I recently purchased a set of callway x24's from Golfetail. I called Callaway to authenticate the serial number and they told me it was not in their system. I called golfetail and they told me that they had picked up a pallet from calaway and that they forgot to scan them. The weird thing is that I was doing a little research on this website (thesandtrap) and there was a story on here that happened to a pallet of x20's and it was the same thing, they forgot to scan the clubs. So what does everyone think? Are they that careless where they have done this twice in the last 6 months( the story I was refering to earlier was in oct of 2010) Or is it possible they are selling fakes. Has anyone ever bought anything from them and absolutly made sure they were a real club?  All of there review off ebay are pretty positive and they have good feedback. Thanks for any help.

I bought my 52 degree wedge from them, and it works about as well as the 56 degree in the same model I got from a GolfSmith.  I also got a belt from them that works fine.

I would send them back and tell them you want a set that IS in Callaway's system...

I have used this online store for a number of purchases (apparel and accessories), and have had no issue.  If you are not comfortable, then let them know how it needs to be corrected.  If they don't oblige, then return the sticks.

I agree with this too... I think that they are just careless though... I've bought from there once before and it was a good experience.

I've bought a few things from them and had no issues. My J36's are from them and I had them verified by Bridgestone, but I understand your concern. Good luck with your purchase.

I would think that if Callaway built a set of clubs and shipped them, they would have a record of the serial # and where they went.  The store purchasing clubs shouldn't have to verify that.    It seems that it shouldn't be up to the store to verify what Callawat sent out.  Callaway should know if that set of clubs was sent out from there operation, regardless of a store 'not scanning them in'.

Unless your saying that Callaway didn't input the serial number before they went out?  In which case, how stupid could they be?

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I guess if the store won't take the clubs back and send you an authentic Callaway set I would threaten to advise the State Attorney General in your state.  If Callaway has told you that the SN isn't theirs I would insist on a set that is or money back.

This is the the letter I recieved from Chris witham from Callaway.

Hi Mr. Becker!

I’m sorry for the issue you’re having here. I wish I had a more in depth answer for you but the bottom line is, occasionally some of our clubs do not get scanned on their way out and therefore will not be in our system if someone calls to check on them. It happens on a small % of clubs but when you factor in the quantity we ship it can be quite a few that this could happen on.

Mr Becker, I completely understand your concern and commend your research on this. About 70% of our clubs that are online that are not from an authorized retailer are counterfeit so it’s good to becareful. You are how ever in great hands with Mike and Golfetail. They are definitely authorized retailers and a great account of ours so no need to worry about anything you purchase from them. If you have any further questions please let me know.

I would charge it back on my credit card and tell them to send me a free return box unless they can get Callaway to confirm club is legitimate. No reputable firm is that sloppy, it makes me doubt the club is authentic as well.

Definitely seems like some shady business but after that letter from Callaway you would think they would be authentic...

I'd still mail them back though...you truly NEVER know and if you spent a lot of money it might always be in the back of your head that you got ripped off

I suspect the letter from Callaway would be enough for me in that situation.

Ask Callaway, since they are endorsing golfetail as a reseller, if they will take them back for full refund or exchange if it turns out they are fake.  If they agree, then I see no reason for concern.

I should point out that the letter from Callaway was through GolfEtail. Mike from golfEtail is the one who e-mailed them frist and had Chris e-mail me. When I first called Callaway the first time to get them authenticated, the lady who I spoke to who told me the clubs were not in their system also told me that I should buy Callaway clubs from an authorized deal. I don't know if she meant that GolfEtail is not an authorized dealer or if she didn't know. I have e-mailed Callaway to see if Chris Witham does indeed work for them. I just don't know what to think. I had a 7 day money back, but after going through all of this to see if they are fakes... well the 7 days are already up. Looks like I might be stuck with them whether they are real or not. Just sucks saving up enough money for my first nice set of golf clubs I have ever purchased and now it looks like they might be fakes.

If they turn out to be fakes, I would still contact both GolfEtail and Callaway.  A reputable seller who accidentally sells fakes might good on it, even after the return policy is expired.  And I'm sure Callaway would love to know if you got fakes from an authorized retailer.

Just would like to say thanks for everyone who chimmed in to help. Very much appreciated. Hopefully will know something by Monday. No matter what happens I am taking my clubs to the cities to have Golf Galaxy look at them and have them take a couple of the grips off to make sure there is a serial number under them. Thanks again.
