Acer (Hireko) Mantara XL w/ YS-6, 46" or a Dynacraft Avatar w/ UST V2, 48"..... including the shafts, cost less than $250 for both, shafts spine aligned and customized. There are very nice brand name clubs, but I like to tinker, and I get to build 'em the way I like 'em, and I hit the component clubs just as well.

Ive owned the MX-500, MX-560, MP-600 and currently the MP-630 as well are demoing the MX-700 and JPX-800 and Id rate them as being just as good as any TM, Titleist or Callaway driver.

ping G10, 10.5 degrees, with about 8 strips of lead tape on the back to add to the swing weight.

For me I'd never played a driver and was using a Yonex Nanospeed 3i 3 wood and a TM Burner Superfast 4 hybrid. I then got fit for a driver and tried a few out but the Mizuno was something seriously special for me. I then got fit for the 3W and loved that too so I bought the 3H as well, sold the Yonex and now have a "spare" TM Burner Superfast 4H I'm debating about selling.

I'm actually so impressed with Mizuno I've even toyed with trading in my Yonex VMS irons for a set of MP-59's; it's solely finance preventing me (don't want to rack up a credit card bill)

Right now a Ping G15 10.5* that I reshafted with an Aldila NV stiff shaft. Much better than the stock Ping shaft IMO. Also have an R9 460 as my back-up, which is also a great club. All set for a while.

In my Sun Mountain 14 Way Stand Bag:

Driver - Ping G30 10.5* : Fairway - Ping G30 18* : Hybrids - Titleist 915H 21* & 915 H 24* : Irons - Mizuno JPX 850 Forged 5 - GW : Wedges, Vokey 54.14, Vokey 58.12 : Putter - Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport 2 or Ping Craz-E-R  : Ball - Bridgestone B330RX, Cart - Cliqgear 3.5

I mostly play a Maltby KE4 V with the KE4 V stiff graphite, but I also have an Integra Quadratic with CER 75 stiff graphite. Length for both is 44.5" based on my fitting.

Driver - Cobra Amp Cell/Maltby KE4 V 10.5

FW - Maltby KE4 ST-F 3W

Hybrids - Cobra T-Rail+ 3H and 4H

Irons - Maltby KE4 SS1 4-GW

SW - Cleveland CG16 56*

Putter - Nike Method Core MC02W/Bobby Grace AMG Triumph

I like the Callaway drivers.

Current one is a bit old - the HyperX Tour model from 2008 - but it still works quite well. 10.5* loft, shafted with the R-flex Fuji E360 (midKick and low-mid torque).

I got it in November 2008 - it won out in competition on the launch monitor against five other drivers, mainly Cleveland HiBore and Ping.

I have tried some new drivers - Callaway RazR X Tour and Diablo / TM Burner 2.0 / Nike VR Pro... and HyperX T still holds its own.

RazR X Tour and TM Burner 2.0 comparable, but Diablo and VR Pro  not as good for me. Hit a TM Burner 2.0 in 10.5* loft, but it took off like a 5-iron. Burner with a 9.5* loft might be better, if someone sent me a gift card.

My driving ability is tied closely to getting in better shape. I need more back flexibility so I don't lose spine angle on downswing - my TPI workout targets this.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Just picked up a Ping G20 10.5 with the TFC Tour X-Stiff shaft.   Went through just about every head and shaft combo.  The X stiff is was the only shaft that brought my spin down right around 3k.   The 9.5 degree had my launch angle right around 9.  So we both thought the 10.5 would work out well as far as getting the launch up a bit.  So far only 9 holes with it, 5 fairways hit.  So pretty happy with it so far.

Cobra S2 but I cannot hit it worth a damn because of a terrible slice.  It is the only club I slice which is frustrating considering my 3w has the same swing plane and goes dead straight or has a slight fade.

Always changing:

Driver: Cobra S2/Nike VR Pro 10.5º

Irons: Callaway X-20 Tour 4-9i

Hybrid: Titleist 910H 19º & 21º

Wood: TaylorMade R11 3w

Putter: Odyssey White Hot

Wedges: Titleist Vokeys - 48º, 54º, 62º

First round: February 2011

    • Day 129: 5/4/24 Stack training but could not certify my warmup speed. Dealing with a pulled neck muscle. Chips and pitches at a local course for about 15 minutes.
    • Typically less than 50. I find this can be affected by the "CART" signs on a given course. I don't like taking my rangefinder out of the cart and carrying it around to the green. I am very fearful I will leave it somewhere.
    • First ever holed out greenside bunker shot! It's crazy it took this long to finally get one during a round, but the cold streak is officially over. Hole 6 on the Palmer Course at PGAN. I hit my driver like 225 into a really stiff wind, then worm burned a hybrid into the bunker. I was about I dunno, 40-45 feet away. Birdie! Let's go! The red Xs the approximate location of each shot.  Really fun!!
    • Day 23: Rained all day, so no ball hitting. Worked indoors on top of the backswing feel, and also putted around the living room working on bead.
    • Played Four Oaks in Dracut today going back to the 2 man scramble match play format. My brother and I shot a team 81 winning 3 and 2. Had so many good shots today using a more centered turn. Seems to have really iginited my golf game. We'll see if I can keep it going.
