It's been brought to my attention that there was one player who meets my "exempt players from countries that haven't won an Open" metric that I forgot to mention by name. He has played in each of the last four championships held at Royal St. George's, and has collected finishes of second, third, and third there previously. As the defending Senior Open champion, he was automatically entered into this year's tournament: he is none other than Bernhard Langer. We've had over-50 players lead on Sunday two of the last three years; perhaps Langer can find lightning in a bottle this week.

All this way and I haven't seen anyone pick Bo Van Pelt? He's my pick. Also, can anyone tell me why the R&A; doesn't pair the British Amateur champion with the reigning Open Champion?

The players were just playing from the back tees. They will have the actual tees more forward if there's wind.

Booooo. Boring.

I thought they were just gonna change the tee times to adjust for the wind, not change tees.

What are the yardage differences between tees I wonder

30+ mph winds expected in the morning though mid-afternoon, when they begin to die down......Friday morning calls for 8-10 mph winds, increasing in the afternoon to upwards of 20 mph.

The late afternoon Thursday/Friday morning tee times look have have a huge edge weather-wise.......the list includes Westwood, Strcker, Schwartzel, PMick, Kaymer, OOSty, Furyk, Day, Watson, Scott, Rose,....could play a very important part this year.

get ready for a smorgasbord of "trap draws" and a host of other meaningless platitudes. if the wind is kicking high, my pick is jb holmes. if the wind is not a factor, i'm going with rory.

Oh, for God's sake, give Matteo a break. His driving distance is almost identical to Luke Donald's, and it isn't hurting either of them these days.

Pretty sure I'm one of his biggest fans, If anyone should give someone a break it's you. You are the most opinionated person on this board. I was just stating this course is very long, it doesn't suit his game. Not saying he won't win, but it won't be easy.

And now for an extremely early tournament update: Four of the twenty-four players on the course are under par. Calcavecchia, Havret, Jacobson, and Bjorn are tied for the lead at 1-under.

    • Thanks but honestly… I don't know any other way. I don't mind being wrong so long as I know where to go from there. I don't like being wrong — I'd love to get things right (which is different than "being right"). I recommend grabbing a furniture slider or a paper plate or something, and doing something like this: First, make a swing where you let your trail foot swing out as you turn, then twist that foot back in. From DL and FO, it'll look like this: Then, during a regular backswing, try to twist your foot in slightly (demonstrated in the left image): You'll notice a crease along the trail side of your hip, your pelvis will "fold" into that thigh (internal rotation of the hip joint), and your "bits" will be squished a little between your pelvis and your thigh. Ben Hogan said once: "At the top of the back swing the groin muscle on the inside of your rt [sic] leg near your right nut will tighten," Hogan wrote. "This subtle feeling of tightness there tells you that you have made the correct move back from the ball." I don't know about that, but you will probably feel something down around that area.
    • Yep. I think it will start to feel even more athletic when we start on the downswing stuff later.  I know, it's just I want to be younger so I have more time to enjoy the changes. 🙂
    • I need to drop a couple of stone. 🙂 😛    Yep. Yeah, but in the end, it feels more athletic, like you're actually using your legs, yeah? As you know… we use the best available info we have. Like others, I was fooled a little by 2D images for awhile (moving or still). Unlike others, I've learned and grown and moved on since then, while they're still looking at their images (often from lousy camera angles).
    • Day 12 - 2025-12-31 Limited time today, and heavy rains here. 5-10 minutes of mirror work for full swing, working on trail side.
    • Day 2, 12/31/25.  Similar to yesterday (rainy, no surprise), I hit primarily 6-iron full swings with the same focus;  I also hit some chips (about 1/8 swing) with the 54.  About two dozen full swings and an equal number of short shots.  All of this was indoors, off a mat, into a net, real balls.
