As the title says really what do you play with and what do you think of it? what would you change? i always value the opinions of other golfers more than the manafactures so this thread may actually help people out when making choices, i use:

Driver: Callaway FTi 10 degree, stiff, neutral

3 Wood (ocassionally): Taylormade R7 TP, Stiff NV green

Rescue: Taylormade TP 14 degree, X100 Steel shaft

Irons: 3-PW Srixon pro 100 blades, X100 steel shafts

Wedges: Callaway vintage 52 and 60

Putter: Odyssey Black series no 2

Ball: ProV1X

personally im very happy with my bag other than the wedges. Having had vokeys before these callaways feel so so heavy in my hands, that said they do stop very fast. The only other thing i want to do is bridge the gap between my rescue club and 3 iron as its around a 40yrd difference!

Let me ask you this, how often do you get a yardage stuck between your 3-iron and your fairway wood. With the stiff shaft i presume you hit the ball at least 250 yards off the tee. So unless your faced with what, 210-220 yards, so anything golf holes of 460-500 yards. I mean, do you want to have that one club incase of a par 5. If your good with your wedges, just lay up.

i think its the whole 'macho' 200yrd+ approach shot. I simply dont have the tools/ ability to do it consistently but then again not all tour pros do either . . . ps 9 times out of ten i would lay up but it would be nice to have the shot at least available

You can see most of my bag in my signature. The shafts are as follows:

G15 - Mistubishi Rayon JAVLNFX V6 Stiff

Dymo 3W - Stock Nike Branded UST Stiff

5W - really soft steel shaft of unknown brand

Irons - Dynamic Gold S300

Wedges - Dynamic Gold S200

I no longer have the 60 degree wedge. I'm currently on the hunt for something to take its place. I've been satisfied with the Vokeys, but that's it. Just satisfied. I'm really looking for some wedges that I'm elated with. The search goes on...

I really HATE my fairway woods. The Nike Dymo 3 wood is least used club in my bag. I just really, really don't like that club. I can't hit it consistently at all. If I could get somebody to trade me any sort of decent fairway club for it, I'd let it go in a heartbeat. The 5 wood is just an old one I had from a set back in high school. I never use it much now and I didn't really then either. The shaft is too soft for me and, again, I can't hit it consistently. I'd like to replace it with a 2i, as I'm much more consistent with irons from the deck.

I love the irons. The only thing I want to change about them is the grips. The stock M-21 grips just don't really do it for me. I'm planning on fitting them with a set of Golf Pride New Decade grips very soon.

I haven't actually gamed the Bimini yet, so I can't comment too much on it. I think I'm really going to love it, though. It replaced an old center shaft Odyssey White Hot #2. That putter was solid for me for years. I can't really complain about it at all, but I can't really dote on it either.

my bag consists of

ben sayers c-300 driver

nike sq machspeed 3 hybrid

nike vr full cavity irons 4-pw

nike sv 56* wedge

nike method 004 putter

titlest nxt tour ball

driver needs to be changed but untill i can hit it strait with a little consistency its staying put, and then i will shell out for a new one

irons i struggle with the 4-6 cant hit them at all hence why i got the hybrid which i can hit but get over confident and try to kill the ball which messes me up, but the short iron im love i got good contoll and distance with them, 7iron is my random iron i can hit it sweet then i duff a few with it lol

wedge im happy with but im think of getting a 60* just for more options

method i only tried in the shop and loved it, didnt take me long to realise i dont have to hit the ball as hard as i did with my old cheap putter, i can maintain a better balenced swing with the method, well blades in general my 2 ball is horrible! so instantly i was getting better distance control and feel from the method, just hope it arrives in the morning so i can take it out for real!!

its interesting to see peoples wedge combinations . .i always used to carry 4 wedges (pw, gw, sw and lw) but now i have gone down to just the 3. Although i carry a 60 degree wedge i would much rather it was a 58 as i have stopped carrying a SW over the last two years and the gap from 52 to 60 is a little large. Sand can be a knightmare in some cases as all of my wedges have very little bounce on them

There is nothing in there that I don't like.  I used to carry 5W, but since I hit my 3 iron as far as 5W, I took that out and added 60* wedge.

See my signature. I thought I was set a few weeks ago when I tinkered with my set (replaced the AW with the 3i and the SW and 60* with Vokeys) and came thisclose to breaking 80 for the first time. Then I hit the range four straight days starting last Thursday and proceeded to embarrass myself each time. So, right now I hate pretty much everything longer than a 7i. I'll be happy if I can shoot 92 this weekend.

Cleveland Hi-Bore XLS tour driver - I hit it straight and long, I do like it a lot.  My nike ignite was better but I cracked the head.......

3wood 13degree mizuno forged - Never use it to be honest.  I am not confident with it and I hit my drives long enough on most courses I play to not need it on the par 5's.

2 iron Titleist DCI 762 2iron - best club in the bag.  I can shape it perfectly.   I use it on long par 5's and on dogleg par 4's.

Nike tour forged pro combo's 3-pw - great irons.  Had them for 8 years, I will use them until they are no good.

Cleveland CG15 56 and 60 degree wedges - love them.

Old ping o-blade putter - Its good but Ive tried new insert putters and might switch.

All in all I am pretty satisfied with my bag.  It works for me

Wedges~Warrior Custom Golf 52* GW and 56* SW

I can't wait to replace my irons. I'm gonna order the Nike Ignite 3's in the next couple days and get a set of Adams Watson wedges. Not real thrilled with my bag but I have a hard time forking the money out to put together a nice bag that I would be happy with. Slowly but surely I'll get there though. Hopefully by the start of next season I'll have my Driver, Irons, and Wedges replaced. If I feel like doing some extra spending I might try to get a 3 Wood to match and go along with my Driver and my bag will finally be complete...for now.

Irons: Wilson Di7 4-PW

Wedges: Wilson TW9 48* and 54* and Mizuno MP T-11 60*

Putter: Five Hole Putters One-Timer

For the most part, I love all of my clubs.  Theyre stupid easy to hit well and I love my putter because it looks like a combination of a putter and a hockey stick (it has the shaft of a hockey stick and the bottom 1/2 of it looks just like an Anser style putter).

If I were to make changes obviously Id go with a newer driver and new hybrid.  I like my Deep Red and I hit it well but Id probably hit better drives with a new driver.  Same with the hybrid, its a nice hybrid and it works well for me but its far from Wilson's newest design.

Driver: Adams 9064LS 9.5°, RIP Gamma stiff

Absolutely love it. Tested it on a demo day, where I realized, I needed fewer loft and stiffer shaft for my kind of swing.

As long as my swing is halfway decent, the perfect fairway finder, averaging 200-230yd carry.

3 Wood: Mizuno MX-700 15°, Exsar regular shaft

Hated my old beginner's set 3wood because I needed something consistent from the fairway.

Not sure, if I'm going to change the shaft to something stiffer, works great as it is at the moment.

Hybrid: Mizuno MX-700, 20°, Exsar regular shaft

Decided to switch from my 4-wedge to a 3-wedge system, since I needed a club for longer (200-210yd) Par3s and this club is it.

I mainly use it from the tee, less from the fairway, since 200-210yd approach shots seldom give enough reward for my, more often too much risk.

For transport shots I prefer the 3wood or 3iron (see below).

Irons 7-PW:

- Mizuno MP-33, Dynamic Gold R33

Got 3-PW for EUR 100,- at the bay and decided to use it for working on my swing. Since I didn't find much difference in forgiveness but quite a lot more consistency in distance to the Pi-5 (see below), I decided to build my own split-set.

Irons 3-6:

- Wilson Pi-5, Dynamic Gold R300

The Pi-5 was my first "real" set of clubs.

3iron is the go-to club from the tee on narrow holes, avrg. 190-200yd, on firm fairways I also got to 230 with roll. Also works for transport shots from the fairway.

4-6 iron are great for my swing.

After getting fitted for Dynalite Gold XP Stiff shafts some weeks ago, I'm going to change the shafts in all irons in the near future.

Wedges:

My old setup was

- MDGolf Players 52°

- Vokey 56°

- Mizuno MP-10 60°

which worked great on my homecourse (short par 29 9-hole course) but when playing regular courses I needed more length.

As written above I changed to a 3-wedge setup (including PW):

- Acer XB Satin, 54°, Apollo Standard Stepped shaft

My first completely self built club - how couldn't I like it, although it was mainly considered a test in clubmaking *G*

In fact, I decided to tip the shaft between regular and stiff, and this wedge feels the best of all the wedges I have, because of the shaft.

- Mizuno MP-10 60°, DG Wedge shaft

For all "flying" shots inside 75 yds, great spin, great feel. Thinking about changing the shaft to a stiffer flex.

Putter: Cleveland Classic #1, 35"

When hit solid, it gives an unbelieveable soft feeling. Tried some Scottys at a local shop, but didn't find any difference in feel.

I always strive for best price/performance ratio, so the choice was easy.

Removed the old grip and mounted a Karma Midsize grip for keeping my wrists under control :)

Ball: Wilson Px3Soft and Topflite Gamer V2

Sadly, the Px3Soft isn't made anymore, so I had to look for another cheaper ball with good performance and the Gamer V2 is it.

greetings

My signature shows all my gear.

The only thing I'm unsure of is my putter; still happy enough with it but I feel like I have to manipulate it during my stroke (backstroke is fine but I feel like I have to lift my front shoulder on the forward stroke and also rotate the club open a little to send it straight. I figure I may be better off trying some others.

My clubs are in my signature and I am completely satified with them.  I really have no desire to make any changes.  I am looking for a Scotty Cameron Sutdio Select 2.6 to add to my putter "collection".

That being said, if I hit the lottery this weekend, the first thing I will do, after I cash the check, is go to my local fitter and have a custom set of Miura irons bult.

Well I think the bag makeup is a personal choice based upon your game and courses you play.  There seems to be no way to have a makeup of 14 or less clubs where there isn't a "hole" in the yardages without hitting a soft X or hard Y.  But here is my selection and so far it seems the best suited for my personal skill and courses I play.  I suppose I should add the listed yardages are for my summer play at ~7000 feet ASL, they go down about 8-12% for my winter play @ ~1400 feet ASL.

Driver Cobra LD 9.5* stiff (245-260 yards)

fairway woods  Cobra  LD 3 & 5 stiff (210-245 yards)

hybrids Nickent 22* & 26* 3DX regular (175-200 yards)

Irons  Callaway  X22 steel regular [6-LW] (80 - 175 yards)

Putter  Taylormade Rosetta

This leaves me with a hole at 200+ yards as I either have to bust a 4 hybrid or lay off a 5 wood.  I have consider removing the 3 & 5 fairway woods and replacing them with a strong 4 wood (for driving on tight holes and long fairway shots) and a 18-19 degree hybrid to fill the 200+ gap.  But for now I just try to avoid that yardage with shot selection.  I also try to never put myself inside of 80 yards as this requires less than full shot and while I practice and can do that it isn't my favorite thing to do.

Butch

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
