Right off the bat, two big names, #1 seed Luke Donald against #64 Ernie Els. For the teenage girls, Adam Scott vs Robert Rock. For a study in contrasts, long Dustin Johnson against short Jim Furyk. Two guys who have beaten Tiger when he had a 54-hole lead, Graeme McDowell vs YE Yang. A pair that can swear all they want after a bad shot without getting fined, Sergio Garcia vs Miguel Angel Jimenez. Emotional vs emotionless, Brandt Snedeker vs Retief Goosen. Fresh from their nightclub act, Bubba Watson vs Ben Crane. Major winners after the leader threw it away, Keegan Bradley vs Geoff Ogilvy. Another study in contrasts (Toms has actually won something), David Toms vs Ricky Fowler. Tiger gets Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano, who has been playing great recently, and might be very tough. Phil would probably be the favorite based on the last two weeks, but is ducking Tiger :-) so he skipped this week. Why do you say that?

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

I'm hoping that was a joke. I think Lefty showed last week that he's not intimidated by Tiger, and Tiger brings out the best in his game.  Phil is going on vacation.  He made that decision a couple months ago.

I'm going to be watching Sergio, he showed that he has it in him at the last round at Riviera, I want to see if he can follow up with another decent round.  Donald is putting great, which is what wins in match play, so he should be tough to beat.

Seriously what the heck happend to Lefty yesterday. We left to go to a 5 year old b-day party and i come home and he lost in a playoff. Last i looked he was two shots up with 5 to play?? Did he totally just fall apart??

You missed quite a bit then.  Phil and Bradley were both down by one shot to Haas coming to 18 and both shot birdie to force the 3 way play-off.  Phil hit a few stray shots which cost him the lead.

6 putts over two holes, the 14&15. Not enough holes left to recover after that.

Yours in earnest, Jason.

To get back on topic, if a player withdraws before Wednesday morning, Ryan Moore will assume the vacated seeding as the first alternate. That could turn out to be significant, since Moore was a quarterfinalist in the last year's Accenture Match Play.

No idea. If Lefty is ducking anyone, it's not the 20th ranked player in the world.

He did say he was going on a family trip, but it also could be his arthritis acting up. He did play 3 or 4 weeks straight already. And given this event is 5 days of competitive golf (despite the possibility of short rounds), he might need a little rest. I don't think he plays well at match play anyway, which also could be anothe reason to skip.

I dont know about you guys but it would be a really great matchup to see the tiger of old play Rory or Luke Donald for the win this weekend at matchplay. I do not know what it is but i am not a big fan of Rory, i always find myself rooting against him!

It would have been easy to understand if Phil was playing and Tiger wasn't and you said Tiger was avoiding Phil. As things stand, with Phil playing the way he is and handing Tiger a spanking last week, where is the joke?

I feel like Captain Kirk trying to explain a joke to Spock. I bet your friends all call you "Mr. Chuckles."

That was far funnier than the original joke! Making Tiger comments on this forum (or any golf forum it seems) is touchy stuff and you best have your defense properly laid out before making them!

    • Depends on the lie, pin location, green.  I would say most of my pitches are with my 60-degree.  Its probably like 90% 60-degree, 10% 56 degree.
    • Depends on my lie and the green I am working with. If I want to fly and stop, my 58* If I am looking for it to run a bit, my 54* And on occasion if the lie and green call for it, punch and run with my 7i
    • I did the RTJ trail, we just did Grand National and Capitol Hill. We were trying to minimize travel time. It gave us 5 courses to play. You pare playing 3 of the 5 we played.  If I had to pick, I would play the Lakes over the Links at Grand National. Links felt too penal on approach shots. If you can't get height or spin, it felt like every ball that hit the center of the green ran off the back. A lot of the greens require force carry, no running it up. It just wasn't that fun to play.   Judge - Really good course, some really cool holes and terrain.   Senator - Really fun open course. They call it link style, I can't remember how much you can play the ball down, but it has the aesthetic appeal.
    • I do that at the range; I just have been going through a half-assed pre-shot routine. 😇 I just kind of waltz up to the ball and hit it. I catch myself just going through the motions of aiming. Once I started aligning my club to an intermediate target, I felt like I was aligned way open to the target but just trusted it. Like, if the club was aimed at the flag in the middle of the green, then my body was aligned left of the green or more (assuming something like a 100+ yard shot). I think I was more concerned with where my feet were lined up and not the clubface.  A question on alignment then.  So, the ball is like what, 3-FT away from the toe target line. So, does that mean if my toe line is aimed at the flag, the club is aimed 3-ft right? Does the perception of the green looking smaller in the distance impact that in terms of how we hit the shot? I feel like the geometry should work that the ball is actually aimed 3-FT right.
