There's been insinuation here that Joe Pa is as guilty as Sandusky on molesting the kids! So is he "as guilty, but guilty of another crime".. maybe, I'm not a lawyer. Is he nearly as culpable as Sandusky for the fact that this whole affair took place? Not even close. No Sandusky, no rape. No Joe Pa, still rape.

Only if you look at it as aggregating all of the rapes together.  Paterno speaks up and no rape for at least some of those kids.  Paterno's silence not only shielded Sandusky from the law, it allowed Sandusky to continue his use of the Penn State football program as bait in his trolling for victims.  And Paterno knew it, otherwise why would they at some point tell Sandusky to stop bringing kids on campus?  "OK, Jerry, we're not going to tell on you for what you are doing, just don't do it here any more."

But then again, what the hell do I know?

And like I have said quite a few times, JoePa failed terribly to do what is right, beyond the casual association to the fact. He was in a prime position and had prime reasons to take much better steps in stopping this thing than he took - which were none - and he didn't.

That still is not the same as actually raping the boys. That doesn't mean that Joe Pa is off the hook by any means, not by a long shot. Again, what Pa did was terrible, unacceptable. But his involvement ought to be kept in perspective.

Latest - just heard they are contemplating removing the JoPa statue from psu - I think that would be a huge mistake & sends the wrong message. I'm sure most here will disagree however ...

You want a statue to remain in honor of a man who's lack of action enabled Sandusky to molest and rape more innocent children?  The message leaving the statue up sends is that PSU condones his behavior and shows a total lack of sensitivity to the victims who could have avoided the mental trauma they must now suffer because JoePa chose to cover up his friends crimes.

He'd have been arrested and facing minimally conspiracy charges right now if he were still alive.  Criminals don't deserve statues, just my opinion.

You let me take all that heat on my own?!

Anyway, in that I do disagree. His career was legendary, but it is hard not to wonder if he decided not to blow the whistle in order to preserve his legendary career.

Take it down, IMO.

It doesn't matter how many games the man won for PSU or how good a guy he seemed.  He was a very bad person whom we should shun to make sure more people in the future don't act in the same manner.  PSU needs to suspend their football program or the NCAA will do it for them and the death penalty will be detrimental to the long term program.

The thing is JoePa was part of the sick mess and you want the university to separate itself from the sick mess so it might not be that bad of thing. The thing most people are failing to realize is the fact that Penn State needs shine as a solid academic university and forget about the football program. No matter what 50 ways you look at it the sick mess will over shadow the university until the university shows that it wants to move to a new era. I'm not saying they should disconnect from him totally but it's time to close the JoePa chapter and if taking down the statue will help JoePa worshippers understand than it needs to be done.

No, that is exactly the CORRECT message.

But then again, what the hell do I know?

By the reasons that PSU gave for taking the statue down, I bet it will be back up after a while.

Taking down the statue was just the least worst choice... this whole thing is just such a shame...

It's a good start.  Now they need to take his name off of anything on campus that is named for him.

That's not going to happen.  Paterno donated significant amounts of his personal money towards the library, etc.  If they remove his name the school would have to come up with the money for the library.  They already stated they weren't changing the name of the library.

I doubt it will be put back up. Unless we see a bombardment of evidence that the Freeh Report was wrong (which I doubt will happen since he was commissions by Penn State, and they have as much motivation to clear Paterno's name as anyone), I think to most people he's always going to be associated with Sandusky and the cover up.

You mean to say you doubt it will be put up again, no?

I have the feeling that Pa's career is more engrained in people's minds than this scandal will be. Think Michael Jackson.

Will be different if things get significantly worse for Joe Pa's story though - I don't expect that though.

Heard on news today NCAA decided that PSU would not receive the Death Penalty, but will be fined and potentially lose scholarship allotment.

sorry to disappoint - will never happen.   JoPa is far too ingrained in Penn State DNA for that to happen...

    • The MTB Prime and Prime X had issues with the cover being too soft and getting cut too easily. They said it was more prevalent in the Prime than the Prime X which I found odd because that was the exact opposite of my experience.
    • Day 120 - Played 18; much better than yesterday. Miss right now is off the heel of the club, so I need to sort that out.
    • Today we played Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth, NH. Course was in great shape but my game didn't show up. I will say I pitched and chipped fairly well but almost everything else was very hit or miss. Cost myself a lot hitting an in play drive with pulling my approach shots maybe 85% of the time. Finally figured out I had been swaying most of the round. Only took me until 13 to figure it out. Used what felt like a much more centered turn and the ballstriking improved. 18 tomorrow using a 2 man scramble format. Just looking to contribute. Been a blast though.
    • Day 22: Hit balls with 7-iron using mevo+ to track dispersion. Was out for a long time after work; 86 balls but the first 50+ were 50% swings focusing on top of backswing feel and then just hitting the ball as a psychic reward. Finished with 20 balls close to full speed. Pretty happy with dispersion and also no horrendous misses. I’m chunking my priority piece out into two separate feels, first and more important is the position/balance at top of backswing which is what I was working on. Once I have that engrained I’ll move to transition part.
    • FWIW I never really had issues with the previous generation of Snells. But… I'm not sure I played them a ton, either.
