.



For some reason, all their right handed cavity backs have quite a bit more offset and none are as clean looking. So, for once, this particular righty golfer is mooning over a club he can't get set up his way round!

Thanks for the replies. I am still wanting the 102's. Need to hit them first I guess.
