I'm pretty sure you're not that stupid. It was far more than that. It's bad enough spitting so blatantly anywhere, but to do it knowing your fellow professionals have to put through it is totally unforgiveable.

If we're speaking on terms of what is and isn't unforgivable, the 2nd half of my post would be more unforgivable.

Again, is it wrong, yes.  Should others who do the same get as much flack as Tiger, yes.

Thanks for reminding me about Sergio's disgusting spit.  Yes, perhaps it was even more disgusting - but the two are in close proximity in the scale in my opinion.

Frankly I'm rather surprised that the european golf authorities showed the courage and integrity to levy the (unknown) fine.  But why shouldn't we know how much it is - just silly to keep it a secret imho.  Still, well done - it must have been painful.  Still I'm sure there were many in the public who were clamoring for it.

I was going to say this entire controversy was really juvenile and petty.  But then I remembered that it's the cool thing to be a tool and hate on Tiger Woods.........So yeah he should be arrested for public indecency!!!

Holding Tiger to a higher standard is over ever since the recent revealings of his behavior, appearance fees or not.  But that besides the point which is, if there is going to be an outlash on Tiger's spitting on the green, then others who do the same should also get the same punishment.  The act on it's own is distasteful on the green and anyone who does it should be reamed; not only Tiger Woods" as he's way to easy to "criticize" these days.

I just watched the video for the first time and I think this is all overblown. I'm not condoning what he did or even defending Tiger. But based on what I've read here I just assumed I was going to see a giant loogey dripping out of Tiger's mouth, strings hanging off, making a giant pile on the green that he then needed to use his putter to flatten it out. Look, spitting on the green is gross and shouldn't be done, period, but I think people are making way more out of this than is deserved. I think partly it's the reaction of the commentator. I'm pretty sure I could think of "lower" things than this. Again, I'm not defending it, I just think it's overblown.

Undisclosed amount...Whatever it is, Tiger will pay it. I think this should be a lesson to everyone out there who treats greens like they're ashtrays. I've seen (ON A PRIVATE COURSE) burn marks from people who HAD to put out their cigar on greens, cigarette butts, to something as simple as divots not being fixed. The green is the place that should get the "royal" treatment!!!

I do think fame and money got to Tiger. He thinks that he can STILL do whatever he wants and not get reprimanded for it. We all make mistakes, but he obviously hasn't learned his lesson.

What is juvenile (and gross) is spitting on the green the way TW did - same as it would be if anyone else did it (incl. Sergio).

Your suggestion of arresting him for public indecency is going a tad too far tho'.  Still, I'm glad you agree on the need for proper comportment on the dance floor.

Are you the "just leave Britney alone" guy?  Have you moved on to Tiger?

Come on now, would all of you Tiger haters really be saying the same things if it was Phil or Tom Watson or someone held in higher regard.... It's been done before and will continue to happen, as nasty as it may be. Tiger is who he is and it's time to accept it.... let the guy play golf, that's what it's really all about.

I'd be double pissed if it was Phil or Tom, cause their prior behavior has always been in sharp contrast.  I'm less surprised by Tiger, but it's just as unprofessional and gross as if anyone else had done it.  But we get it, you want us to leave Britney alone.

No, we shouldn't accept it. That's a ridiculous, fanboy like statement to make.

Yes.  Is that answer simple and comprehensible enough for you?

If not, I give up .....

p.s. another example of someone who thinks anyone who ever criticizes anything TW does is a "Tiger hater".

Nobody is going to change Tiger.

    • You're right.  Side note, and funny story, the only time I can remember hitting a shot O.B. on that hole for the second shot, it was a topped shot where I started near the O.B. marker.  I wonder if I'm not getting as good a shot as I could because I'm nervous about O.B., but I'm not hesitating to hit a 4W if I get a good lie.
    • Day 262 5-12 Got an early practice session in this morning. Arms off body was the main focus with getting chest through with speed, I did much better with wrist arching through the downswing.
    • Yea, developing a proper shot zone for that approach should would be helpful. If you are bringing OB into play more than you like, then it is either needs to be an accepted reward for the risk. If you hit 10 shots from that tee ball landing area. If like 1 ball goes OB, that could be outlier shots you need to discard. If more than that is creeping in, then it is probably not the correct shot.  Maybe it needs to be more nuanced. Maybe you hit more shots OB from the left side of the hole than right due to shot shape. If you hit it left to right, maybe being on the left side makes you aim further right, bringing in OB right. It could be an aiming issue.
    • Thank you, @saevel25.  First two points, definitely, and those are things I can do.  PGA Tour average being 3.0 from 100 yards in the rough (or 160 in the fairway, per ESC) is a great reminder that a 5 is a really good score on a par-5 and the occasional six isn't anything to be upset about, as long as I played it intelligently.   I'm playing in less than a week, and I checked the three par-5s against ShotScope's 5-handicap baseline.    My last par on two of them yielded a 0.23 stroke gain (each), while the last one had -0.07 on my last par (I wonder if ShotScope measures straight-line distance, because there's some slight bending going on). Hmmm, that last one, especially with between the ropes.  I think I'll go through my past rounds later today and see where I'm losing strokes there -- I would guess it's on my second shot, since that one makes me nervous because of O.B. left and right on the second shot.  Yet, I think I can hit a hybrid from my typical tee shot landing area and have a distance wedge into the green.
    • Goal 1) Keep the ball between the ropes. The ropes being where you have a full swing at the ball to advance it as far towards the green as possible. Not in trees, bunkers, hazards, long grass, OB, etc...  Goal 2) Advance the ball as far as possible towards the green with respect to your shot zone. Keep the ball in play, ideally in the fairway, but the rough is not terrible. Stay away from hazards, including bunkers. Ideally, you will in play with a short iron, distance wedge shot, pitch shot, or on the green. If this is the case, then think of it as having a par 3 that is the distance left on the par 5. If you are hitting a full swing short iron, then that is going to be difficult to get par than bogey. PGA Tour is 3.0 from the rough from 100 yards. This might be where fairway matters the most.  PGA Tour rough is tougher than what we usually play. If you get can this close to 50/50 for par/bogey than you will most likely end up more pars than bogies on par 5's. You would probably be better than 50/50 if you end up closer to the hole. This is where the advice would be, aim at the center of the green with full swing shots into par 5's.
