Hi guys!

I have been to a NBA game between NJ Nets and Toronto Raptors....

I do not know you guys, but I really miss the Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Isiah Thomas, etc. etc. era.

What's your opinion on this?

To me the NBA is no fun to watch. I used (well, when I lived in Alexandria) to get mini-season tickets (usually about 13 games) to see the Bullets & later the Wizards. But, I've grown tired of the NBA stlye of basketball. And how much tickets are now.

I think it's still fun to watch live, we go to PHX and LA couple times a year to catch games. Also will be attending the NBA All-Star game in a couple of weeks. But I can't stand to watch it on TV any more.

I think that I have been watching more NBA this year for 1 reason and 1 reason only, the amazing game winning streaks that the suns and mavs have put on. Other than that I think it is boring because when youw atch a team like the Lakers, I just can't stand Kobe b/c in my opinion he is a ball hog and should not start over Nash in the NBA all star game...what ajoke...oh hi guys im back

Not for a Celtics fan. I grew up during the Bird, Parish, McHale era and remember as a very young fan Havilichek, Cowans etc. Poor Red must be rolling in his grave right now . . .

The NBA used to be my favorite sport to watch. I wouldn't miss any games that were televised on TNT, TBS, NBC, etc. I loved it.

The older I get, however, the more I start to hate the NBA. It's all about the individuals now, and I don't care for that. If I want to watch an individual sport, I'll watch golf or tennis, and we all know I do too much of that already.

I love college sports, but I have lost my interest in most professional sports. I still watch a little NFL and MLB, but not as much as I used to.

I really don't care for the NBA. The only team I like to watch is the Suns because of their run and gun offense and Hall of Fame point guard Steve Nash. I'm a huge Duke fan though, so I devote all of my basketball time to either playing or watching NCAA.

Used to be an avid fan of the NBA watched all the games but now never, pretty much stopped when Jordan left as I don't like Kobe and every player is decked out in tattoos, not my style. There is a lot missing, including a lot of fans if this thread is any indication. OH . . . and the Golden State Warriors, my team will never make the playoffs again, so what's to watch?

I miss that era myself-being from Boston I was spoiled watching Bird, McHale, Parrish and the group night after night-don't think we will ever see the league get back to that classic style of play again.

I was reading the other day that NBA TV ratings have declined 40% in the last 10 years. Personally I think they have lost contact with their audience. I used to watch in the Jordan era but since have lost interest. Seems like everytime I turn it on all it is is a bunch of thugs that have taken over the league. IMHO gone are the days of Jordan, Magic, Kareem, Bird, and Sir Charles. Instead it is a league with no class full of players like Kobe, Sprewell, and Iverson.

The NBA is a circus. its great to watch just to see what moronic actions are to come from the next player. to hear an nba superstar say he hates gay people is amazing (tim hardaway). we have an individual claiming to hate a whole group of people simply because of sexual preferance. amazing coming from a black person who i am sure has been judged and suppressed most of his life because of skin color. i got one word for everyone..."LOVE" how can we hate people we dont even know. its out of control. the fights (nuggets and knicks, pacers and pistons), the grabbing coaches by the neck and threatening to kill them (latrell sprewell to p.j. carlisimo), the shootings in clubs ( stephen jackson), the hate. PURELY DISGUSTING to pay these thugs so much money!

I quit watching when Jordan, Bird and Magic all retired. The game today is a poor product as it's just one guy going one-on-one and the rest standing around. I would rather watch tennis...

Basketball is by far my least favorite sport. I'd watch college football before I'd watch any sort of basketball. And seriously, women's college basketball? I'd rather be the meat in a Phil Mickelson/John Daly hug sandwich - naked - than watch women's college basketball.

I think the last game I watched, the score was 12-10 at halftime. And you wish I was kidding!

I used to play High School ball back in the day, and I used to watch as much televised basketball as I could - Toughie being from Canada and all. This was about 6 years ago. These days I have outgrown the sport, and I try to watch as many tour events as I can Thursday to Sunday (who would have thought?).

But I still do think the NBA is great to watch (STEVE NASH VICTORIA WHAT! haha). And with NCAA's March Madness coming up soon, there will definately be some exciting games to watch.

I think this time of year is especially hard for the NBA rating, with March Madness being huge, not many people want to watch a college game then turn on a NBA game, it's too much basketball.

    • Nah, man. People have been testing clubs like this for decades at this point. Even 35 years. @M2R, are you AskGolfNut? If you're not, you seem to have fully bought into the cult or something. So many links to so many videos… Here's an issue, too: - A drop of 0.06 is a drop with a 90 MPH 7I having a ball speed of 117 and dropping it to 111.6, which is going to be nearly 15 yards, which is far more than what a "3% distance loss" indicates (and is even more than a 4.6% distance loss). - You're okay using a percentage with small numbers and saying "they're close" and "1.3 to 1.24 is only 4.6%," but then you excuse the massive 53% difference that going from 3% to 4.6% represents. That's a hell of an error! - That guy in the Elite video is swinging his 7I at 70 MPH. C'mon. My 5' tall daughter swings hers faster than that.
    • Yea but that is sort of my quandary, I sometimes see posts where people causally say this club is more forgiving, a little more forgiving, less forgiving, ad nauseum. But what the heck are they really quantifying? The proclamation of something as fact is not authoritative, even less so as I don't know what the basis for that statement is. For my entire golfing experience, I thought of forgiveness as how much distance front to back is lost hitting the face in non-optimal locations. Anything right or left is on me and delivery issues. But I also have to clarify that my experience is only with irons, I never got to the point of having any confidence or consistency with anything longer. I feel that is rather the point, as much as possible, to quantify the losses by trying to eliminate all the variables except the one you want to investigate. Or, I feel like we agree. Compared to the variables introduced by a golfer's delivery and the variables introduced by lie conditions, the losses from missing the optimal strike location might be so small as to almost be noise over a larger area than a pea.  In which case it seems that your objection is that the 0-3% area is being depicted as too large. Which I will address below. For statements that is absurd and true 100% sweet spot is tiny for all clubs. You will need to provide some objective data to back that up and also define what true 100% sweet spot is. If you mean the area where there are 0 losses, then yes. While true, I do not feel like a not practical or useful definition for what I would like to know. For strikes on irons away from the optimal location "in measurable and quantifiable results how many yards, or feet, does that translate into?"   In my opinion it ok to be dubious but I feel like we need people attempting this sort of data driven investigation. Even if they are wrong in some things at least they are moving the discussion forward. And he has been changing the maps and the way data is interpreted along the way. So, he admits to some of the ideas he started with as being wrong. It is not like we all have not been in that situation 😄 And in any case to proceed forward I feel will require supporting or refuting data. To which as I stated above, I do not have any experience in drivers so I cannot comment on that. But I would like to comment on irons as far as these heat maps. In a video by Elite Performance Golf Studios - The TRUTH About Forgiveness! Game Improvement vs Blade vs Players Distance SLOW SWING SPEED! and going back to ~12:50 will show the reference data for the Pro 241. I can use that to check AskGolfNut's heat map for the Pro 241: a 16mm heel, 5mm low produced a loss of efficiency from 1.3 down to 1.24 or ~4.6%. Looking at AskGolfNut's heatmap it predicts a loss of 3%. Is that good or bad? I do not know but given the possible variations I am going to say it is ok. That location is very close to where the head map goes to 4%, these are very small numbers, and rounding could be playing some part. But for sure I am going to say it is not absurd. Looking at one data point is absurd, but I am not going to spend time on more because IME people who are interested will do their own research and those not interested cannot be persuaded by any amount of data. However, the overall conclusion that I got from that video was that between the three clubs there is a difference in distance forgiveness, but it is not very much. Without some robot testing or something similar the human element in the testing makes it difficult to say is it 1 yard, or 2, or 3?
