I did a spin class last night with my wife at the gym.Β  WOW!!!Β  It kicked my butt!Β  That class is tough. We are supposed to go back again tonight and I'm hoping it will be a little easier.Β  I have no doubts that you are ripping through some calories in this class.

Yeah, that's a great cardio workout.Β  I was working in the bike industry for many years and I've always preferred to get on my bike and get out side but if weather keeps me inside, spinning is great.Β  I do some running also but the bike is much better for your knees.

Yes and it kicked my arse...I was running at the time and I think I couldn't run that week. Β The spin girl was crazy..."Get that butt off the seat!"

I used to race bikes.Β  Spin classes are good workouts, but they tend not to spend enough time warming up.Β  the instructors are already warm and go full out from the start in the ones I have done.Β  You really should spend 15 minutes building slowly up in intensity before getting the heart rate up too high.

Yeah I've done them a bunch.Β  It really depends on the instructor.Β  At first I remember them being really hard but now theyΒ are a good workout, but not insane.

Cycling is so much harder if you push yourself orΒ my insane triathalon friend does.Β  The low gear on a road bike isn't that low and you get on aΒ big climb, man whips your butt.

There was a guy that tried it last week.Β  He is training for a triathalon as well.....kicked his butt!!Β  Our instructor warms us up pretty well..that and I got on the treadmill a few minutes before the class started. I liked it.Β  You can do what "YOU" need to do to get a good workout by adjusting the tension.Β  That's what I like.

I have done 1 spin class in my life 4 years ago. I am 100% confident that number will not increase, ever. Spin classes are torture!

Did some a while back but, as a cyclist, found them not comparable to a true bike workout.Β  Too short, too much standing, sitting, standing, sitting, etc.Β  But they are a good workout.

I used to do them a lot, the classes at my gym are not at a time that I can do them anymore. Β I enjoy having an instructor to push you, I find that I work much harder in these cases than I would on my own.

They are a far more intense work out than riding on the road. Β You have lights and intersections on the road, not in the class, you go the whole time! Β I have heard that a 1 hour spin class is equal to 1 1/2 hour on the road.

Just as a little update, I have been doing the class every week now for about 2-3 times per week.Β  I have gotten pretty good and I get more out of it than I did at first.Β  I really like this class. I have no ambitions of getting into cycling, as I am just doing it for the cardio, but it is great as far as I am concerned.

Love spinning!Β  Great cardio workout and can be altered to do more of a lower body "strength and power" activity.Β  I found it hard to keep going to classes at a gym with a 6-year-old that's into baseball. basketball and cub scouts.Β  So I shelled out $1300 for a Keiser M3 cycle to use in my home and couldn't be happier.Β  I usually spin 4x/week and do some yoga 2 days as well.Β  $1300 seems like a lot, but if you think about it... paying $30-$40/month for gym membership for three yearsΒ aboutΒ covers the cost of the bike.Β  I purchased some DVD's from spinning.comΒ for several types of workouts from intervals, power, and circuit.Β  One of the best investments I've made.

Roadies have to deal with bad drivers, traffic, other roadies, flats, loose dogs, a whole cornucopia of things, but I love the outdoors, even when it rains. Ice and snow is my limit. Spinning is great mind you, but the indoors part with no changing scenery, no wind, no sun, no birds chirping, that's a deal breaker for me. There's no spin equivalent of doing reps of a steep climb, I don't get the same cardio/burn. I like changing gears, making turns, manipulating around other people, bikes.
