So I am getting married on March 10th and my fiance asked me what I wanted as a wedding present that meet these certin criteria: 1) Would last forever 2) I coud pass it down to my future kids 3) I would probably never buy myself.

This got me thinking, and I have always had an eye for Scotty Camerons, but being $300+ I dont think I would ever buy myself one under normal conditions.

I think these putter could last forever and could be passed down to my future kids. So I told her I wanted a Scotty.

Now the California Series really caught my eye as I love the old school look of the honey dipped putter. However after reading some reviews on here and on other forums I have found that the honey dip may fade. This could really bother me. But I also read somewhere that the fading was happening with the first batch of honey dipped clubs and Titleist got a new oven and the problem is fixed.

Would SC replace/refinish my club for me if it faded in an unreasonable time? (I dont want to spend $300 and have the club fade by the end of this season) But I know in some years time it may fade.

Was what I read correct about the first batches being the bad ones? The salesman at my local Golfsmith said he has not heard of any honey dips fading. So maybe the problem is fixed?

Should I just not risk it and get a Studio Select model? (Which I also think is goregous)

Thank you so much!

It's supposed to fade and look distinctive. You may be able to trade or sell it and get a more durable finish like chrome, though.

Oh I see now, so the fading will actually give it that more "old school" look.

But by fading that doesnt mean it will come completely off though right?

Had a SC Studio Select, but loved the look of the honey dipped California series, so splurged and got one.  Started fading within a month, so I returned it and went back to my Studio.  I don't think the fading would affect the performance, just couldn't spend $300 for a putter that wouldn't look as good after a few months as day 1.

I think that the honey dipped has been an ongoing problem, and maybe more so than we realize, as the new California series have gone away from the honey dipped.  Get a new California series, they are gorgeous.

What would make you think that a SC putter would last any longer than any other putter?

It amazes me to think that people buy into the marketing hype and seem to believe that an OTR Cameron putter is something other than a good quality mass produced item. they sell these things by the thousand. It's hardly a rarity or something exotic.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Jeez, Shorty, would you stop being so logical? Everyone knows Scotty Cameron finds these things deep in the heart of the woods, encased in stone, from which only he can remove.

Sure, Scottys are pretty. I've owned about a dozen of them.

But if you want a putter that lasts forever and your putting stroke is consistent, and you want something that is fit to you and will roll where you aim it --  then get the real deal, not some marketing hype with cherry bombs in the cavity -- get an Edel fitting and get an Edel.  www.edelgolf.com

Purchased my Edel three years ago and haven't looked at another woman putter since...

if you like your scotty, i'd suggest as someone else mentioned the new series (non-honey)...it'll last as long as anything if you take care of it. Edel does make some quality putters tho...*starts getting green with envy* perhaps it'll go on my short list. either way, best of luck with the family heirloom...

In my Titleist 2014 9.5" Staff bag:

Just strip the honey dip finish with naval jelly, and you'll have a beautiful stainless steel Scotty Cameron putter.  Costs a couple of bucks, and takes 10 minutes.  Just my .02 cents.

    • Option one. Would like an ace even if it’s a worm burner. Have witnessed a couple of aces so would like to be on the other end.
    • OK - I think we should narrow down a weekend, and start there.  We're going to try to do this in June. I've created a Doodle poll where everyone can vote for the options that work for them.  Please include your username so I can track/post results. Doodle Doodle is the simplest way to schedule meetings with clients, colleagues, or friends. Find the best time for one-to-ones and team meetings with our user-friendly calendar tool. Get started today! (I only put in the Saturday dates, but assume the outing would include Friday - Sunday). Once we select a date that works for the most people, I'll start to line up courses and schedule and go from there.
    • Option #2 because I'd add the condition that it's in a tournament. Because that'd mean I'd break par in a tournament. And I already have a hole in one.
    • Hole in one is nice, but those low rounds stick in my memory better. I have two holes in one (and a third on a pitch and putt course which I count as a half). I've shot in the 60s three times in the last 10 years or so and I remember each one pretty well. I'd take the low round.
    • Would You Rather #68: Would you rather make a hole-in-one on a perfectly struck shot, during a round where you otherwise played pretty poorly.  or  Would you rather play well all day and beat your personal best by let's say 3 strokes, but with no eagles.    I'd take option 2.   Although option 1 is always exciting, and rewarding. playing well all day is very exciting because I can also do the opposite.
