Luke Donald has a solid iron game. Ball striking (or GIR) is not the right stat to look at. Look at approach shots from under 200 yards or at broadies shots gained paper. Donald gains strokes on the field with his irons and short game and then is a top 5 putter on tour. The game is pretty balanced. The long game (driving and approach shots) is slightly more valuable than the short game and putting but no one area is good enough (top 10 on tour) that you can dominate it and really suck (bottom 1/4)  at the any of the others.

The highlight of my Evlovr lessons was when my video was put up next to Robert's and it shows my hands/arms in my downswing being very similar to Robert's at the same time!

I copied a screen shot and saved it in my my swing thread!  I was very proud of that moment lol....

Robert Rock has the most steady head I have ever seen. It seems to never move until after the ball is gone.

Well, that is, of course, so we can admire his perfect hair. ;-)

After just seeing this I'm wondering if it's just me, but does he not get very much hip turn in his backswing with his driver?

Just watch his right hip pocket, it's moving all the way to 4. If you have Analyzr, upload it in there and go frame by frame.

He's turning his hips at least 45.

The "daylight" between the knees from dtl is a good checkpoint.

Can also see how much he's turned his torso in the caddy view, so a "full" hip turn helped him do that.

You are right.  After seeing the pictures he definitely gets enough hip turn.  I'm probably just comparing him to my swing and after seeing this I think I get too much hip turn.  His swing is visually perfect though.....

How has ole Rob Rock been playing this year? I watch the Euro tour in the am when drinking coffee and getting ready for work and haven't noticed him around.

I don't know. You could look it up of course.

    • My favourite club in my bag. Have it with a hzrds 6.0 shaft (probably the more important part) and I love it
    • I just ordered a Titleist TSR 2 #4 hybrid to replace my 3 driving iron.

    • Well, I have a 2 hybrid, 4 hybrid and then play 6 iron onwards.  My best clubs are probably the 4 hybrid and the PW.  What I find is that loft is your friend in general which is why my 4 hybrid is so much better than my 2 hybrid.  Definitely disproportionately more so than the 5 or so degrees of difference in loft.  If you have hybrids, play them.  And consider loft as your friend.  Invariably you will get up to a loft where anything less will not get you more distance because of your club head speed.  Essentially the faster you swing the less lofted a club you can hit effectively.  For me it is probably a 4 hybrid and maybe a 7 iron though I could improve both with practice
    • Off to my home state of Massachusetts this morning. 9 this afternoon,  18 tomorrow,  and 18 on Saturday. Hoping for some good scores but will be just happy playing with good friends.
