I went to Walmart a couple days ago with the intention of getting some coffee creamer and a Blu-ray movie to test out my new tv/Blu-ray player then heading back out the door.
That didn't happen.
I stopped by the clearance aisle and a pile of green boxes caught my eye.
There were 19 sleeves of Top Flite Gamer V2 golf balls with a $2.00 sticker on them and 4 with a $4.00 sticker on them.
So I got the 19 $2.00 sleeves, I doubt they would have marked the other four down to $2.00 to match the others.
So I got almost $100 worth of golf balls for $38. I couldn't turn them down.

Top Flite Gamer V2 is probably the ball I'm going to switch after I run out of my beloved Noodle+ Easy Distance

It got great marks in the new Golf Digest Hot List...

I'm a high handicap golfer and I can make this ball stop within a couple inches of where it lands when I hit a flop shot with my 62º lob wedge. I would imagine that if I were a better golfer then I could actually get it to run back a little when it lands.

I love this ball your so lucky!!

I got 2 sleeves of them for 5$ before my first round of the year off a tip from the guy in the proshop. I was shocked when my ball was stopping on all of the greens I was hitting and that it seemed get almost tour ball distance.

Im looking into finding a good deal online to try and buy enough of em to last me the year now. You lucky SOB

I really can't think of a ball that I've played that doesn't look beat up after 9 holes.  Maybe a Titleist DT, but the Feel and Gamer V2 perform much, much better.

For some reason I cant keep these balls in my bag, they seem to spew off the course... Other balls with high spin, generally no problem, maybe a coincidence?

Sounds like my adventures with the Wilson FG Tour. I lost the full dozen in 2 or 3 rounds. Hit some great shots and put up some terrible scores. Disappointing.

I think the Gamer V2 has a serious underground following here at ST. There are many threads attesting to it's performance and value of which I have shared my positive experiences. It has been described as the "poor man's pro v".

The Gamer is a great ball for the price.  You arent going to find many balls in that price range that compare to it.

I've played a couple rounds with these now, and I have to say I'm very impressed.  For a bit cheaper than the Bridgestone e(5,6,7) I'd been playing with, these are just great.  It helps that I had my best day ever with the driver yesterday, hitting 6 solid drives out of the 6 holes I used the driver on.  I'm sure that most of that was the swing being on, but the ball flight was consistently great.  With e5 or e6, if I hit it straight, it's usually either a low piercing drive or a pop-fly.  Yesterday everything was a low launch that kept rising, which I think means getting the proper amount of backspin.  No doubt the ball contributed to that somewhat.

For putting and chipping, the feel is not quite as good to me as the Bridgestones, but it's not bad.  Certainly I can get used to it, and the results were good.  The balls do seem to show scuffs and discoloration faster than a lot of other balls.  The GolfDotz I stuck on also seemed to wear away more quickly, but I've only used a couple Gamer V2s, so the sample size is small.  It could well be that I happened to catch it on the face for a full wedge and peeled it off that way.

Really the only thing I dislike is that they feel tacky to the touch when new.  Obviously that's a minute complaint.  I think I'll be using these guys for a while.

I have played a dozen of the V2 and haven't had that issue.  The originals were pretty bad, but the V2's were much better IMO.

I'm a single digit handi and I use them for pratice rounds and play the penta or Srixon for money rounds.  That's a great ball and I'm mad as hell they didn't have a deal like that here in Maryland.   WHAT A STEAL-ENJOY!

I have finally been able to play the Gamer v2 under drier conditions the last few weeks and am liking it even better.  I first tried it in the early fall but only got a couple of rounds before things became soggy for 6+ months.  Until things really firm up, I will continue to use it as it is long off the driver and holds the greens plenty at the moment.  Shot a 77 today using the same Gamer all round and it will be fine to start the next round.  Can't praise this ball enough and the price just makes it even better; doesn't hurt that I was able to pick up 2dz for $18 after the first of the year.

I am down to two sleeves of my Slazenger RDX Tour balls, and will be switching to the Gamer.v2s I have bought.

By accident, I also got a dozen of the original Gamers, and know where a few more boxes are. What is the performance difference between the originals and the Gamer.v2?

It's like the performance difference between regular Subaru Impreza one with the body removed and replaced by blue crepe paper.

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
