I'll be content as long as it's a tight finish tomorrow.  If Rory just runs away, well, great because he seems like a nice guy, but I just don't find him interesting enough to watch to look forward to that.

I wouldn't write Tiger off yet, but I think his having a chance is contingent on Rory falling apart.  Rory's in as good a spot as you can reasonably ask for: all he needs is a competent round tomorrow and he'll be hard to catch.  However, if Rory does post a par or worse round, Tiger only needs a very good round, not an unbelievably good one.  If Rory shoots a 73 and Tiger finds another 66, well there you go.  There are 9 par-or-higher rounds among the guys in the top 10 this week, so it's not that unlikely that one ends up on Rory's card.

Still, I wouldn't put money on Tiger, no question it's a very tall order.  We all know he's capable of golf miracles, but it's not all in his hands.  He'll need help from the top of the leaderboard even if he plays in his old form.

Gee I think Cabrera is the dark horse going into the final round, this guy always seems to prop up in majors and is nowhere to be seen in regular events! I'd like to see Rory win it though, or even Jason Day or maybe Schwartzel as long as the final round is close and not a runaway win.

Remember, a lot of people thought Dustin Johnson was too cool to fold under the pressure at last year's US Open. And he actually had a tour win under his belt already. His lead was only 3 though, right? I don't remember. I, for one, feel it will be very interesting down to the finish. Brandon

Is there no online coverage today? If so that is a shame, I really enjoyed watching on there.  Limited commercials and I even liked the broadcasters better.

Yeah, that was a real mess. He led by 3 shots (-6) on McDowell, shot 11 over for a total 5 over par. McDowell was at 3 under, shot 3 over and won at even par.

I would not put all my savings on Rory winning, he's messed up from time to time in single rounds. I think he'll win it though.

My prediction (which may be more wishful thinking than anything else, is that KJ Choi breaks through. I'm not sure why, but I like rooting for that guy. It appears Rory has been pretty reliant on his driver this week. If he has any jitters today, I think we'll notice them off the tee with the driver. If he hits fairways today, he's going to win. And if anybody is going to go low to catch him, they better make their move on the front 9. Brandon

I think it was Jack said to Rory that he had more tournaments handed to him than he went out and straight out won. Slow and steady will be the name of the game for Rory. Even if someone presses him to share the lead. I think fairways and greens will be key. Ever hole that passes adds more pressure to the field. Hot streaks only take you so far before the odds catch up to you and that ugly bogey creeps in. (in general) 72 I say gives him a 75% chance of winning. The odds just get better if he can go under. Just don't back up under pressure when that player does make a run at you.

Gonna be fun!!

And with that chip and Rory's bogey, it's only a 2-stroke lead after 1 hole. And Rory is in the fairway bunker at the par 5 second hole with no gaurantees of a birdie opportunity. Brandon

Soo many great golfers on the top of the leaderboard, Mcilroy looking shaky to start. Today is gonna be exciting!

If this round continues the way it seems to be, Rory will be glad he's 21.  Dustin Johnson and Nick Watney can take him out and explain how to recover after such an event, although I'm sure Rory is plenty capable himself.

Of course, plenty of golf to be played.

Tigers got to play the front 3-4 under if he wants to have a chance.  Seems like everyone is playing the back better than the front this year.

Looking at the leaderboard after Tiger's fourth birdie of the day, there are now 8 people within three strokes of the lead (including the leaders) with at least 11 holes left for all of them. Hopefully this will be an exciting day. Brandon

    • Day 140 - 2025-02-17 Got to GE pretty early. Few lessons and then a GEARS visit with a guy. Pelvis work, go figure. Put down two mats later with a carpet stay thing, and hit some balls before heading home.

    • If you own a Stack radar (for now, it's limited to Stack radar only), and want to work on your wedge game… it turns out that wedge distances are 99% correlated to ball speed. So, with a small radar, you can practice your wedge game easily in a gamified way.
    • Day 11: 2/16/2025 Rince and Repeat: Just like yesterday I spent several 5-10 minute sessions working on what I learned on Friday.
    • Quick update. So, I got the PXG Secret Weapon and I have to say I like it... mostly. (see below) I spent some time with it on the range and I even gathered some data in doors. I'm not going to post data yet, as my swing is still a bit of a work in progress and I'd like to gather some more data after I settle down a little bit more. But here's my review.  First as a driver replacement. ... IMO it is not a replacement, it's clearly more of a supplement... for me anyway. Not long enough to really replace the driver. For me it's about 20 yards short of my driver. It is longer than my 30-wood off the tee. (15 yards-ish) I will say it is easier to hit off the tee than my 3-wood. I get some of my best shots teeing it low, but I also get some of my worst. If I tee it about a full inch off the ground I get very consistent shots. Super repeatable. Amazingly repeatable even with my messy swing. Off the tee, I find it draw biased just a bit. You can tinker with the set up if that isn't your personal cup of tea.  As a 3-wood replacement. For me it's about perfect. It's longer than my 3-wood off the deck (my data showed 10 yards longer) and it has a gentle fade to it, which I love. You do need a clean lie, but I never hit my 3-wood off anything but a clean lie anyway. I found it interesting that I hit a gentle fade off the deck and a slight draw off a tee. I'm sure that's not uncommon. Again, you can tinker with the set up to optimize that if you wanted to... I don't want to.  It's clearly a lot longer than my 3-wood off the tee. Easier to hit off the tee than my 3 wood, and off the deck it's also longer. So, it's a no-brainer 3-wood replacement for me. I will say that over the years I've learned to use my 3-wood for this low-flying-100-yard-punch-out-from-under-a-tree shot.  I'll have to see if the Secret Weapon can handle that duty. But it's going in the bag to replace the 3-wood.  I also turned my 5-wood down from 19 degrees to 17 degrees. ... Incidentally my 3-wood had been 16 degrees. I used to always hit my 5 wood and my hybrid about the same distance. This adjustment helps my gapping a bit at the top of the bag. I can clearly hit my 5-wood farther than my hybrid now.  Overall on the PXG Secret Weapon. The good: It's clearly longer and easier to hit off the tee than my 3-wood. It's a bit longer off the deck than my 3-wood.  It's super forgiving... surprisingly so.  It's uber adjustable. ... Although I do suggest getting fit for it. That will save you having to (or wanting to) buy a weight kit just to try out the infinite number of set ups. The headcover is super cool.  The maybe not so good: Shots out of the middle sound great. Shots off the heal sound great. Shots off the toe sound ... what's the work... clangy? It's very forgiving off the toe and the heal. The flight and the distance are incredibly consistent. But the sound off the toe isn't great.  For me I tend to draw it off the tee and fade it off the deck. You can set it up to be biased either way, but in my hands I think if I set up a draw off the deck, that might induce a duck hook off the tee. ... In fairness that could also be where my swing is at right now.  It's pretty spendy. ... If I really stop and think about it, I paid $450 for a new 3-wood. Granted it's a better performing 3-wood. But for me it's really a 3-wood replacement.
