Im just getting back into golf after a little bit of a layoff with a new set of clubs.  Ive been hitting a fade forever.  I want to learn how to hit a draw with my irons Ive got it figured out with my driver and I can do it on the range some of the time but on the course I cant seem to get it down. Would love some tips thanks

Welcome to the forum. That thread has some good information, as do the other instruction threads. Hitting a draw requires an inside out swing path, and getting your hands deep on the backswing can help promote that.

Thanks for the help but what do you mean about getting your hands deep on the backswing?

i have the same problem, sometimes i aim left to compensate, but hell sometimes it goes straight. even with a strong grip, i end up with an open face at impact. not sure why....maybe arms are left behind my torso on the downswing

Check your left wrist. I assume your right hander. Your left wrist should be flat along to your arm. Cupped left wrist at the top of the backswing results in open clubface at impact.

I've had this problem for years, until a pro found it on video for me. My swing thought is weird, I have to almost twist the club with my right hand, to the left on my backswing.

Look at the back inside quarter of the ball through the whole swing and hit the ball there.  It will draw every time, but be happy with the fade.  Draws become hooks when timing gets off, and hooks turn in to a different hobby!

Thanks for help I want to hit a draw because I hit one with my driver and I seem to aim better with that ball shape.  When I hit a fade I dont have a good feel on where to aim at address. With my driver when I hit a draw I seem to be able to set up my aim very easily.  I dont want a hook but just a little baby draw :)

If you are right handed try closing your stance a bit by either moving your left foot forward about 2 inches perpendicular to the target line or by moving your right foot back a similar amount. It seems too easy but when I do this it changes my shoulder alignment enough to promote an inside to out swing path and a slight draw without having to introduce new swing thoughts or club face positions.

Do you know the new ball flight laws?  If so, the principle of how to hit a draw is pretty basic.

Welcome to the forum! There are various things that can prevent you from hitting a draw. My best advice is to record your swing on a camera and post it in a thread you create here. Working on your swing based on how it looks today makes things a whole lot easier. I used Evolvr to work on my swing. After years of slicing, I got rid of the out-to-in swing path very quickly. I've worked on a lot of things since, but the slice has never come back. It did resurface the first round this season, but after 3-4 months layoff, that can happen. A few sessions on the range got rid of it.

Welcome to the forum.  As the posters have said above, understanding why the ball draws is the first step.  Read the following for a better understanding:

http://thesandtrap.com/b/playing_tips/ball_flight_laws

Secondly, the how to part comes from understanding how you are swinging now then modifying to get the ball flight you want.  As Zeph stated, filming your swing is the best approach.  There are a number of very good instructors on this forum that will help you.

If you want to keep it more private, then I also recommend Evolvr.

Thanks for the mention.

Without seeing your swing and to help you get the path far enough to the right, I'd make sure the club face is aimed a little right of the target, then align your body further to the right.  Also get the hands forward at address and the weight 50/50.

A couple members have mentioned taking a look at the ball flight laws link, please do, because we hear on TV all the time to turn the face over to hit a draw.  Important to know that club face rotation has nothing to do with curving a golf ball, the face is a tool of projection and the ball curves in the opposite direction of the path.

What I think this guy ↑↑↑ is saying is, Start the ball right (in to out path) and if the face is closed at impact the ball will curve back to the left.

    • Day 49 - 2024-11-18 Light day of HackMotion work in the basement with my putting. Suffice to say my feels very closely align with what is measured.
    • Day 200 (18 Nov 24) - Broke out the MacGregor blades to do some “vintage” club pitches and chips.  Focus was on alignment and where I am looking in relation to the ball…have been working on finding a focal point about 3-6 inches ahead of the ball (toward the target) and not staring at the ball.  Getting very predictable strikes.  Overall it was a fun drill session and will serve as a warmup to tomorrow’s planned front 9 walk with these irons and persimmon woods and of course a “new” putter - a Acushnet Bullseye…
    • TV ratings  continue to drop. Stop the endless wiggles and waggles.
    • I believe that losing a tour card is too extreme but definitely agree that more needs to be done to prevent slow play.
    • Its way past time both tours  have  major  penalties for  slow  play. I  hate  it when they say" This group is  on the  clock". Big damn deal. Issue  penalties. Maybe Hull is a  bit too harsh but  its time a slew  of  2 stroke  penalties start  being  issued.     Charley Hull is fed up with slow play on the LPGA, so she offered a ‘ruthless’ solution “I’m quite ruthless, but I said, ‘Listen, if you get three bad timings, every time it’s a tee shot penalty; if you have three of them, you lose your Tour card instantly.’ I’m sure that would hurry a lot of people up, and they won’t want to lose their Tour card. That would kill the slow play, but they would never do that.” Who knows if that will work. But if it does not, maybe the PGA Tour should adopt Hull’s idea. The LPGA should, too, or at least assess penalty strokes for slow play. Five-hour rounds for a final group on Sunday is unacceptable and a quick way to lose interest and engagement from fans.
