I just dont understand it. Especially when its just buddies playing together. In competition its deplorable and disgusting. But when you aren't even competing, that is just pathetic. How sad do you have to be to cheat on a scorecard that belongs to noone but you.

In the Ogio Kingpin bag:

Titleist 913 D2 9.5* w/ UST Mamiya ATTAS 3 80 w/ Harrison Shotmaker & Billy Bobs afternarket Hosel Adaptor (get this if you don't have it for your 913)
Wilson Staff Ci-11 4-GW (4I is out of the bag for a hybrid, PW and up were replaced by Edel Wedges)
TaylorMade RBZ 5 & 3 Fairway Woods

Cobra Baffler T-Rail 3 & 4 Hybrids

Edel Forged 48, 52, 56, 60, and 64* wedges (different wedges for different courses)

Seemore Si-4 Black Nickel Putter

I remember this one tournament a while back where this one dude pulled his drive way left into the dirt right behind a huge boulder. Well, he claimed it was a movable obstruction and got 10 of his friends to lift the boulder up and move it out his shot line. He went on to make the green, birdie the hole, and win the tournament. Incredible huh?

I was paired up with a guy this weekend who could really hit the ball a ton (and two guys who couldn't hit a barn).  He didn't always know where it was going, and a few times couldn't find it so he hit provisional balls or just dropped.  Unless competing, I never volunteer to correct someone else's "misinterpretation" of the rules.  On two holes I *know* he got at least 7's, after several hacks at the ball from a bunker and the rough that didn't get out.  He even threw his wedge clear across the green after one of them.  On most holes he didn't bother putting out and a few times when he did he missed the short ones (and then just raked them back).

He spent a lot of time talking about his usual scores, how he was club champion where he used to play, how he shot a 78 from the tips of a 7400 yard course, and how he's shot in the 70's every round this year.  Now, don't get me wrong, it's obvious he had some game.  He outdistanced me off the tee consistently by 40-50 yards.  He had one birdie all day, on the last hole: a beautifully played driver/3i to reach a long par-5 in two (and he very nearly made the eagle putt).  It was a really frustrating day playing with the other guys we were paired with, one of whom hadn't been on a course in 12 years and the other wasn't much better.  We spent a lot of time looking for balls in the rough (for all of us, but mostly the other two).  Twice we had to let groups play through, once on the third hole.  All of this really got under his skin and it showed in his game and his attitude.  I also really enjoyed meeting and playing with him, we seemed to enjoy each others company.

With all this in mind, it was quite a shock to me when he announced at the end of the round that he had shot a 75.  Now, I believe he was perfectly capable of shooting 75, but I honestly don't think he broke 90 that day.  The worst part is I'm not sure if he even realizes just how far off his true score really was.  Of course, this could explain how he *always* shoots in the 70's.

I usually don't care how people delude themselves, but I had a pretty hard fought 84 that day playing under the same conditions he did.  It irks me that a player with his talent doesn't have the appropriate respect for the game to simply accept a bad score.

In my  bag:

 Diablo Octane Tour 9.5, 18  -  6DT 19 (3I Hybrid) -

 Diablo Forged Irons 5-PW -  Tom Watson wedges 52,56,60 - 64 (generic)

 D.A.R.T. Belly Putter

 B330-RX Balls

I'd be willing to wager he carded his ESC instead of his gross score. I play with guys like that all the time, there's a bunch of them at the club my parents belong to. I've gotten some heat for trying to point out the difference between gross score and adjusted gross to guys that insist they can't card more than their handicap allows.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I knew of an individual who along with tees, ball marks, balls and gloves kept a small container of vaseline to aid in a straighter ball flight off of the tee.  This guy had a Daly-type swing which generated quite a bit of club head speed but the angle of the face at impact was not always square.  I had heard of this sneaky underhanded trick but never witnessed it, until this guy.

See you on the course.

Worst example I ever heard of someone cheating was on the PAT test to pass for the PGA of America to become a class A professional. The test requires you to play 2 rounds and shoot under a certain target score related to the course rating. Well, one group decided it would be a good idea in a one day PAT to go ahead and fill out the entire scorecard – for all 4 players in the group…all to be passing. The idea backfired when the PAT examiner rode by the group and asked to see their scorecards. BUSTED!!!

See you on the course.

It is somewhat hard to turn a 90 with just esc (unless your Kevin Na and card a 16).  Sounds like  keeping track of the score until the ball hits the fairway is probably this guys drug of choice.

I had a...very interesting round this past Sunday guys.

Played with my regular golf buddy and his father in law who apparently is a solid golfer.

Now I play to play to a 7.1 index and can break 80 if I play well. On Sunday we played a local course I had never broken 80 on.

As the round goes on, I notice some peculiar things from the wily old veteran. Any putt inside 6 feet is scooped up, OB counts as one stroke and you can drop your ball in the fairway (LOL). The funniest one was on the par 3 17th. Plays about 200 yards give or take.

The guy hit his tee shot way left in the woods and we all walk up to look for it. No ball found anywhere. He decides to just head to the 18th tee.

I finish out and walk up to him and curiously ask what he got there. "A bogey". I said wow! Thats amazing! and just shook my head. I doubt I'll be playing with him any time soon.

I ended up shooting my best round there ever at 77 and although I actually dusted the guy on damn near every hole, he came up with the best "81" I've ever seen.

    • I generally like par-3 courses and find it a darn shame that the last of them closed in my area during the pandemic. Part of it may have to do with the fact that I never have been very good with the longer clubs, so the short holes are a bit more my speed.  Being able to get in 18 holes in two hours was pretty convenient and, ironically, the lack of crowds made them peaceful places to be. Naturally, that's the same reason they no longer exist around here.  The second option sounds like a whole lot of no fun.
