Annoying Golf Announcers

Some of the golfers he's ripped on air stopped talking to him for a while too which may have encouraged him to work on filtering some of his more insulting thoughts before they reach his mouth.

But yeah, that's my issue with Miller. Dude knows the game for sure, and further, I know the younger generation golfers don't really get him - 63 in the final round of the 1973 US Open is all you need to know

And that wasn't even his best year. He was one of several golfers who was better than Jack during Jack's prime. In 1974, Miller won 8 events and was Player of the Year. But as an announcer, a little of him goes a long way with me. I especially don't like the way he tries to predict everything, and then covers himself so he can't be wrong. "This is a crazy hard shot, it could easily skip over the green into the water. But he might just put it within a foot of the hole."

Perfect example: Bill Haas' shot with the ball halfway in the water and stops within a couple of feet of the hole. Miller says it won't get within 3 feet of the hole. Sticks it and ends up winning the tournament and the FedEx Cup.

One my of my pet peeves is when a player is faced with a tough shot. "This shot is impossible" "No way he can pull it off" "Best case, he will be 20 feet away" Then the player hits it to 6 feet. I got that the shot was hard, but they over-exaggerate some things too much. What, Bubba hit a 300 yard drive? You don't say... Don't even get me started on kukuya grass.

That is not true.

Miller is the one who said that it might end up not being as impossible as it looked.

Other threads misquote him as saying  it was easy, when he said that if you hit it right it will pop out.

This is what irritates me. People criticise commentators and say that they say things they haven't said.

Miller actually said "The odds are 1 in 5 to get inside 15 feet" .

I stand corrected. I don't recall him saying it was easy, but I thought he said something to the extent that it was almost impossible. Thanks for the clarification.

I love Feherty, goofier than banana crap.  I have one of his books, forget the actual name.  He tells an anecdote where he's covering a  match and gets the poops right in the middle of the broadcast.  He thought he made it to the locker rooms without anyone noticing.  The next day one of the pros hands him a bottle of Pepto.  Priceless.

Pat Summerall was incredible, both on the PGA and NFL.  I like Jim Nantz.  Nantz has that mellow voice, even keeled, but not monotone.  Lanny Wadkins made me want to shove pencils in my eyes he frustrated me so much.

My least favourite right there. The way he describes a shot is maddening and pathetic. Especially if the shot trickles into a hazard or just generally doesn't work like the player intended, he'll narrate every roll of the ball as if he's watching the Hindenburg go down. Get a grip man, it's just a golf shot.

He now has a "Flop Shot" that is impossible for anyone but Mickelson, and he was only 6 inches away from hitting a beautiful shot that would have backed up right against the pin.  Please -- NO MORE!

Johnny Miller is hands down THE worst! Nobody strokes themselves more than him...okay maybe Faldo and Pee Wee Herman. And he is constantly contradicting himself on air...and that's because he is always trying to cover up something dumb that he just said. Not to mention the way he talks down to some of these players...it is unbelievable...I am seriously surprised someone hasn't knocked his teeth out yet. I know he was good in his prime, but he also gave up because he couldn't compete anymore....he blames his demise on everything but himself...injuries, family life blah blah blah. And then he starts crying every time he has to talk about it. He's an ass! Used to be a huge Feherty fan, but that is changing with each commercial for his show that I see. I don't get it...is he Charlie Chaplin? And how many times can they set up him getting hit in the balls? I play a lot of sports and I don't think I have actually been hit in the jewels in like....well, I can't remember. Although now that I say that I am going to walk out my front door and a bird is going to randomly fly right into my nuts. Sorry...off topic.
